- Q: Please, I want a good definition. :DD
- Solar panel is a battery of solar cells. Solar cell is a device which uses the sun's rays to produce electricity by the photovoltaic effect. The photovoltaic effect involves the creation of a voltage (or a corresponding electric current) in a material upon exposure to electromagnetic radiation. It utilizes the generation of a voltage when radiant energy falls on the boundary between dissimilar substances (as two different semiconductors).
- Q: Can solar panels be used in areas with high levels of air pollution?
- Yes, solar panels can be used in areas with high levels of air pollution. While air pollution can reduce the efficiency of solar panels to some extent, they can still generate electricity even in polluted environments. However, regular cleaning and maintenance may be required to ensure optimal performance and to prevent the buildup of pollutants on the panels' surface.
- Q: i have this usb solar panel charger i am building and the solar panel is about 2by .5quot;, so i was wondering if a led light can power it, if so will one be good or would i need more? if so how many?
- It could but the solar panel would produce much less energy then it took to light the LED.
- Q: I have a home made 24 volt electric cart. It is powered by two 2Volt deep cycle batteries. Since the motor runs on 24 volts the batteries are wired in series to produce the 24 volts. I only have a 2 volt battery charger, but I also have two 2 volt solar panels. It is a pain having to unhook wires, rewire it, or charge them one at the time.HERE IS THE QUESTION REALLY... Can I wire the two 2 volt solar panels together in series (ie: negative to positive) then connect it to the existing 24 volt system and have it charge the batteries fine. I know basic wiring, but I know nearly nothing about solar panels, will it work fine? will it cause them to break? or short out?(additional info, the solar panels are only rated at 5 amps so it will not overcharge the batteries or anything)
- If the panels are the same, there is no problem in putting them in series. If you examine the panels, they will be made up of about 36 identical cells in series. Ok, now you have 72 cells in series, fine if they are the same. You need (at a minimum) a diode in the line so that when it is dark, the panels do not draw current out the batteries (it wont be much but you might as well block it). You say the panels are rated 5 amps? Those are pretty good sized panels! Unless you have a charging regulator, I guarantee that they Will overcharge the batteries (unless the batteries are huge, like the size of a refrigerator). Did you maybe mean 5 watts? About a foot square? If so, the output is about 300mA (0.3 amps) which will not overcharge a battery as long as it is at least as large as a garden tractor battery. At a 300mA charge rate, it will take a longgg time to recharge.
- Q: When people buy small solar panels, what are the steps to making it actually charge or run something.. I'm completely new to this of course and im curious. what kinda of wire and other devices are needed and how do you attach the wire and everything..
- It is quite complex from an engineering point of view. If the objective is academic, then it is worth the education for a small system. If it is to save money, whether it is viable depends what are the current rates where U are and a whole bunch of issues. The current technologies available are very far from one size fits all! Hope this answers your question
- Q: I want to also know if the 0 watt rating on the solar panel is 0 watts per day or is it constantly adding 0 watts? Is there a time which the 0 watts is being added like 0 watts per second or 0 watts per minute and so on?
- What is the open circuit voltage and voltage under load with the panel in full sun? Assuming it is typical of many 0W panels, the open circuit voltage is 2V and the voltage under load is about 7V. 0W/7V is 588mA. A typical car battery is 40 Amp Hours. Amp Hours, or Ah, is the capacity of the battery. How much current a battery can delivery starting a car is called cold cranking amps. A deep cycle marine battery will typically be more than 40Ah. A 40Ah car battery at 50% charge will more than likely start your car in fair weather. Cold weather is another story. So, to get a completely dead car battery to 50% - 20Ah - would be maybe two days of full sunlight - with only a 50% charge, or about 2.2 Volts. Not a great battery charger - however - It makes a great supplement, and can offset the use of DC powered equipment in the vehicle while the engine is off. Things like low-wattage lights, cell phone chargers, tablets, and the like will drain the battery down that much slower. I have a number of powered but low current items on in my truck all the time. A panel helps offset some of that drain if I don't drive for a few days.
- Q: I'm going to this camp and the instructors asked us to be prepared tomorrow to build a sun tracker for a solar panel. Does any one have any ideas, tips, or advice?
- Since the sun moves in the sky on a very predicatable course you don't need a closed loop control system to track it. All you need is a clock-drive motor and the proper gearing for your latitude. The clock drive motor will move at a constant rotational velocity based on time, and when it is geared down properly the angle of the shaft will follow the sun. Make sure the clock motor is powerful enough to move the solar panel, etc. That's a start, anyway. .
- Q: I'm trying to charge rechargeable AA batteries with a solar panel. What gauge wire should I use to connect the panel to the batteries? I know I'm not going to have a lot of current going through so the wire size doesn't really matter. Can the wire be too thick thoShould I ugh? Should I use a diode to keep the batteries from overpowering the circuit? If so, what size diode? My panel is 4.8V 50mA. Can I just hook the panel straight into the batteries or do I need something else?
- In order: .? Just about any wire will do.? You can handle 50 mA over just about anything, even 28 gauge telephone wire.? Your biggest problems are probably going to be mechanical stress (you want stranded wire instead of solid, to avoid breakage) and dealing with the size of larger wires. 8 gauge speaker wire may be a good optimum. 2.? You need a diode.? If you're charging NiMH or NiCd cells you're going to have about .25 volts/cell; you can charge up to 3 of them in series with a 4.8 volt panel.? The solar panel is a bunch of diodes itself, but they're leaky in the reverse direction; the diode prevents the batteries from discharging themselves back through the panel.? You want a Schottky-barrier diode, because the forward voltage drop is about 0.2 volts instead of 0.7 volts for a regular silicon rectifier.? This gives you maximum current output from your panel.
- Q: Can solar panels be used for charging laptops or smartphones?
- Yes, solar panels can be used for charging laptops or smartphones. Portable solar panels, such as those designed for outdoor activities or camping, are available in the market. These panels can convert sunlight into electricity and charge your devices through USB ports or power banks. Additionally, some laptops or smartphones also have the capability to directly charge from solar panels using special adapters or cables.
- Q: Can solar panels be used to power a satellite?
- Yes, solar panels can be used to power a satellite. Solar panels are commonly used in satellites to convert sunlight into electricity, which is then stored in batteries for use during periods when the satellite is not in direct sunlight. The efficiency and reliability of solar panels make them an ideal choice for powering satellites in space.
