- Q: Does old attic insulation have espedus dust in it? Can it cause cancer if you breathe it?
- It depends on what type of insulation it is. Some vermiculite has been found to contain asbestos. If it is rock or mineral wool it is very unlikely that it would have asbestos in it. Mineral/rock wool looks like white or brown loose fill fiberglass. It is messy but a great insulator. No matter what type of insulation you have it is best to wear proper personal protection. Fiberglass and even cellulose have been found to increase the risk of certain cancers. Whenever I am working in an insulated attic I wear an N100 respirator. If your house was built before 1977 there is a good chance that the drywall mud used in the wall joints contains asbestos. GP purchased Bestwall in 1965 and they used asbestos in their joint compound since the 1950s. If you are really concerned you can take a sample to a lab or have them get a sample. If you do have any asbestos in your house prepare to open up your savings account because it is a huge expense to remove asbestos.
- Q: 1. Place 25g of iron powder and 1g of NaCl in a resealable plastic bag.2. Add 30g of vermiculite to the bag, seal the zipper, and shake the bag to mix the contents.3. Add 5 mL of water to the bag, reseal the zipper, and gently squeeze and shake the contents to mix them.4. Hold the bag between your hands and not any changes in temperature. What kind of reaction produces this kind of change? What is a practical application for this reaction?
- Mig, Tig, Arc, you can get any with 110V you just won't be capable of welding thick pieces
- Q: I've had my tarantula for about a year and a half. The first substrate I used was coconut fiber. The cage needed to be cleaned so recently I changed the substrate to peat and the tarantula did not like that much so after a few weeks with it keeping on its hide I changed it again, back to coconut fiber. It still stays on its hide and won't walk on the substrate, occasionally I see it on the water dish or on the glass on the side of the cage. It has been about a month since I put the coconut fiber in. It still eats the crickets if they wander on the hide. What should I do!? I don't know what else I can try.
- truthfully, this will not be too stable of an thought. element is, there are purely specific flowers that beardies can consume-- and additionally there is the difficulty to getting the beardie to realize he can consume this plant. c:
- Q: I have a gravid female and i have and incubator set up. the incubator is a simple container with sand, a container with vermiculite and a heat mat. I also have a theremomitor. how can i keep the tempurture at a constant temp.? I have it jumping around from 85-95 how do i keep it at the same tempurature? She is about to lay. All answers are appriciated.
- Usually if you use a thermostat and a digital thermometer you can regulate the temperature without having to remove the lid. Frequent opening is the most common reason for temperature fluctuation. Good luck.
- Q: Driving home i spotted a turtle on the side of the road. Afraid she would wander into the road i got out of my car. Doing a close examination and relizing she was hit and dead, i found that she must have just laid her eggs. So i took the eggs(afraid they would get hit too) and put them in a basket and brought them home. I now have them in a basket and convered with a washcloth in my sunroom where its nice and humid. What do i do while i wait for the rescue center to get back to me? (they are indeed snapping turtle eggs)
- It is unlikely they will survive if they weren't ready to be laid yet or were left out in the sun for too long. There is a chance, but it's slim. Put them in some moist vermiculite or perlite, available at any garden center. Keep them around 80 degrees, give or take. Snapping turtle eggs can take a little longer to hatch than other turtle eggs, up to 90 days. If they start to become sunken like a tire losing air, add water to the substrate to increase the humidity. If they turn moldy, then they are bad. Disregard the previous answer. They can be flipped over for the first couple of days after being laid. The female just drops them into a hole as she lays them and doesn't worry about keeping them right side up. After the first couple of days, then yes, flipping them over can kill them, but this isn't an issue yet. So although Brittany wants to be a smart a$$ and ask you if you know anything about turtle eggs, it is her that needs to learn a little more, especially considering she didn't say anything helpful at all about caring for the eggs. EDIT: Blah, blah, blah Brittany. You say you don't want to give unnecessary information, but that's all you're doing instead of giving helpful information. Obviously the eggs haven't been on the road for long or they would have dried up? Have you even ever cared for reptile eggs? Probably not or you would have had something useful to contribute rather than relying on poor care sheets for your information.
- Q: hello.i am thinking about getting a pet tarantula.i have been wanting one for the past year.and i think it is about time get one.So I have never owned a pet tarantula before just rats, cats, dogs, guinea pigs, lizards. What is a good breed for a beginner.and what are the basic care guides.and i am not looking for a pet to cuddle and handle all the time.so i know that most you shouldnt handle and if so a very little.so please and thankyou.:D
- Pet tarantulas are cool spiders, but beware of the poison.
- Q: Will they be okay the mom pushed them around a little bit. There is 8 egg what can I do to help them live ?
- Get some vermiculite from a local reptile shop and mix it with water so that when you squeeze it it holds its shape but no water comes out and then put this mixture into a tupperware container which has small air holes cut into it for air circulation. Dig small holes for the eggs this will make it so they wont roll around. This is very important, the eggs need to be undisturbed and kept the same way the mother layed them. Keep the temperature at 84-85 degrees with a humidity of around 80%. The incubation period usually runs around 45-60 days roughly.
- Q: How do you incubate crested gecko eggs?
- 1) You have not mentioned the name of the mushroom . 2) There are different methods of their cultivation depending upon the type . 3 ) In any case, the procedure you have adopted is very unique and unheard of . 4 ) I have my reservations about it ! 5 ) By the way is it rice flower ? or rice flour ?
- Q: I was preforming my science experiment which was what is the affect of electromagnetic fields on plant growth and now I find thes little tiny metallic pieces throughout the soil. DO you know what they might be?
- If by metallic you mean shiny, they're likely mica or vermiculite -- an additive used by garden companies to mediate soil properties like absorptiveness. If, on the other hand, they are actually metal (have you tried a magnet on them?), then you have some very unusual soil on your hands.
