- If you go to that site, and check the classified ads, there are people with excellent wood for sale that is safe for your chin. One lady has apple wood that is fantastic and Pet Products By Nature has pretty much any other kind of wood you can think of. Pecan is a huge favorite here because it has thick bark and lots of chewing. If you want this for a hidey house, a PVC tube covered with fleece will last longer, is washable, and is a lot better investment. You can hang it with chains or drill holes in it and insert screws and washers to hold it in place. You can also see those on CnH with examples to look at if you want to build your own. There are very, very few things that I recommend for chins from pet stores. Two types of feed (Mazuri and Oxbow), one type of hay (Mazuri), and pine, aspen, or Carefresh Ultra. That's about it. - Can't imagine a problem with code compliance. PEX (plastic extruded tubing) has been used in northern Europe for decades, because it won't split when water freezes inside it -- it just swells up like a sausage, then reverts to it's original shape when thawed. The stuff is made from the same material as trash bags, and it will outlast cockroaches. It won't interact chemically with water or with impurities which might be in the water, it steals less heat from the water than does copper, so the wait for hot water is shorter, and it doesn't transmit sound as readily as copper. Only caveat is to be careful to use quality fittings -- the few problems I've ever heard of with PEX all had to do with inferior or poorly installed elbows, tee fittings, etc. I've used it exclusively for 8 years (well over 100 custom homes) and never had a single problem.

- Im pretty certain the tiny fibers that you are talking about are indeed pieces of fiber optic cable. I have seen these before and am fairly certain of this. I am not sure where you can get it cheap.
