- Light does not have a color. An object absorbs light of all sorts of frequencies, but will re-emit some of these frequencies. - Dark wood stain could be a good idea, as well as dark chocolatey brown or a deep orange/yellow. (Think Van Gogh's sunflowers with the pale blue/teal background)... Pale yellow is also a very nice complement to light blue. You may also consider a navy blue. :)

- First break down the secondary colors of light to the primary colors. Magenta is made up of red and blue. Yellow is from red and green. Cyan is from blue and green. So, now you know that basically you are mixing red, blue and green which makes white!

- Gels are only really necessary if your 3 light sources are different coloured light for example tungsten and daylight fluorescent. Then you would gel the light that is different to make them all daylight. Gelling for effect i.e. a warmer light you would gel all the lights, but you can do this globally in the video editor more easily. Gelling just one light for effect normally just looks odd, the real answer is to try it, but normally you want to work with all lights at the same colour temperature, daylight is best as then any natural light through a window would blend in. You can gel the background lights to create a mood, cooler or warmer or just for a colour splash maybe shone through a 'biscuit' to cast an interesting shadow (potted plants work well), but normally you want daylight balanced light on your subjects or skin tones start to look odd. - Yes, there have been studies that have indicated that white light is better. Specifically, outdoor metal halide lights produce a bluish white light while high pressure sodium produces a yellow light. It takes less light from metal halide to light an area than it does from high pressure sodium because, according to studies, the eye perceives more light in white conditions than in yellow conditions. It's not a matter of which one puts out more light, but what the eye perceives as brighter. This is why you can read a newspaper under a full moon (1 footcandle) which is a white light. All this said, putting white light, like fluorescent, in your room would be more pleasing to the eye than a yellow light, like incandescent.
