Q:Hydroponically speaking, what are the easiest vegetables to grow in perlite and vermiculite?
Probably vermiculite, an insulating material used at one time. Not sure what it is made up of but I have been around it with no ill effects.
Q:Why doesn‘t mica expand when wetted? Also why do vermiculite and montmorillonite expand when they are wetted. Additionally why does montmorillonite expand twice as much or more than vermiculite when wetted?
Because its not porous, so it doesn't absorb the water. How much something expands or contacts when wet depends on how much water it can absorb.
Q:Wanting to know everything to buy and if any 1 has some incubators for sale ill buy 1 using my PayPal let me know
Two adult enclosures, which have controlled heat sources (thermostat, heat mat), hides, etc. 1 hatchling rack which can house up to 12 hatchlings. Thermostat to control the heat source in the rack (assuming you get a model with built-in heat). 1 incubator. A Reptibator would be fine. A digital kitchen scale that weighs in 1 gram increments. Deli cups, vermiculite, supplements, gut-load formula, and a supplier for tiny insects for the hatchlings, and larger ones for the adults. Unless you are buying higher end, expensive leopard gecko morphs, do not expect to make back your investment. In general, expect to sell your offspring for half of pet store retail prices. You may have difficulty selling normal leopard geckos, or extremely common morphs. So, if you're doing this to make extra money--think again. If you're doing it for fun and experience, then enjoy your new hobby. :) Of course, buy a book on leopard gecko care and breeding, and get all of your equipment in advance. Buy your geckos from a breeder, not a pet store, and make sure they are at the proper weight and age before breeding them.
Q:I'm breeding both my females this year and am wondering what the ratio if for the water:vermiculite. I have heard that you multiply the vermiculite weight in grams by .8 and and add that answer to the weight of vermiculite, then add the water until you get to that number. So just say that the vermiculite was 40. Multiply this by .8 which is 32. so 40+32=72 grams. Then add the water until you get to 72 grams. Is this right?
You may not be able to find peat moss as some countries have put a ban on using it in garden compost. Vermiculite should be no problem it might just be a language thing.
Q:Ok im breeding ball pythons and i dont have an incubator i was wondering what a good one would be that does not cost a whole lot?
I used a Thermal Hova Bator Incubator and moist vermiculite bedding when I bred leopard geckos. I am not sure of temp or humidity needed for pythons but the incubator was really good at keeping them constant.
Q:what does vermiculite do with peat moss? is it better than coco peat? and what is peat moss? thanks for answering thoroughly
Go for Peat, or Vermiculite instead. Many of the professional keepers swear by Peat as a substrate, however although peat hold moisture quite well, the following are common problems: Mould, mites, fungus and other unwanted growths. To counter this the substrate should be microwaved (only when it's dry, otherwise their is a possible fire risk!) This will kill any mould or fungus spores, and anything else, such as mites. Vermiculite doesn't tend to encourage mould, fungus or mites. Though some tarantulas, especially arboreal species don't like it as it tends to stick to their feet. You can wet the coconut fibre a little more to encourage burrowing. I use a product called Bed-A-Beast. This product comes in a 4 X 8 X 2 block and when placed in water it yields about 8 litres of bedding. One block fills my five - 10x24 tanks and a dozen small containers for spiderlings.
Q:how do earthworms help compost?
Yes, it is. Vermiculite is heat expanded mica. Perfectly safe.
Q:Ok, Last night my leopard gecko egg finally hatched but now what do I do. I have a small kritter keeper lined with paper towels and I put the container that the egg hatched in, in the kritter keeper as a moist hide (it has vermiculite in it). When should I attempt to feed it? And If anyone can go into detail with their answers that will be great, including websites that can help.
Breeding Rack: Make it yourself. Most breeders do. They are usually made from 2x4's and plastic tubs. Vermiculite: Walmart, garden centers, pet shop Incubator: Make it yourself. A popular favorite is getting a used/broken stand up freezer and turning that into an incubator. You can also use Fridge/freezers, or mini bar fridges. Some people also convert fish tank and coolers to make incubators out of. I've herd of more good results from the DIY models then I've heard from the store bought ones. They are also a LOT cheaper. Check places like Craig's List for used freezers. Also check out places that come and pick up used/broken appliances to get them for scrap.
Q:It is only in the attic that have vermiculite (there is no insulation in the walls at all). I have not had it tested for asbestos. The attic is about 300 sf and it is about 3 inches thick.Just a ball park estimate. Thanks in advance!
dont do drugs
Q:i use vermiculite for my house attic insulation is that good
I thought white button mushroom, I assume the common one sold in stores, is grown on some kind of compost. There may be recipes using those but it should be substitutable with compost.
