- Q: My house is aligned exactly North-South, so I have no roof facing South. Is it worth installing solar panels? Are there any good options for dealing with this situation?
- The trouble is that it is so expensive to have installed and as you say it will take many years before you actually start saving above what the installation cost was, I personally would not go ahead and make that sort of investment, it would be more profitable to keep the money in a building society, get the interest from it and use that to pay for your electricity but the main thing that I have against solar Panels is that unless you stay in that house for at least twenty five years you will not reach the point where you are saving and to capitalise on it you would have to stay there for many years more, so you will not have the option of moving house without losing your investment and at the moment having solar panels does not increase the value of the property, it is just a good selling point, when you buy your new house, you would probably have to start all over again and then because of the years will never live long enough to reap any benefit from it.
- Q: I don't know anything about where to buy solar panels. I just want to save on the electric bills.
- First and foremost, you are talking about photovoltaic panels. These harness solar energy and convert it to electricity. The downside to these is that they are expensive, although you will see a huge return on your electric bill in usually 5-7 years. The photovoltaic panels produce DC electricity, so if you want to power your home appliances you will need an inverter that takes DC electricity and converts it to AC (since almost all home appliances run off of AC). You will also need a battery and an optional but very useful charge controller. The battery stores electricity that is generated from the sun to be used on cloudy days. The charge controller is the brains of the operation and deciphers how much electricity should go to the appliance(s) or the battery.
- Q: Are there any health risks associated with solar panels?
- There are no direct health risks associated with solar panels. However, improper installation or maintenance may pose electrical hazards, and exposure to high temperatures or falling from heights during installation can lead to accidents. Additionally, some solar panels contain small amounts of hazardous materials, but they are tightly sealed and the risk of exposure is minimal. Overall, when installed and maintained correctly, solar panels are safe and have numerous environmental and health benefits.
- Q: I have seen DIY software which explains everything for novices. Specifically, how to build your own solar panels and tie them into your home electrical system for about $00 in parts.Has anyone tried doing this? Was it easy?
- I used this youtube video to help me build a 2 volt system. I used this video to build a magnet motor attached to a car alternator, I used an old Ford alternator because they are cheap, then put in the voltage reguialtor that I took out of the same car. I then hooked that up to 6 2 volt batteries in series, then I used 4 500 watt inverters, I got it going about 2 weeks ago, I am waiting to how efficient it will make everything, I also do not have my entire house on it. So far I have hooked up my fridge, deep freeze, 52 plasma tv, and washer. I have not hooked anything else into it yet. I have no idea if it has enough power to turn on full load, like I said I am still toying with it, but it seems to be doing fine.
- Q: Also, where can solar panels be purchased in the Binghamton/Liberty/Jeffersonville area? Home Depot has some on their website I would like to see them in a store before purchasing or ordering them.
- Enacted okorder Hope that you find the above enclosed information useful. 09/9/20
- Q: I jotted down some notes for my Technology and Architecture class and I'm trying to figure out what i meant when i said 'Treated with gases at extremely high temperatures.' I have NO idea what I was talking about :) Im trying to figure out if what I am talking about is about Silicon, Polychristaline, or a Solar Cell/Panel.
- Some steps in making semiconductors use gases at very high temps, and solar cells might.
- Q: i need to make a solar panel model for a project in science and i would like to know how to build a easy model at home that wont cost alot
- There are different types of solar panels. Photovoltaic for electricity, and thermal for heating water, and passive for heating air. So it would help if you would say what type you are going to build. Theere are a lot of videos on you tube on how to make solar panels. use the link below.
- Q: right now, you would need a suitable number of solar panels just to power house that can take up a lot of real estate. so my question is, is it feasible to create something that absorbs more of the suns energy like a magnet it would suck it up. the point of doing this would be so that we wouldnt need so much space so many panels just to power home for example.i hope thats coherent.
- No, it's not possible to make solar panels that suck in photons like a magnet. In current physics, the only way to do that would be to make a near-black-hole-like structure that sucks photons in due to its high gravity. Not only would that be prohibitively expensive and currently technologically impossible, it would destroy its surrounding area. Edit: idlenesss - My whole point is that increasing the photons-per-area is currently impossible, and that's what the question was about.
- Q: Can solar panels be used in areas with high levels of noise from transportation?
- Yes, solar panels can be used in areas with high levels of noise from transportation. Noise pollution does not affect the functionality of solar panels as they primarily rely on sunlight to generate electricity. However, it's important to ensure that the panels are properly installed and maintained to maximize their efficiency and minimize any potential disruptions caused by noise pollution.
- Q: Can solar panels work during cloudy or rainy days?
- Yes, solar panels can still generate electricity during cloudy or rainy days, although their efficiency may be reduced. While direct sunlight is optimal for maximum power output, solar panels can still capture diffuse sunlight and convert it into usable energy.
