- Q:Any feedback on solar panels?
- Solar panels really works good and reduce the usage of electricity.
- Q:How do solar panels affect the roof's structural integrity?
- Solar panels do not significantly affect the roof's structural integrity when properly installed. The panels are mounted on a rack that evenly distributes the weight, and professional installers ensure that the roof can handle the additional load. In fact, solar panels can even provide some protection to the roof by shielding it from the elements.
- Q:How does the size of a solar panel affect its performance?
- The size of a solar panel directly affects its performance as it determines the amount of sunlight it can capture and convert into electricity. Generally, larger solar panels have more surface area to absorb sunlight, resulting in higher power output. A larger panel can generate more electricity, making it more efficient and productive than a smaller one. Additionally, larger panels often have more individual solar cells, which further enhances their performance and efficiency.
- Q:i really need to know howbecause im building a solar powered car for science fair :]thank you!
- Hehe, if you want to build your own solar panel that looks like what you see on buildings, etc, you will probably need to be a multi-millionaire. Here is a quote from the first link in my sources list: The high-efficiency solar cells you can buy at Radio Shack and other stores are made from highly processed silicon, and require huge factories, high temperatures, vacuum equipment, and lots of money. But fortunately for you, there is a cheap way to make a solar panel yourself (see first link). I love the scitoys website, but I am not quite familiar with this particular experiment. It looks like a science fair project in itself! It also doesn't appear to put out nearly enough power to run even a small solar car. What I would recommend is buying a compact solar panel from Radio Shack or some other electronics store that you may know of. Type in solar in to the Radio Shack search box. The first item on the list may be useful to you (the solar panel battery combo). I am just guessing, though, since I don't know any of your requirements (voltage output, power output, size, etc). Also, buyer beware. This particular product has a pretty bad customer review... but then again, I find that people are more inclined to leave a bad review than a good one. Good luck... -Ubi
- Q:I live in the UK, I have no savings (so would have to take out a loan of about ?8000), I don't know how long I plan to stay in my house, I might want to move in a year or two to take advantage of a better job so I want to keep the option open of being able to sell my house without having to pay off the cost of having the panels fitted (which I probably won't get back on the increased value they add to my house). What are the main advantages of having solar panels? What are the pitfalls the ever so eager cold callers with quotas to fill don't tell you about?Basically is it worth having them?Thankyou.
- If you're talking about photovoltaic panels, for making electricity, they're very expensive. Around here I think it runs around 2 bucks a watt of capacity, just for the panels. Then they have to be installed of course, which means an electrician has to be paid, and you need an inverter also. You can also spring for a bank of deep cycle batteries if you want to be able to store the electricity from the panels to use at night or on cloudy days, but that adds another very large expense. Now if electricity is very, very expensive where you are, you could maybe pay this off in a few years, but I doubt you could pay off 8000 pounds worth of this stuff in only a couple years. If you're talking about solar for water or air heating, well, that's another deal. But those kind of setups cost a lot less to put in, I can't see anyone paying that much for it.
- Q:Can solar panels be used in areas with high levels of lightning activity?
- Yes, solar panels can be used in areas with high levels of lightning activity. However, they may be more susceptible to damage from lightning strikes compared to other structures. To mitigate this risk, proper grounding and surge protection measures should be implemented to safeguard the solar panels and associated equipment.
- Q:China is the world's biggest producer of solar panels
- China is also the world leader in using solar panels. Most solar panels in the US are not from China. There are several companies here in the US that make solar panels, and many states do increase the tax rebate for buying local products. Most flat plate water heating panels installed in the USA are made in the USA. Wouldn't it be nice to get people to buy more sustainable energy products and increase manufacturing jobs in the US, while actually improving the air quality and reducing our dependence on foreign oil? Oh, and perhaps we could get the money by cutting the amount of taxpayer funds subsidizing the oil and coal industries?
- Q:Can solar panels be installed on flat surfaces?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on flat surfaces. However, it is more common to install them on angled surfaces such as rooftops or mounting structures to maximize their efficiency and exposure to sunlight.
- Q:could any tell me what type off panel is the best tube or flat and how much it should be. I live in N Ireland
- My solar thermal installation uses a 30-tube NAVITRON panel. This has an effective area of 2m2 and produces enough hot water in summer for 3 showers and plenty of washing up! I estimate that, in it's first year, it has saved me about ?60 in gas. The panels and prices are shown in the attached link. Mine was fitted by a professional installer for ?2500, including a huge, new cylinder (dual coil) to store the extra hot water. Flat panels are much less efficient than vacuum tube collectors. While flat panels are frequently cheaper, these Navitron panels are such good value that I think buying inferior, flat panels would be a false economy.
- Q:Can solar panels be installed on restaurants or food establishments?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on restaurants or food establishments. In fact, many restaurants and food establishments are increasingly adopting solar energy systems to reduce their carbon footprint and energy costs. Solar panels can be installed on rooftops or other suitable areas to generate clean, renewable electricity for powering various operations within these establishments.
