- Q: I recently bought a '95 C220, shes my first MB and after a week of driving I have vowed to never buy any other brand of car. I think i've just about figured out all of her idiosyncricies, however this one still confuses me. There is a small 1/4 diameter or so plastic tube comming out of the floor to the left the battery/fuse box in the trunk, about 8 inches long or so. It has an L connector on the end, but it is not fastened to anything, nor can i find anything that it could fasten to. Any clues anyone? Vaccume tube for some component that was never installed?
- Most of these folks a correct its a vent tube. The stock battery has a hole on the side to vent gasses out . Most aftermarket batteries do not have a vent or its in the wrong place. Look for a Deka battery they fit perfect and have the vent. (also Car Quest sells the same battery different label) By venting the gas out it helps reduce the corrosion. The OE battery is VARDA, but the DEKA or CARQUEST brand is a better made battery.

- Just pry the plastic ring up (nothing is holding it). Perhaps it's stuck to the foam ring underneath it. After you remove the circlip, the the fork tube and lower will have to be pulled apart. The fork seal is in very tight. Hold the tube in one hand and the lower in the other hand. Push the forks together. Yank them apart with force (a bushing inside of the forks will hit against the seal like a slide hammer). They won't come apart in one pull. Push them - in - OUT -in - OUT - in - OUT

If you're worried about him starving, don't leave the food out of reach ;] You could try putting him at the top of the tube, if is close enough to the ground to prevent accidents. He will eventually get curious, or bored of being up there, and climb down. Try that a few times a day, and eventually he will go up on his own. My gerbil boys did the same thing, and now they're tube-climbing fiends. I think they just needed to know they would not get stuck after they went up. My rescue gerbil, however, was a smart one- he immediately ran right upstairs to investigate when he got home, after not living with tubes previously. Gerbils are burrowers in the wild, so they are used to tube-like spaces by instinct. Anyway, it will just take time and patience. Gerbils are just fine with tubes going straight up and down, it is dwarf hamsters that need 45* or less, since they are so small with slightly stubbier legs. :]

- i have always loved the idea of getting tubes for my hamster but i have and will never buy them for it. it can be very dangerous if it get stuck and cant breath. i use toilet roll tubes instead. they keep them happy and its something to gnaw on.
