- Q: So right after the curved pipe that comes out of the muffler a piece of pipe, probably a little over a foot long rust off. The pipe itself wasn't that rusted just the ends of the piece that broke off. The front of the exhaust pipe is still secure and the curved section attached to the muffler seems secure as well. My father is good at fixing cars and is going to replace this section with another piece of pipe and fittings/clamps etc. Does this sound like an okay fix?

- Are you familiar with any type of soldering? There is low temp, and high temp, depending on the application, and the type of solder that you use. The most important thing to remember, is to thoroughly clean the inside of the fittings, and the end of the pipe. If you cut a pipe, make sure that you ream the inside, to restore the inner diameter of the pipe to its full bore dimension, otherwise, water will eat the pipes, from the inside, and you will have a premature breakdown in your piping system. A non acid, water soluble flux is required, again, so your pipes won't deteriorate from the inside. Low temp soldering can use a propane torch, but high temp, requires a hotter flame, to melt the solder. Practice on some pipes, before soldering for real. Never leave your flame in one spot too long. Doing so will cause the flux to be burned at that spot, and no solder will take at that spot, thus, ensuring a leak. Move your flame around the whole joint, heating it up uniformly, and concentrate your flame towards the center of the fitting, as solder will travel towards the heat. Good luck!

Inside you'll see a kind of plastic cup arrangement intended to keep small quantities of liquids off the electronics. If you didn't spill too much, they may have worked. Try cleaning the plastic and the inside of the key cap with a Q-tip moistened SLIGHTLY with rubbing alcohol (I think it's non-conductive). When it dries, carefully push the keycap back on. - I have a suggestion but first let me shoot down some of the other idea's with the fact that in cold weather you ALWAYS need access to pipes and fittings. Heat tape-no, the electrical in heat tape goes bad and you will have no easy way to repair. Crawlspace- even if heated, you said there will be no access Ceiling running down- no, there is no heat in the ceiling and the lines would need to be exposed in the bathroom. Cold air return-maybe but again, no access I'm assuming this schoolhouse has a basement, most do, and your best option would be to build a secondary partition wall on the same wall as the addition to hide the plumbing and run it into from the basement. Essentially just poking through the now exterior wall and the new addition wall from inside the new fake exterior wall . It sounds like you need a H C for the washer, a H C for a vanity sink and a C for the toilet? Obviously the best thing would be to make as few penetrations as possible so use 3/4 copper for the sink, run flex hose or tubing for toilet and run two exposed lines from the vanity THROUGH(vanity) the side onto the wall(exposed) for the washer. I'm kind of guessing here as I'm not able to see the layout. If you're willing to make 4 penetrationsgo for it. The toilet only needs to be hose or tubing, make sure you put a separate valve in for it. The drains shouldn't matter, they are drains. As long as the traps are in a warm area and the lines are pitched well. Old houses suck.
