Aluminium foil acts as a total barrier to light and oxygen (which cause fats to oxidise or become rancid), odours and flavours, moistness, and germs, it is used broadly in food and pharmaceutical packaging. The purpose of aluminium is to make long-life packs (aseptic processing|aseptic packaging) for drinks and dairy goods, which allows storing without refrigeration. Aluminium foil containers and trays are used to bake pies and to pack takeaway meals, ready snacks and long life pet foods.

Aluminium foil is widely sold into the consumer market, often in rolls of 500 mm (20 in) width and several metres in length. It is used for wrapping food in order to preserve it, for example, when storing leftover food in a refrigerator (where it serves the additional purpose of preventing odour exchange), when taking sandwiches on a journey, or when selling some kinds of take-away or fast food. Tex-Mex restaurants in the United States, for example, typically provide take-away burritos wrapped in aluminium foil.

Aluminium foils thicker than 25 μm (1 mil) are impermeable to oxygen and water. Foils thinner than this become slightly permeable due to minute pinholes caused by the production process.

Aluminium foil has a shiny side and a matte side. The shiny side is produced when the aluminium is rolled during the final pass. It is difficult to produce rollers with a gap fine enough to cope with the foil gauge, therefore, for the final pass, two sheets are rolled at the same time, doubling the thickness of the gauge at entry to the rollers. When the sheets are later separated, the inside surface is dull, and the outside surface is shiny. This difference in the finish has led to the perception that favouring a side has an effect when cooking. While many believe that the different properties keep heat out when wrapped with the shiny finish facing out, and keep heat in with the shiny finish facing inwards, the actual difference is imperceptible without instrumentation. The reflectivity of bright aluminium foil is 88% while dull embossed foil is about 80%.

Q: My experiment is to see which slice of apple will stay the freshest in aluminum foil, plastic wrap, or a plastic bag in the fridge.I don't really get how to get the independent, dependent, and control variablesI know the definitions but i don't know how to figure them out in an experimentPlease help, my variables are due monday, and i'm not asking for the answers so i can directly paste them onto my paperI want to know the answers so the next time i do an experiment i'll know what to do.
Materials like glass wool rely on the trapped air spaces to provide the insulating propertiesIf the glass wool is compressed or packed the size of the air spaces are reduced or eliminatedThis reduces the insulating capacity of the material because the amount of deal air is reduced.
Q: Calculate the density of Aluminium Bronze (4% Fe, 11% Al, rest is Copper). Thanks
aluminium is a metal... it has a valency of 3.. it has got all the props that a metal has for eg : lusturous, good conductor of heat and electricity..etc etc.... it is highly electropositive metal. it has emptyd orbitals and thus can borrow electrons and attain a stable confugeration... as its compounds are elctron deficient..! its compounds such as AlCl3 etc act as a lewis acid..the hybridisation state of Al is sp3d2... aluminium forms a thin protective oxide layer which prevents its further corrossion.. and this is also the reason y they do not react with weak acids.. Al is amphoteric(it reacts with acids as well as base) Al reacts with halogen to form trihalides... Al's covalency can be expected beyond 4 due to the presence of empty d orbitals...
Q: where is the thermocouple located and what does it look like on GAFFERS AND SATTLER unit 1967 year, thx for the infoill replace it when i know where it is
Looking at the gas valve, find the 1/4 aluminum tube and follow it to the pilot burnerRunning close to the aluminum tube and attached to the gas valve will be a smaller copper tubeThe thermocouple will be the small rod at the end of the copper tube next to the pilot burnerThe thermocouple is placed so that the pilot flame will play on the 1/2 to 3/8 at the endThat is called the hot junctionThe flame playing on the hot junction will produce a small amount of voltage that is used by the gas valve's safety deviceThe copper tube has a fitting that threads into the gas valveIt should be tightened slightly beyond finger tightThermocouples fail over timeYou can purchase universal thermocouple replacements easilyThey come with 18, 24 30 and 36 lengthsBuy the longer ones, the excess can be left coiled, no problemBe careful to position the hot junction correctlyToo much in the flame (more than 3/8) and the voltage will be canceledYou'll have to hold the gas valve in the pilot position and depressed long enough for the temperature of the hot junction to rise and make enough voltage to hold the safety device open.
Q: Every spring and summer without fail, those big black carpenter bees fly around my house, making it impossible to walk my dog and leave my houseMy house is made of wood, and the wood is paintedThis house is my grandmother's house and has been around for yearsEvery night I look for the holes they make, but I never find anyLike not even something that might be oneBoth houses beside this one are aluminum siding, so clearly they aren't thereBut with no holes in my house, where are they coming from? Any ideas as to what I can do?
Well unfortunately you can't stop dreamingEven when you think you don't dream you doREM Sleep is when all the dreaming is taking placeIt's been said that you shouldn't eat before hitting the sackThe use of drugs legal and illegal can cause nightmares as wellEven sleeping with you hands on your chest can cause this, so it's been saidHow long have you been living in your home? Or is there some kind of object you brought into your houseSome times things you get are gate ways for demons to enter into your homeBe careful of what you bring into your home as well as peopleYou might not be doing any kind of witch craft or anything related to it but they might beI tell you this because I had the same problem as you for a whole month or so.
Q: When I was younger, we always did quot;hoboquot; meals at camp every summerThey are foil packets you cook on a campfire and they are delicious! I want to cook some in my oven tonight but I need to know the temperature and how long to cook themI am cooking the meat separately, so I am just going to have veggies in the packets.
350 for an hourtoss your vegies with some oil and herbs, salt and pepperPut longer-cooking veglike potatoes on bottom of your packets so they'll self-baste.
Q: This question asks about the various applications of aluminum foil in the culinary context.

Aluminum foil is widely used in cooking for several purposes. It serves as a barrier to prevent food from sticking to the cooking surface, making cleanup easier. It can be used to wrap foods for baking or steaming, such as fish or vegetables, to retain moisture and flavor. Aluminum foil is also used to create packets for cooking 'en papillote', sealing in juices and aromas. Additionally, it can be used to cover food to prevent over-browning in the oven or to create a makeshift roasting bag for meats. It's important to note that while aluminum foil is heat resistant, it should not be used with acidic foods as it can react with them.

Q: What way do the paper plates face when making your own pinatas?
I never used paper plates in my pinatasI have used balloons and aluminum foilI guess it depends on what your pinata is going to be.
Q: The product of the reaction between aluminum and hydrochloric acid are aluminum chloride (AlCl^3) and hydrogen gasBalance the equation using the electron-tranfer method.
electron-tranfer method? I don't think I ever learnt anything by that nameHere is the balanced equation: 2Al + 6HCl - 2AlCl3 + 3H2
