Q: Cannot screw hinges into door because screws have nothing to grip onto. Cant use toggle anchors either. Was thinking of using dowels but then again, the dowel has nothing to support it... What about just squirting a tube of liquid nails down the inside of the door and inserting galvanized screws (despite only being held by the adhesive..) The door still weighs 100+ pounds with all the waterlogged wood in the center
Sounds like you are referring to a typical metal clad door. If the wood is rotten, there is not much you can do with the door but scrap it and buy a new door. Any other method will just delay the fact that the door has to be scrapped. You require solid material to hold a 100 pound door on the hinges. Liquid nail is meant to fasten materials to-gether with a thin layer of the compound; NOT as a filler. A stop gap solution which may work temporarily is epoxy. If you can fill the area inside the door with enough epoxy and let it set; then you may be able to drill a small pilot hole into the epoxy after it set then insert the screws to hold the hinges. This would only be a temporary fix as the moisture inside the door will eventually cause the steel cladding to rust through. Personally you are wasting your time and money keep that door.
Q: CUTTING A NICE METAL DOOR THE MATERIEL I NEED TO WORK ON A NICE METAL DOOR
You can cut the bottom off of a metal door. You will need to take the door and set it up on a stable work surface. First, remove the weather strip on the bottom. Determine how much needs to be cut off and make your marks or draw a straight line. Attach a straight edge with clamps above your marks equal to the distance that the edge of your circular saw (skill saw)blade is set back from the side of the base plate. Make sure that you have a good metal cutting blade installed in your saw. Cut the door, ensuring that you move the saw along at a steady pace. You may want to insert a wooden filler into the space that is open now and reinstall the weather stripping. For safety sake you should be wearing a dust mask and face sheild along with ear protection and long sleeves. Also ensure that you do this away from any combustible material as sparks will fly. You will have to sand, prime and paint the cut area of the door once completed
Q: Does it have something to do with power windows and locks? Im only considering the Sahara trim level since I hate the plastic wheel well covers of the other trims, but this would be a serious concern if I end up considering purchasing one.
okorder then select your jeep up at the top of the page, click on body and frame parts then click on fender flares. you will find a great selection of different flares for the jeep. Quadratec is also great for other jeep parts as well. the fender flares are not difficult at all to change yourself. It will more than likely be cheaper this way also. O|||||||O Hope this helps!
Q: we have stripped a metal door frame so that the metal of the frame is bare. what CLEAR coat material can i use that will not turn the metal yellow (as a shellac or laquer would). what product can i use that is NOT waterbased...which would cause the steel to rust?
a clear coat epoxy, or a clear base D.T.M. (direct to metal) industrial enamel....painting contractor
Q: We bought a foreclosure and the only major damage is to the front door. The house was stripped but we have replaced all fixtures, etc - They previous owners tried to pry the deadbolt lock off the front door when the bank took possession. It would be expensive to replace the door. They run anywhere from $400.00 to 600.00! Its metal, painted matte white, and has a stained glass window in it. Is there any way to repair the dents in the door? If I needed professional repair, who would I call? Some of the paint was scraped off too. Any ideas?
sand the dents and fill them with auto body bondo/filler sand the door with 400 git emery paper and clean the surface with metal prep from a auto supply shop and paint again with a good enamel paint.
Q: My family of aluminum doors and windows no one touched the wind will be how their own ring is going on?
No guess the wrong words, it should be you a door, aluminum doors and windows have sounded, it is because the door, the house of the air and other houses to flow, and will ring, if other types of windows will not ring, This is the shortcomings of aluminum doors and windows.
Q: Home decoration, bathroom with solid wood composite door good or titanium alloy door good? With solid wood composite door afraid of durable, afraid of moisture after the door expansion deformation or even rotten, with titanium alloy door price is high, and the seal is not a good wooden door, in the end with what good? Please have the experience to the point of advice, extremely grateful! Province of high school students
Solid wood composite door is not only damp after the door expansion deformation or even rotten, and the door sets and lines will crack, drop paint. Titanium alloy door is divided into several models, there are outsourcing edge, inside the package edge, a good point of the price of 600 yuan, there are double package edge, a good price of 900 or so, lower than these prices do not use the titanium alloy door, Maintenance trouble, titanium alloy door sealing performance is also OK, if it is the bathroom, first or titanium alloy door
Q: Home to build a house, the door do not know which kind of good election. Some people say that aluminum and titanium alloy is good, corrosion resistance, strong antioxidant. Some people can say that galvanized sheet is good, cheap, and is welded prison, and aluminum titanium alloy is rivets. I have no idea now.
Two kinds of doors are nothing. Strength, then the galvanized sheet to be better, but low. Aluminum alloy strength is slightly lower but beautiful, is the trend. Branch of the aluminum processing plant to provide
Q: Our last home had a wooden garage door, so this is new territory for me. The paint on our metal garage door peeled off from the string of hurricanes we had a few years back (Im in east FL). Its now gotten to the point where every time it rains, a little bit more paint peels off. Ive been trying to do some research online, but Ive really only found bits and pieces of info that dont really help me. I was told that I dont need to prep the door because the paint will stick to the original door finish... but my door has exposed metal where there is no finish. What kind of prep work do I need to do? Does the door need to be stripped completely and sanded? How about primer and paint, what should I be looking for? HELP ME.
clean the door very well and just lightly sand to prep for paint they sell a metal primer by rustoleum if its only small areas then you can by it in a spray can and hit those areas that are bare with a couple coats of the primer . if you dont have a sprayer and you want to brush it on then youre gonna want to do probably 3 thin coats never try to put too much paint on all at once and when you buy the finish paint buy the right solvent to thin the paint a little to be able to spread it on more evenly if you want to rent a sprayer or i would recommend a cup gun which is a small handheld sprayer that is hooked up to an air compressor and has a cup attached to the gun where the paint goes in.. hope this helps. Q: what is the best way to paint the interior side of a metal door; ? It is in the kitchen which exits into the garage...... what kind of paint should be used ? and does it need primered? What type of bursh, roller excetera would be best to use?? so to leave the least bursh, roller ect. marks ..... paint wise id like something that would be washable. Thanks
Certainly the job will be easier if it's a Flush door, but not impossible if it's paneled. You don't state what might be the current finish, but certainly KILZ or Zinser, make an excellent primer product, if you have access. I paint every day of my life, and once prepped, a metal door accepts paint as a wooden door will. I have a commercial building I maintain on a regular basis, with dozens of metal clad fire doors, and I use a fine,Tight cell) foam, roller cover. It will offer the smoothest finish, and I just use an interior SATIN Latex paint. Certainly you can use a Semi Gloss, or if the doorway is trimmed, use the same as the trim paint formulation. If you don't wish to brush cut and mask a doorknob of lock plates, remove them first to replace when the paint is dry. Steven Wolf just my two sense
