- Q: Rooftop solar panel (not sure if rubber or plastic?) has leak arising from thin vertical crack in panel about long. Any ideas for repair? Thanks.
- bypass the whole panel if you can ( one individual panel of several ) , or bypass that loop in that panel - car part rubber hose clamps
- Q: I know that there is a life expectancy for solar panels, and I suppose, the technology involved. Any information?
- Who okorder /... That suggests that the power the panel output will degrade a little less than % per year. We've had ours up for 5 years now, and I haven't noticed a steady degradation pattern. But the yearly weather is so variable, it's hard to see a pattern. The 2nd year's production was actually higher than the first. It could just be clearer skies or colder temperatures, who knows.
- Q: Please tell me what they are made of and how the materials help the solar cell produce electricity. Im doing a science projects so i need help on knowing all this info. Its a debate, so i need correct information please.I will please need more information about the bad things about solar energy and solar panels. Please say what solar panels do to create pollution or do anything that is not friendly to the environment. If you want just give me a website. Thank you
- Solar cells are mainly made of a semiconductor called silicon, when sunshine on it,solar energy is converted into electrical energy by photovoltaic. The energy knocks electrons loose, allowing them to flow freely. This flow of electrons is a current, this current, together with the cell's voltage (which is a result of its built-in electric field or fields), defines the power (or wattage) that the solar cell can produce.
- Q: I'm trying to charge rechargeable AA batteries with a solar panel. What guage wire should I use to connect the panel to the batteries? Should I use a diode to keep the batteries from overpowering the circuit? If so, what size? My panel is 4.8V 50mA.
- You not only need a diode, but a circuit that opens the circuit if the voltage falls below a certain level. The diode is not the problem, but the batteries powering the solar panel when the voltage falls to low.
- Q: Can solar panels be used for powering outdoor signage?
- Yes, solar panels can be used for powering outdoor signage. Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity, making them an eco-friendly and cost-effective solution for outdoor signage that is not connected to the grid.
- Q: I need to build a battery array to use with my solar panels I just bought. I want to be able to store enough energy to be draw from it at night, possibly around the clock. Is there a down side to using the deep cycle battery I bought from autozone and 6 or 7 more just like it, or do I need to get some other battery?
- There are batteries particularly made for solar, such as the Trojan T05-RE . I think the RE stands for renewable energy. A deep cycle battery should work all right, although not quite as well. What you want to do is try out your setup first, with just one battery, and the panels provided. If this is one of those 45 watt kits, you may be surprised at how little energy you actually get from the panels. Increasing the number of batteries won't help, either - that's like getting a larger water tank, when you only have a trickle to fill it. If your goal is really to save money, the most cost-effective solar is the grid-tied type, with no batteries at all. That's what we have, and I've never regretted it.
- Q: i have a 2v 2a solar panel that i want to use to charge a 2v battery .Have found out that i need a charge controller so i don't over charge the battery.I have found a cheep one its 2v but 7a will it still work ?All-so im planing on running a 2v water pump off the battery with a timer, its for watering my garden. Will the timer have to be 2v as well ?any help on this would be greatly appreciated thanks .
- The charger will accept whatever current is necessary from the solar panel up to 7A. It's not like the solar panel will force 2amps into the charger/battery -- the charger will control the current going to the battery. I question whether or not the 2V panel will actually charge the battery, though, because in order to charge a standard lead-acid 2V battery you need to have about 4.5 volts applied to the terminals. Perhaps the charger has a boost circuit -- I don't know without looking at it or knowing the brand/model number, etc. The timer must be 2VDC, but, if you only have a timer that is rated for 20VAC, you can buy a small inverter that will take 2V and supply the necessary 20VAC. An inverter rated for 20 to 50 Watts should be sufficient. These usually cost under US$25. .
- Q: What would it take to make a heater for a small solar panel. I am looking into making a heater for a livestock tank to keep ice melted. I know that heaters take alot of energy to run, but my theory is that if heated mirrors on a car can melt ice with low voltage and im sure not extreme heat (40-60 degrees) then making a heater with just high enough temperature to keep from icing over and melting ice is possible. Where do I start? I would like to use an inexpensive solar panel that will generate enough heat to keep ice from forming and melt it at the beginning of the day. How can you make such a heater and apply Ohms law so that it will function correctly, what Wattage will the pannel need to produce to generate enough heat for the heater. The device will only have to be large enough to melt a spot large enough for an animal to drink.
- Absolutely. But I see your point about the Ohms law. I think you'd need technical schematics to get the raw details.
- Q: want to add solar panels to manufactured home, and we get a lot of snow up here in the NW. Wondering if it would interfer with the roof load.
- A single hexagonal solar panel weighs around 0 to 2 pounds (see link). A conventional silicon solar panel might weigh 40 pounds.
- Q: I have in mind a small solar panel that could be plugged into a wall socket. Do I need a converter or some kind of interference between the two power sources so there aren't any unpleasant explosions? I don't know much about this sort of thing so please be nice.
- You can use a solar panel to heat water, and you can generate electricity, but you can't plug it into a wall socket. The most effective way to save on your energy bill is by heating water. Solar panels that produce electricity, don't store it. They produce it for that particular time, and if you're not there to use it, it's gone. Furthermore, the electricity isn't always regular, it may have peaks and shortages. The best way to tap into that, would be to sell the electricity you produce to the grid, and then buy it back when you use it.
