- Well, you could get some PVC tubing and cut it to size, but that would probably cost as much as just getting a new filter. You could get a new UG filter (undergravel) but frankly, UG filters are not very effective. In theory, they suck all the gunk, poop, uneaten food into the gravel where it can biodegrade. It's a good idea, but in reality, the gunk just rots. It's like if you threw food, and pooped in your backyard. If you only did that a teeny bit, it might biodegrade, but if you did that alot, it would just pile up and rot. That's basically what happens. In a 5 gallon tank, waste adds up very quickly, even with just one fish. I suggest you get a hang off the back (waterfall) filter. They are much more effective. You'll still need replace 20% of the water every week, but it'll keep your tank crystal clear.

- Poly-vinyl-chloride(PVC)..you can't even get melted plastic or rubber to stick to that stuff.. That's the material they use to make your computer cables..its the molded structure below the actual color coating.

- Yep,the Harbor Freight setup works OK with some practice,there's quite a learning curve there. I use a toaster oven for smaller parts.The powder they sell is ground plastic with a low melting point. I did a much larger piece by preheating it with a propane torch then keeping it hot enough to flow.

- Goldfish do not need a bubblier. They come to the surface and take it in.

- I recommend NOT buying tubes. They're dangerous. Hamsters can gain a lot of weight and eventually not be able to get through the tubes, but they will still try! Which is dangerous because they might get stuck. Also hamsters fill their cheeks with food and that's another hazard. I had a cage with a spiral staircase that brought my hamster to a wheel that was at the top of the cage, you've probably seen it before, my hamster got stuck in the tube between the stairs and the wheel, and I had to break it off (without breaking her) because she was so stuck there was no other way to get her out. Tubes are just a bad idea. They're more suitable for gerbils. Get a cage with ladders and different levels. That way you can get a big cage with more room then one floor, and it's safe.
