Q: I know that one LED can't power a solar panel. I have found 40 kmcd LED's on OKorder. I know that several of them (28 totale each one with a 470 ohm resistor all at 2 VDC) can show a reflection on a wall in daylight 60 feet away..

Q: Can solar panels be installed on a metal roof?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on a metal roof. In fact, metal roofs are often considered ideal for solar panel installations due to their durability, longevity, and compatibility with the mounting systems. Metal roofs provide a stable and secure foundation for solar panels, ensuring optimal performance and longevity of the system.
Q: Are there any noise concerns with solar panels?
No, there are no noise concerns with solar panels. Solar panels produce electricity by converting sunlight into energy and do not generate any noise during their operation.
Q: Can solar panels be used off-grid?
Yes, solar panels can be used off-grid. Off-grid solar panels generate electricity from the sun and store it in batteries, allowing them to provide power in remote or isolated locations without relying on a traditional electrical grid.
Q: Can solar panels be used to heat water?
Yes, solar panels can be used to heat water. Solar water heating systems use the sun's energy to heat water, typically through the use of solar thermal collectors. These collectors absorb sunlight and transfer the heat to water, which can then be used for various purposes such as bathing, washing, or even space heating.
Q: What is the impact of roof material on solar panels' performance?
The choice of roof material can have a significant impact on the performance of solar panels. Certain materials, such as metal or asphalt shingles, are more conducive to efficient solar panel installation and operation. These materials provide a stable and sturdy base for mounting the panels, ensuring proper alignment and minimizing the risk of damage. Additionally, the reflectivity and heat absorption properties of the roof material can affect the overall efficiency of solar panels. Light-colored or reflective roofs can help reduce heat absorption, keeping the panels cooler and improving their performance. On the other hand, darker or less reflective roofs may lead to increased heat buildup, potentially reducing the efficiency of the panels. Ultimately, selecting a suitable roof material is crucial in maximizing the effectiveness of solar panels and optimizing their energy generation capabilities.
Q: If you want to instal solar panels...how often do you have to replace them?
Expect a water heating panel to last about the same as a water heater, 0 to 5 years. Actually, my brother's system is coming up on 5 years, and is not giving trouble yet, so maybe technology has advanced. I have actually never personally known of anyone replacing a solar electric panel due to wear-out. I have heard of occasional replacements due to accidents, including natural disasters like lightning strikes. And one brand of panels had manufacturing defects around the year 2000, but that manufacturer owned up and replaced those free of charge to their customers. A standard warranty on a solar electric panel nowadays is 25 years.
Q: I would like to know how do you build a solar panel?
There are several types of solar panels. If you mean photovoltaic panels for generating electricity, that is a really advanced project that few amateurs are equipped to do. In the long run, it will be a lot cheaper and easier to buy factory made PV panels. You can try building one by sandwiching an array of photovoltaic cells between a sheet of glass or plexiglass and a sheet of aluminum. Remember that this assembly must be able to withstand great heat, and it must be sealed to make absolutely sure it does not leak. So basically, you need to lay out the PV cells and wire them together to get the desired voltage and current, with some arrangement to allow the wires to extend outside without leaking. Then you enclose the panel around all four edges with aluminum channel and seal with silicone sealer. Lay it on thick and test thoroughly with water hoses to eliminate all leaks. As mentioned, it's easier and cheaper to buy them factory made. If you mean a heat collector for a solar house heating system or hot water system, that is just a matter of building a thin, flat aluminum box with a glass lid. For hot air, you just need to circulate the air through the box when the sun is shining. For water, you need to have some arrangement to pass the water through the compartment in thin walled metal tubing. You won't be surprised when I say it's cheaper to buy one factory made. Good luck.
Q: Can solar panels be used in areas with high levels of snowfall?
Yes, solar panels can still be used in areas with high levels of snowfall. While snow accumulation on the panels can temporarily reduce their efficiency, modern solar panel designs and technologies have improved to withstand heavy snow loads. Additionally, the angle at which solar panels are installed and their smooth surface can help snow easily slide off, allowing them to continue generating electricity even in snowy conditions.
Q: Can solar panels reduce electricity bills?
Yes, solar panels can reduce electricity bills. By harnessing solar energy to generate electricity, homeowners can offset a portion or even all of their electricity consumption from the grid, leading to lower electricity bills.
