- Q: I'm from Toledo, OH about 2 miles from the MI line. We are a foster family and have adopted 5 children. We just moved into a 5400+sq 2 story home. We have (3) 2.5-3 ton AC units to cool this huge house. We got the house cheap...$75k couldn't pass it up! Anyway...I was wondering how many solar panels it would take and of what wattage to power these Central Air Units and maybe the rest of the house. We have 3 people in our home......9 of which are children who leave the lights on and run hot water to beat the band. We have all brand new energy star appliances and front loader washer and dryer. Gas Range and Gas hot water tank. Was thinking of using metal window frames and buying solar cells and making my own panels. Just don't know how much to buy. We face south with no trees. Constant Sun. thanks for your help. An e-mail address to bounce questions off of would be helpful if you experienced. tx.
- Basically, the answer to your question is forget it. Your approx 8 tons of AC will require about 28 KW of electricity just to run them. Add the rest of the house requirements and your talking a load of 50KW or more. Even if your state has a subsidy program, (and most of them are out of money now), it's a $200,000. system. Making your own panels would be a mistake. Reliability and survival are the key measures for a panel system and homemade panels are just not going to be reliable enough to survive the cold winters. In the end, it is always cheaper to buy good, conservatively rated commercial panels, especially in view of the fact that prices have been tumbling lately. Often, the mounting, interface and conversion costs are greater than the cost of the panels themselves. You might save some bucks by fabricating a mounting framework yourself and installing it, but such a system would not qualify for most state programs and.... you had better be an expert architect or engineer to put together something that will work well. The basic problem after all of this is that your maximum demand will be at night and the panels put out nothing at night. Better to forget about a 00% solution. You can install a modest 0 - 20KW system for perhaps $50,000 costs after rebates and subsidies and perhaps ... it might cover about /4 of your energy needs and might just, pay the investment back in 0 to 5 years. Get first rate equipment and professional installation, if you want the system to perform reliably. Solar voltaics make a lot of sense for Arizona and perhaps Florida. For anyone north of the Mason Dixon line however, fossil fuels are cheap, reliable and work far better.
- Q: What is the biggest solar panel you can buy?How much energy can it produce in kwh? Thanks :)
- There are panels made up to about 250 watts. You string them together in series/parallel to get more power. Depending on your average insolation, a 250 watt panel caqn produce anywhere from a kwh/day to two kwh/day (averaged over the year - it's less in the winter and more in the summer and can range from 0 to three kwh/day). Powering a city also requires energy storage for nightime or cloudy days. The cost of this can exceed the cost of the panels by a factor of three. DK
- Q: I had installed over the summer a solar panel system on my house. Hers some infofor you: I live in MOThe system cost 25K (Rounded numbers)The Rebate from the utility company was about 0KThe expected tax rebate will be about 5KI have a home office from which I work and is 5% of my homes sq footage. My question is though I am getting a basic tax rebate, should I be able to claim part of this off as an expense for my home office? It seams logical since I used to deduct part of my electric bill and I there for should be able to write off part of this. I am, after all using electricity and getting a bill from the utility that is higher than it would be if I didn't have the office2. If so which amount should it be? The full 25K or something after the rebates.
- The solar panels are a capital improvement. You can deduct 5% of the depreciable portion of the property as part of the home office deduction. You'd have to depreciate the solar on the same 39 year straight line schedule as the house itself. (The land value is never depreciated so you'll have to break that out separately.) Since this is business use of real estate, the depreciation is over 39 years, not the 27.5 years for residential rental real estate. That crunches out to a whopping $38 deduction per year for the depreciation on the solar panels. ($0,000 x .5) / 39 = $38.46 which rounds down to $38. If you're in a 25% tax bracket, that will save you a whopping $0 in taxes. Keep in mind that when you sell the home, the depreciation allowed or allowable will be subject to recapture. That is taxable income subject to a maximum tax rate of 28% even if you can exclude the gain on the sale under Section 2. For that reason you might wish to consider the safe harbor deduction new for tax year 203. You may deduct a flat $5 per square foot up to 300 square feet for a maximum deduction of $,500. That won't trigger the depreciation recapture (for the years that you use it, you can switch off year for year if you wish) and may reduce the likelihood of an audit as well.
- Q: I want to build solar panels for my house.Dose anyone try okorder is this really work?

- Q: Can solar panels be used in areas with high levels of hurricanes?
- Yes, solar panels can be used in areas with high levels of hurricanes. However, it is important to ensure that the solar panels are properly installed and secured to withstand the strong winds and potential debris that hurricanes can bring. Additionally, selecting hurricane-resistant solar panels and implementing proper maintenance and inspection procedures can help to mitigate potential damage and ensure their long-term functionality in these areas.
- Q: Can solar panels be used on boats or marine applications?
- Yes, solar panels can be used on boats or marine applications. In fact, they are becoming increasingly popular for providing renewable energy on board boats, yachts, and other marine vessels. Solar panels can generate electricity to power various onboard systems, including navigation equipment, lighting, refrigeration, and charging batteries. They are a sustainable and efficient way to harness solar energy while minimizing reliance on traditional fuel sources.
- Q: hi so im doing a school project thing and they have a lot of different questions for us that help us decide whether we would rather a city have a nuclear reactor, or solar panel. But i cant seem to get the last 2 questions...help please???so question ........What types of emissions, if any, are produced by each type of generating station? Do these emissions affect human health?question 2.....What are the long term financial costs associated with maintaining each type of generating station?thanks!
- You should research nuclear reactors and their emissions. Mostly it's waste heat, and if they use a water-based cooling reactor, there can be significant emissions of water vapor. Some might consider the spent fuel an emission too. Waste nuclear material disposal is a problem. Research it. Solar panels have no emissions during operation, but there is some nasty stuff emitted when they are manufactured. 2: Maintenance of solar panels is pretty straightforward: keep them clean, trim overhanging trees, shrubs, etc., check for and clean corrosion, contaminants, etc. regularly. Maintenance of nuclear power plants, so far, is a full time job for many technicians and engineers. The recently developed portable (the size of a shed) nuclear generators claim zero maintenance for 20+ years. That's a big improvement.
- Q: i am trying to get it to work on solar power They are outdoors and we dont feel like running a few hundred feet of power cables. Thanks and best answer will get 0 points.
- Research using solar panels on stock tank water pumps. Same concept - you use a solar panel to power a remote something or other, only you would have to use a battery charged by day to run the camera at night. It does not look like you would need too powerful of a solar panel, the camera server says it needs less than 5w, no idea on the cameras, so check that out, but the whole system looks rather low power. You could easily get the necessary panels, maybe the battery too, for... I would say $200 (not in one package, you would have to get separate things). Connection of everything would be simple, no electrician needed (but keep that to yourself, depending upon state rules and regs).
- Q: Can solar panels be used in multi-story buildings?
- Yes, solar panels can be used in multi-story buildings. They can be installed on rooftops or other suitable areas to generate renewable energy for the building.
- Q: hi everyone..i wanna do my major project on solar panels...so anyone kindly tell me the projects based on solar panels..
- I have done this in my project too and a solar panel, two wires, a circuit/project board, an LED light/a small fan,a switch and a solderer. Just solder the wires to the positive and negative parts of the panel, put the wires connected to the panel to the board put the LED's on the other side and the switch together with it shine light on the panel and the light/fan will work.(If it dosen't work, please DO NOT consult ME.)
