- Q: I'm writing a post-apocalyptic story in it the main character finds a warehouse. Eventually he finds out the roof is covered with commercial solar panels. Given it's been over a year since the majority of the world died no manainence was done, do they still work?
- In my experience working with solar panels, I've found that the panels themselves are robust and can last years. How that energy is transferred from the panel to perform work (sorry for the boffinism) is where the complexity emerges, namely due to the fact solar panels produce DC current, and nearly all of our electrical appliances use AC current. In most cases, solar panels will either send energy through a DC/AC inverter directly to be used for appliances, or stored in deep cycle batteries, then converted to AC using an inverter when the user wants to use his/her appliance. Now to answer your question: the solar panels will be fine, and could conceivably be in fine working order with AC current available IF... and I cannot stress this enough (namely through years of field experience dealing with solar powered scientific instrumentation that was working well and then mysteriously not working)... IF rats and other rodents haven't eaten through the wires. This is probably the most likely reason that a set of solar panels wouldn't be working in your given scenario. Hope this helps, and good luck!!
- Q: Which is more efficient at producing energy? Reference(s) would be nice, but not required.
- Depends on the planet and solar panel. Generally, solar panels are more efficient according to these figures I bumped into. Photosynthetic efficiencies range from 0.% - 8%!
- Q: Can cold light make solar panels power
- light - heat - dynamic - electric conversion method through the use of solar radiation generated by thermal power, usually by the solar collector will absorb the heat energy into the refrigerant, and then drive the turbine power generation. The latter process is the light-heat transfer process; the latter process is the heat-to-conversion process, which is the same as the conventional thermal power generation.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on government buildings?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on government buildings. In fact, many governments around the world are actively promoting the adoption of renewable energy sources, including solar power, in their buildings to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainability. Installing solar panels on government buildings not only helps in reducing energy costs but also sets an example for the public and encourages wider adoption of renewable energy.
- Q: Are solar panels worth the investment?
- Yes, solar panels are worth the investment. They have numerous long-term benefits such as significant energy savings, reduction in electricity bills, and a positive environmental impact by reducing carbon emissions. Additionally, many governments offer incentives and tax credits for installing solar panels, further enhancing the return on investment.
- Q: I want to get a solar panel to run a fan (or two) for swamp coolers.I'm not looking to power 20box fans, just maybe some of those auto fans. What the heck kind of panel do I need? What is a power inverter and what does it do?Will I lose all my power if I use a 00' extension cord? How do I choose what I'm going to need?
- Solar panels turn sunlight into direct current electricity usually at 2, 24, or 36v. You could probably have a very simple system with just a panel and a few dc fans assuming that: the panels never put out more power than the fans can handle, you don't mind the fans slowing and stopping when the sunlight fades. If you want the fans running more of the time, you will need the panel hooked to a charger that charges a car/marine type battery and the fans connected to the battery. The longer the wires, the thicker they need to be (and more expensive). If you want to use AC (alternating current like your house uses) you will need an inverter (which turns DC into AC). Each device and each section of wire loses power due to inefficiency (heat produced). Contact a solar company on line, in person, or learn more.
- Q: How long does it take to recoup the cost of solar panels through energy savings?
- The time it takes to recoup the cost of solar panels through energy savings varies depending on factors such as the cost of the panels, the amount of sunlight in the area, the energy consumption of the household, and available government incentives. On average, it can take anywhere between 5 to 20 years to recoup the initial investment. However, with technological advancements and decreasing costs of solar panels, this payback period is steadily decreasing, making solar energy an increasingly attractive and financially viable option for many homeowners.
- Q: Can solar panels be used for camping or outdoor activities?
- Yes, solar panels can be used for camping or outdoor activities. They are portable and can provide a sustainable source of energy to power various devices such as phones, lights, and even small appliances. Solar panels are lightweight, easy to set up, and can harness sunlight to charge batteries or directly power devices, making them an ideal solution for off-grid adventures.
- Q: . Do they scratch easily? How do I remove snow from them without scratching them?2. What does the upkeep of many solar panels consist of? I want to have my electricity completely off of the grid.3. Are all solar panels made from the same material, regardless of size?
- . Do they scratch easily? No How do I remove snow from them without scratching them? Just wipe the snow off 2. What does the upkeep of many solar panels consist of? Clean them with tap water and paper towels once a month. 3. Are all solar panels made from the same material, regardless of size? Basically the same.
- Q: China is the world's biggest producer of solar panels
- China is also the world leader in using solar panels. Most solar panels in the US are not from China. There are several companies here in the US that make solar panels, and many states do increase the tax rebate for buying local products. Most flat plate water heating panels installed in the USA are made in the USA. Wouldn't it be nice to get people to buy more sustainable energy products and increase manufacturing jobs in the US, while actually improving the air quality and reducing our dependence on foreign oil? Oh, and perhaps we could get the money by cutting the amount of taxpayer funds subsidizing the oil and coal industries?
