Q: I want to lay a sheet of plastic on the ground before planting cantaloupe. Does it work?
For what purpose do you want to lay down plastic? I've never used plastic in a garden. If you want to control weeds, you can lay a few sheets' thickness of newspaper down and cut 3-4 inch openings for the plants or seeds. It allows water to penetrate, unlike plastic, and it decomposes into the soil. I prefer mulch to prevent weeds. A 2-inch layer of grass clippings over the entire garden works well. Just be sure to keep it a couple of inches away from the base of each plant.
Q: On multiple care sheets I have read that Corn Snakes and Ball Pythons and other Snakes like that could live in Transparent plastic storage Boxes but how would you use heat mats and humidifiers.I also went to an animal rescue and they said,you could keep them in boxes long term and they have rows of these with snakes in and they were at Gullivers World with a species of a Young Boa Constrictor that was about 4ft long and in an approximate size box of 2ft x 1 1/2 x 1/2ft.
unless they are designed with proper air ventilation unlike aquariums, etc they are NOT good to use long term ... EXO terrarium or wood with glass fronts proper air vents are better, wood the best ! Electric heat tapes, mats, rocks are NOT good to use tho if placed on a wall the tape mats are OK just not the best - anything a reptile has to lay on for warmth is dangerous to them. In a store or rescue they don't plan on keeping them long so it's a little different then when you own them as pets and many breeders use the plastic etc for temp housing as well but when you have a lot of reptiles most just heat the rooms they are kept in rather than trying to heat each individual habitat / vivarium !! A lot of smaller snakes can live in vivariums of 24x24 inch their whole lives , it's when you get into bigger like Red Tails, etc that you need 5 - 6 foot vivariums ( NOT, aquariums or plastic containers < unless you add proper vents to the plastic kind - which cannot be done with glass aquariums ! ) TC
Q: I am looking for something in rolls or very big sheets. It has to be thin about like that of a milk jug give or take a bit. I saw some school folders that are now made out of plastic that are about the right thickness. White or clearish are the best color. Got any ideas?
The hardware store or the hardware dept of like a Wal-mart. It's sold in packages for painting to keep the floor clean. Look for different sizes called mil (this is the thickness measurement). Also the for some of clearest plastic, you can find it at fabric stores like Jo-ann's or Hancock Fabric.
Q: Do you have to use special ink or a special printer to print sheets for an overhead projector?
These type of projectors don't require any kind of special paper of ink. They'll project anything that's put into the optic Inlet. Even if it's not inked paper (no, no! I didn't mean Try your butt on it!!!!!) :D Cheers.
Q: I need to find some sort of plastic that isnt crazy expensive but strong enough to have people stand on and be able to see threw. Kind of like a bridge, thats transparent.

Q: Hi all,I would like to know how to calculate the maximum volume of a bag made from 1 folded plastic sheet of which the outer edges are welded together. Say the bag is 1 m x 2 m. If I inflate that bag, the volume will increase until it reaches a maximum. Does somebody know how to calculate the maximum volume? Thanks
I don't know, and this is an approximation. Suppose the center cross-section of the bag (1 meter from each end) inflates to where it is perfectly circular. The diameter of the circle will be (2 m)/pi = 0.6366 m. Near the ends of the bag, the cross-sections parallel to this center cross-section might be very narrow ellipses; and exactly at the ends of the bag, the X-section is 0. Let's suppose the semi-minor axis of each ellipse decreases linearly from 0.3183 m to 0 unifomly as you move along the long axis of the bag. Note that you will not get 1 full meter away from the central X-section, because the section looking sideways at the 2-m seam is a rhombus of perimeter 4m, and its minor diagonal is 0.6366 m. Then the full length of the inflated bag would be 2 sqrt(1^2-0.3183^2) = 1.896 m. So I'm going to assume every cross-section parallel to the circular cross-section is an ellipse, whose semi-minor axis varies linearly from 0.3183m down to zero, and whose semi-major axis varies linearly from 0.3183m up to 0.5m. In particular, taking x=0 to be the coordinate of the circular X-section, I have b = 0.3183 - (0.3183/0.948) x, and a = 0.3183 + (0.1817/0.948) x. the front sheet is an opaque pvc over a dark blue card with blue wax over it. when you write on the pvc it presses the pvc onto the wax and the text appears, pulling the pvc away from the wax removes the image and resets the tablet.
