- If your main water pipe is hot, its very possible that you are facing cavitation. Cavitation means that cavities or bubbles are forming in the liquid that we're pumping. These cavities form at the low pressure or suction side of the pump, causing several things to happen all at once: 1) The cavities or bubbles will collapse when they pass into the higher regions of pressure, causing noise, vibration, and damage to many of the components. 2) We experience a loss in capacity. 3) The pump can no longer build the same head (pressure) 4) The pump's efficiency drops 5) General warmth of the pipe on the suction side. I would take a moment and check the impellor on your pump. If it looks like its chewed up, its a definite sign of cavitation. Cavitation can be caused from a variety of situations. Some of them include: - The system was designed incorrectly. There are too many fittings and/or the piping is too small in diameter. - Solids have built up on the inside of the pipe. - A suction strainer is clogged. - Be sure the tank vent is open and not obstructed. Vents can freeze in cold weather - Maybe a check valve is broken and the seat is stuck in the pipe. - The inside of the pipe, or a fitting has corroded. - A bigger pump has been installed and the existing system has too much loss for the increased capacity. - A globe valve was used to replace a gate valve. - The pump speed has increased.

- Go talk to your local hardware store. They are alot more helpful than the big guys. You should think twice before chaning out the copper. The copper is stronger cleaner than PVC.

The small lift pumps that come with the package systems put a very strong torque on the pipe when they turn on. This torque WILL break fittings. I also never use the rubber fernco style check valves that come with the pumps. The pressure rated glue joint type are the only way to go. Pump 30 gals of sewage into someones basement sometime. Then have them call me. I will do a proper installation. Don't quit your day job. ENJOY GUYS.

- it is usually the hot line that rots through.are the pipes about 40+ years old? you could try turning off the valve at the water heater when you are not using it.so you still will have toilet and running water.if they are old pipes you could be fixing leak after leak. it would be cheaper to get all the hot lines replaced at once.

- galvanized pipe means just that it is coated with galvanize to help keep it from rusting. blk pipe has no coating inside and a blk finish outside, normally used for natural gas piping installations. wall thickness is either schedule 40, or 80. 40 is the standard 80 is a much thicker wall used for high pressure applications. the 1inch pipe and the 1inch nipples are the same wall thickness. the threads on both all taper inwards. by drilling a hole in galvanized pipe you will expose the inside wall of the hole to water,gas,oil, or what ever you are using the piping syatem for. therefore you are defeating the porpous of the galvanizd coating. hope this helped

- crimp much holes tighter, all-ways brass fittings , cinch or crimp on a plastic fitting may cause failure or cracks.not seen until a leak or flooding. I've and done the freeze test on pex with a 2'ft. piece with plugs in the ends, both cinch crimp, plastic fitting brass/ both pex piping swell, but the plastic gave out. use pipe insulation with 3/4 wall like armor flex. check r value on insulation for your area.
