- Q:are tiles get really dirty fast and i tried everything and i cant get them to stay white could i use bleach?
- If they're a natural rock, like travertine, use Tilex and scrub them with a stiff plastic bristled brush. Use a cloth with hot water and a mild detergent to take up the excess Tilex. Then put down a tile sealer after it's dried. This will keep them from getting dirty again so fast. If they're ceramic and have hard water stains or whatever on them, you can use Tilex for the grout and CLR on the surface. Put a moist cloth down and pour the CLR over it to let it soak for about 15 minutes. The hard water stains should soften and come up easily. BTW - if this is a mildew problem (like in a shower or around a bath tub), don't use bleach. For some reason, even though it kills the mildew initially, it actually fosters the return of the mildew quickly.
- Q:Bathroom tiles are often encountered in the water dyed ugly color, the market tiles have no waterproof anti-fouling ability?
- But can not be tiled after the tile with silicone or silicon Wan soaked, but also waterproof
- Q:on to ceramic tile and was told by ace hardware to use acryl pro ceramic tile adhesive ive layed a few tiles but i dont think its right. need some help, is this the correct procedure?????
- the first thing you should do is make sure your floor is smooth, by smooth i mean filling all the grout lines in the ceramic tile. the self stick tiles will sink into any places that there is an indentation. i would NOT recommend doing what you are. the only way i MIGHT do this would be to glue, using lots of liquid nails, new laun over the tile then apply the self-stick tile
- Q:Can I paint over the tiles? If so what kind of products would I use and how would I prep the tiles?
- i wouldn't paint them . . .I used to have this shower remodel job for a college, we'd have to paint over the old shower tiles with the above mentioned 2-part epoxy paint...and it sucked. not only was it a hassle to sand those tiles, but to mix the paint and get it smooth and even...it's just very frustrating and i wouldn't wish it on my enemies. if the tiles are REAL BAD, then save up and just do a bathroom remodel...if not, then use other colors to accent the bathroom. blue and yellow go well togther, also blue and orange...or you could get a rich brown to go with it, it really depends on the blue and how bad it is. hope this helps good luck
- Q:How difficult is it to strip and reseal saltillo tile floors? Is this something that I can do myself or do I need to hire a professional?
- Stripping Saltillo Tile
- Q:If I start in the middle, I will have to cut tile for both sides. I think I should start in the upper right corner, but my neighbor seems to think it will look out of balance.
- Of course you start in the middle...but then again there are two ways of starting in the middle. Measure the space. Measure the tile and add the thickness of the future grout line. When you expect to cut the tile, and one always expects to cut the tile, you want to make sure that if you in fact begin with a GROUT LINE down the middle, you will have tiles of at least 1/2 the size down the sides. You don't want slivers of cut tile because your tile almost made it to the walls. So you may want a whole tile centered in the entry rather than the grout line. You can always lay the tiles out and see how it will look. Generally you do not want to use a wall as a straight edge, because usually they are neither straight nor parallel, nor perpendicular to other lines. Cutting a tile ever so slightly over a short distance will hide the building's flaws. Over a long distance it might become noticable. When you lay the tile out and you can decide where to end it rather than it automatically ending at a wall or something, you could start a nearly whole or whole tile at the door. Again you don't want a sliver of tile anywhere. If your tile is ceramic and has a stone pattern, be sure to orient them differently so as to minimize the repetitiveness. Never start in a corner.
- Q:We just bought an old house and the previous owners did a really poor paint job. I scratched off some paint on the tiles in the breakfast nook and the original tile looks really nice. I want to remove the rest of the paint without damaging the tiles.
- Providing the tile you are discribing is a fired material, you can't hurt it with almost any chemical. Think of the glazed top of the tile as being a glass surface. An exception might be if the glaze has craze lines in the surface. Colors from paint spatters can find their way into these cracks and are almost impossible to get out. SO test the chemical in a small area first. Some paints will not be easily effected by thinners or mineral spirits .you may have to try Turpentine or equal. Acetone is stronger yet. It's the base for fingernail polish remover with a little oil smell good added. A small razor blade paint scraper is also handy. When using a razor make sure first that it dosn't leave a silver like scratch mark on the surface. This is the information that I found at the site below. I bought big bottles of cheap fingernail polish remover. Worked like a charm. I also used the finest grade of steel wool. And I used a plastic scraper so as not to scratch the surface. Hope this helps!! Have fun!!
- Q:Specifically, what type of drill bit is required that won‘t chip the tile.
- Tile of this type is baked, and is therefore very hard and the glaze is a very slick surface that the drill bit has trouble getting a bite on. You could try using a center punch to mark the hole location, being careful NOT to break the tile; or use a bit made for glass (uses diamond dust and actually grinds the hole rather than drilling it.)
- Q:I have a small bathroom (toilet only) that has carpet that smells and I want to replace it with 12 X 12 inch tiles. Is there a type of tile that will make the installation simple (avoid grout) and is easy to cut and easy to installHigher quality but simple installation is desired.
- Sorry, tile has to be grouted. It all installs the same way. It is really pretty simple to install, but you will need a tile saw or tile cutter and the proper tools. You will also want to remove the toilet during installtion. This way the tile will run up under the toilet base.
- Q:Our house has the same ceramic tile throughout the house but when we bought it, the owner didn‘t have any extra tiles. We have a crack that has spread through several tiles and needs to be repaired in some way. I haven‘t been able to find these tiles at any store. Any suggestions on how to get matching tiles or how to fix the crack if I can‘t find the matching tiles?
- Take a piece of the tile into your local hardware store and tell them that you want to match it. If they don't have it, I would suggest just tiling over it.
