GENERAL WARNING

1.    Before you attempt to install wire, operate and maintain the PV module, please make sure that you completely understand the information described in this installation manual.

2.    Contact with electrically active parts of a PV module such as terminals can result in burns, sparks and lethal shock whether the PV modules is connected or not.

3.    PV modules produce electricity when the sufficient sunlight or other sources illuminate the module surface. When the modules are connected in series, voltage id cumulative . When the modules are connected in parallel, current is cumulative. As a result, a large-scale PV system can produce high voltage and current which could present an increased hazard and may cause serious injury or death.

4.    Do not connect the PV modules directly to the loads such as motor since the variation of the output power depending on the solar irradiation cause damage for the connected motor.

1:In the case of a blushless motor, the lock function becomes active and the hall IC is most likely to be damaged.

2:In the case of a brush type motor, the coil is most likely to be damaged.

Q: Where can I find good instructions to build a cheap solar panel on my own?
Lowe's has some good plans, i built one using a 4'x8' sheet of foam in a box 6 tall cut grooves in the foam paint it with Black latex paint put a inlet and outlet at opposite ends of the box 4 in dia cover the box with a clear sheet of plastic put a screen over the hole in the top a duct in the bottom with a fan hooked to a temp switch , [hint a fan limit switch out of an old furnace works ] run the fan duct in to the house
Q: Didnt solar panels use to cost around $250,000 5 years ago?
For just 5 years ago, certainly not! Perhaps you are thinking of 50 years ago, the kind that was put on the early communication satellites? 5 years ago, there was a glut of polysilicon, so modules were actually a little cheaper than today. Solar cell makers were basically using the scraps thrown away by chipmakers. But today, more silicon goes into making solar cells than computer chips, so that bonanza is gone. We will see prices going lower this year, possibly 20% from last year, because of improvements in technology, but also an increase in polysilicon supply, and a slowdown in demand due to worldwide recession. Later this year is a good time to buy panels, if you have the cash. The industry site below tracks module prices. They used to have more data, but I guess the old data rolls off the screen with time. If you want to see the details, they'll charge you for the report.
Q: Can solar panels be installed in urban areas with limited space?
Yes, solar panels can be installed in urban areas with limited space. There are various options available such as rooftop solar panels, building-integrated photovoltaics, and solar canopies that can be used to maximize the utilization of available space in urban areas. Additionally, advancements in solar technology have led to the development of more compact and efficient solar panels, making it easier to install them in limited spaces.
Q: I don't have a regulator connected as they are a little expensive for a pensioner, If I join the panels into line to the battery bank from the roof should that be OK.?
You can do this, but it isn't the best way to go. There is no problem with joining the solar panels. There are two ways to do this, in series and in parallel. A series combination will add the voltages that each panel is producing together, but not the amperages. For example, if five panels are producing 6V at 300mA each, the end result will be 30V at 300mA for a series array. A parallel combination combines the amperages of all the panels, but not the voltages. So, in our earlier example, five panels at 6V and 300mA would provide 6V and 500mA (.5A) if wired in parallel. Series-parallel combinations are also possible, giving some of the benefits of each method. This would probably better understood by doing a quick search on Google Images for series, parallel, and series-parallel. You CAN connect the solar panels directly to your battery bank with no regulator. Unfortunately, without a regulator, the connection is two-way. When the sun is out and the solar panels are producing more voltage than the batteries, the batteries will charge. However, when the panels are producing less voltage than the batteries, the batteries will instead send power into the solar panels, which will be dissipated and wasted. The panels may charge your batteries during the day, but they will discharge them at night.
Q: i am starting to consider getting solar panels instead of paying electric bills which are somewhat higher now than they used to be
Solar power is expensive power. The costs have been coming down but unless it's the only option or there are government subsidies, it would still be less expensive to buy electricity from the grid. The way you compare the upfront costs of solar power with monthly bills is by the Internal Rate of Return equation or the Net Present Value calculation. Vendors will use the payback periods to try and convince you into a financial decision where they reap all the benefits so you need to learn how to do a proper financial analysis. The average US household uses about 950 kwh per month, unless you are very wealthy, you will not be able to afford enough panels for that and you probably don't have enough roof space. You will have to reduce your power usage as much as possible. Batteries are expensive and inefficient. Lead acid batteries are 95% efficient at discharging but only 50% efficient at charging. A battery based system would not only include the costs of the batteries but would also double the number of panels required. Lead acid batteries have their lives rated at only 20% draws on their capacities, they lose a lot of life with each deep cycle. There are deep cycle batteries which have thicker plates but they are also rated at 20% draw and a deep cycle battery's life would drop to 94% with just one deep cycle draw. This means, it's customary to buy five times your diurnal capacity worth of batteries, fortunately this allows for several cloudy days. If you do want to have deep discharges, buy Nickel Iron batteries. You will want a grid tied system instead where you sell the power you produced to the utility and buy back what you need effectively turning the grid into a 00% efficient battery. Of course, there are costs involved as the utilities would likely charge a monthly fee just to be hooked up so this cost must be taken into account. There is also the risk that the utilities may change their net-metering arrangements on you later.
Q: What is the maintenance cost of solar panels?
The maintenance cost of solar panels is relatively low. Regular cleaning and inspection are recommended to ensure optimal performance, but typically, the cost of maintenance is minimal compared to the savings generated by solar energy.
Q: What, if any, improvement in efficiency per square foot or meter is realized by a solar panel in space vs. being mounted on the ground where the light is attenuated by the atmosphere? In passing, I found a site that gives an output of .89 watts / 4 in. sq for a particular home-mounted panel.
The mirrors might could desire to be on computerized monitoring gadgets so as that using fact the sunlight strikes it might keep the pondered sunlight on the panel with value of optical sensors and stepper automobiles and %s or laptop controllers then you definitely've the mirrors which destroy in hailstorms except you employ chrome metallic ones that in the process basic terms mirror 60% in assessment to 80% for glass To tutor what I say take a small hand mirror outdoors and prop it up so it reflects at one brick or spot on wall mark it or keep in mind it then wait or come lower back in 20 min see what proportion times it may be moved and how complicated the development of circulate
Q: Can solar panels be used for charging electric scooters?
Yes, solar panels can be used for charging electric scooters. By connecting the electric scooter to a solar panel system, the sunlight energy is converted into electricity, which charges the scooter's battery. This eco-friendly and sustainable method of charging can reduce reliance on grid electricity and promote renewable energy usage.
Q: Can solar panels be installed on a school or university campus?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on a school or university campus. Many educational institutions are recognizing the benefits of solar energy and are choosing to install solar panels on their campuses. This not only helps in reducing carbon emissions and dependence on fossil fuels but also serves as an educational tool for students to learn about renewable energy. Additionally, installing solar panels can lead to cost savings on electricity bills for the institution in the long run.
Q: So, assuming that a solar panel is flush with the ground (i.e. only the photovoltaic side is visible, the other sides are covered by dirt,) what would happen if it was run over by a car? How about an SUV? Would it break?Would the solar panel still generate electricity?
Even running over one with a mountain bike will break the pannel. Now depending on how you run it over it might still produce power. If the circut is unbroken then what ever cells were not shattered and severed will work but most likely at a lesser capacity.
