- That's the point! Light year is the distance that light travels in one year. It's about 9.46*10^12 km
- Q: What color would a black object look under a red light?A cyan object under a blue light?A magenta object under a green light?A red object under a yellow light?A yellow object under a red light?
- So much depends on whether an object is wide band or narrow band. If both the source and the destination are narrow band then the target will appear black unless the source has some of the same wavelengths as are in the destination. If the source is broadband and the destination is narrow band then the destination will appear its own colour only. If both are broadband then we must consider the full gamut of wavelengths that they both have in common. eg in the first case it will be bluer than cyan and more cyan than blue. Turquoise? in the second we can say that green contains yellow, green and blue light. Magenta reflects reds and blues. so the blue is in common to both. It might appear blue. Yellow light may contain red, orange, yellow and green. The red object will reflect reds and oranges and some yellow. So the red object may appear orange. Similarly for the yellow object in red light. It all depends on the range of colours that exist in each object ( source and illuminated object )

- lighting for a goldfish is more asthetic than anything. If you had a coral reef aquarium of something that's different, but a goldfish is a cold water fish and doesn't need heat or light to survive... that being said, fish in general are less stressed if you mimic the day/night cycle (use a timer for ease and convienience) meaning leave the light on during the day and shut it off at night when you go to sleep. I have mine automatically come on at 10am and off at 11pm so it is on when i get home from work all the way until bed and I can enjoy the fishies. Please remember though, fish sleep too and need a night cycle, don't leave the light on 24/7... plus it's bad on the electric bill! If you really wanted you could switch the light for a black light but I doubt it would enhance your fish any, if you want that... buy what is called a blue actinic bulb from petsmart. They give a blue color designed to enhance you fishes appearance... If you want to see your fish at night, invest in an LED lunar light. one should suffice in a 10 gallon and they aren't expensive... again, at petsmart. It slips right on the side of the tank and is a soft blue light that mimics the moon's rays. They are designed for night viewing of nocturnal creatures, although, your goldfish will not be very exciting to watch sleep! I hope this information is helpful. Good Luck!

- Light years are a measurement of distance, not time. A single light year is the distance light travels in an Earth Year. A ray of light travels at about 186,000 miles per SECOND. So it's a long way. 2,000 light years is about twelve thousand TRILLION miles. So it's a very, very, very long way. EDIT: Just to give you an idea of the speed of light. A ray of light travels in a straight line under most circumstances, but if it could curve easily, it could circle the Earth about 7 times in 1 second.

- They do not need light but it is good to have the lights on in the room that they are kept in for at least 10-12 hours a day, especially when being fed. But no they don't need a special light just have something on them for a couple hours.
