Q: i have now got lumps on my scaffolding and i have searched and it seems to be normal.. i just want to know how to get rid? any ideas? :): A scaffold piercing should not be done with a single long bar. Go back to your piercer, or to another one and ask them to change it to two short bars, this will take the pressure off the tissue. Then you should buy some cotton cosmetic pads. Fill up a mug with boiling water from the kettle, soak a cotton pad in the water, squeeze out most of the water but not all of it, have it as hot as you can stand and hold it onto the lump. The lump is likely filled with lymph and this will encourage it to drain. Do this for about two weeks. If the lump still hasn't gone away either go back to the piercer or go see a doctor. To the person that said it shouldn't be done with the two shorter bars. Yes, I know many people who have had it done with one bar and have been fine, but I know plenty of people with horror stories. My ear could not cope with the one bar and wasn't draining properly even with regular sea salt soaks. One of my piercings has migrated slightly but I'm confident that my piercer will be able to put my long bar back in for me.

Q: i had it done 2/3 months ago, it was fine at first but now on each end i have two lumps on my ear:S there relitavely smal...the size of like a really tiny pea.there really painfull and sore and quite red and sometimes they scab over with yellowy crust [yes i know sounds disguisting]im just a bit worried that its gone all weird or are these normal? am i cleaning it right?: I had the same situation occur when I got my scaffold/industrial done. I wouldn't be too concerned. The lumps are called hypertrophic scars, and supposedly they are pretty common and are caused by overcleaning, harsh products, or (as I think was my case) general irritation from the jewelry moving repeatedly back and forth through the piercing or being bumped around or rubbed/touched. Mine lasted quite a long time. Try leaving your piercing alone for a couple of days. Then salt water solutions or compresses are supposed to help the lumps to heal, and I also used tea tree oil and neosporine intermittently. Hot compresses like a heated washcloth applied to the area help to reduce the lumps, as well. Sometimes it's recommended to try another type of jewelry, like titanium, or switch temporarily to two separate bars. You might also try finding a really gentle cleanser/soap. I just kept my original piercing, using the above techniques off and on, and after months of the lumps remaining red and sore, they just went away totally. Just keep your eye out for any pussing (hypertrophic scars ooze, but they don't usually pus), increased swelling, and the area feeling very hot- these are signs of infectiona nd you should see your doc right away. Q: I had my scaffold pierced yesterday and now it is swollen and red. Its throbbing and painful. I have cleaned it and applied ice and antiseptic spray.I don't own any sea salt.HELP ME! I'M SO TEMPTED TO REMOVE IT.: Antiseptics are too harsh for a healing piercing, the pain, swelling and redness is completely normal. Stop using antiseptic and go to the grocery store to get some non-iodized sea salt, its only a few dollars and you can find it in the spice aisle where the regular salt is.

Q: i had my scaffold piercing done in the summer holidays and wen i went back to school (currently in my last year) they told me to take it out so i had to go back to the piercer. They changed the bar to two clear retainers in the holes so they wouldn't heal, now it hurts all the time and is red with a bubble on the top of my ear, any suggestions as to what i should do? :/: try drying it out with sea salt soaks, tea tree oil, aspirin paste (crushed aspirin and water) , chamomile tea bag soaks !!! keloids are unpredictable , you can get them anytime from changing the jewelry early, irritation, bumping it on stuff or accidentally yanking it , and they will either stay or go away !!! you can prevent infections by cleaning the piercing regularly with anti bacterial soap and sea salt soaks , making sure to use clean hands when handling the piercing and not letting anyone touch the piercing
