- Q: How do solar panels affect home resale value?
- Solar panels can increase the resale value of a home due to their potential cost savings and environmental benefits. Studies have shown that homes equipped with solar panels tend to sell faster and at higher prices compared to similar properties without solar installations.
- Q: Can solar panels be used in areas with high humidity?
- Yes, solar panels can be used in areas with high humidity. However, high humidity can potentially reduce their overall efficiency due to increased moisture in the air, which may affect the performance of the panels. It is important to ensure proper maintenance and cleaning of the panels to prevent any buildup of dirt or moisture, which can further affect their performance in humid conditions.
- Q: Can solar panels be used in areas with high levels of air pollution?
- Yes, solar panels can be used in areas with high levels of air pollution. While air pollution can reduce the efficiency of solar panels to some extent, they can still generate electricity even in polluted environments. However, regular cleaning and maintenance may be required to ensure optimal performance and to prevent the buildup of pollutants on the panels' surface.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed in areas with high winds?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed in areas with high winds. However, it is important to design and install the solar panel system with wind load considerations. Proper anchoring and structural support should be implemented to ensure the panels can withstand strong winds without causing any damage.
- Q: Can solar panels be used in areas with high levels of wind-blown debris?
- Yes, solar panels can be used in areas with high levels of wind-blown debris. However, it is important to ensure that the panels are properly installed and maintained to withstand the impact of debris. Regular cleaning and inspection may be required to prevent any obstruction or damage to the panels, ensuring their optimal performance.
- Q: What would it take to make a heater for a small solar panel. I am looking into making a heater for a livestock tank to keep ice melted. I know that heaters take alot of energy to run, but my theory is that if heated mirrors on a car can melt ice with low voltage and im sure not extreme heat (40-60 degrees) then making a heater with just high enough temperature to keep from icing over and melting ice is possible. Where do I start? I would like to use an inexpensive solar panel that will generate enough heat to keep ice from forming and melt it at the beginning of the day. How can you make such a heater and apply Ohms law so that it will function correctly, what Wattage will the pannel need to produce to generate enough heat for the heater. The device will only have to be large enough to melt a spot large enough for an animal to drink.
- Absolutely. But I see your point about the Ohms law. I think you'd need technical schematics to get the raw details.
- Q: I'm going to this camp and the instructors asked us to be prepared tomorrow to build a sun tracker for a solar panel. Does any one have any ideas, tips, or advice?
- Since the sun moves in the sky on a very predicatable course you don't need a closed loop control system to track it. All you need is a clock-drive motor and the proper gearing for your latitude. The clock drive motor will move at a constant rotational velocity based on time, and when it is geared down properly the angle of the shaft will follow the sun. Make sure the clock motor is powerful enough to move the solar panel, etc. That's a start, anyway. .
- Q: Can solar panels be used to power a drone?
- Yes, solar panels can be used to power a drone. By integrating solar panels onto the surface of a drone, the panels can convert sunlight into electrical energy, which can be used to power the drone's motors and other electronic components. This allows for extended flight times and increased sustainability as the drone can harness renewable energy from the sun.
- Q: I am looking at building my own solar panels to at least help cut down the rising energy bill. I know its expensive. I already have the solar cells so no need to worry about listing that. But i am looking at wiring it directly into the house. Is there any parts that you could list for me, that would be great. thanks
- You're missing a few assumptions: - where on the globe? - how well is your house insulated, how do you plan to heat/cool your house? - why do you insist on power wasting appliances like plasma screens? Usually, unless it's absolutely impossible, a grid-tie-in system is much better than an insular system. You could use the grid to 'store' electricity for those times when the sun isn't shining and as fall-back if your yield isn't quite as good as you calculated. With the battery system, you'll have to specify your reliability requirements. If you want a 00% guarantee that you'll always have electricity, even if the sun is not shining for a week longer than you've planned according to the past weather history of your area, you'll either have to ridiculously oversize your battery (and panel) system, or plan for some sort of backup system anyway. Finally, if you're really planing such a system, you might want to take a look at the fridges and freezers used on sailboats: these use a eutectic cold accumulator, i.e. you 'charge' the fridge when the engine is running (or the sun is shining) and it'll then keep the temperature for another ~2...35 (professional systems) hours.
- Q: How are solar panels made?
- Solar panels are made through a complex manufacturing process that involves several steps. It starts with the production of silicon wafers, which are sliced from silicon ingots. These wafers are then treated with various chemicals to create a semiconductor material. The next step involves creating a sandwich-like structure by placing a layer of phosphorus-doped silicon on top of a layer of boron-doped silicon. Metal contacts are added to both sides to collect the generated electricity. Finally, the solar cells are encapsulated in a protective layer and assembled into a panel, ready for installation and use.
