- I personally don't much care for toddler beds. But I waited until my kids were over 2 before I moved them to a big bed. I do know people who moved right to a big bed with rails with young ones. Some people just get the mattress on the frame and don't put on a boxspring so to keep it lower. It is really more a matter of preference.
