Q: i have to do a science fair project and thought it would be cool to make a solar powered vw bus. i have 2 6volt solar panels to power a dc motor that works off of 9v 2v or 8v. i also bought a 2nd motor because the first wasnt workin for us. this one is a 3v motor. ive had them in the sun but they wont work. please help, thanks
A 2V battery designed for a current max of 200mA, can turn on a 2W lamp. If you want to turn on a 2V 200Watt lamp, you need a bigger battery capable of providing 6 amps!! Similarly the solar panel you have can produce a voltage, but when connected to a motor, the voltage might drop to much lesser value!! So apart from voltage you also need to know current taken by motor. Further, motors have a habit of not starting, but once prodded (mechanically rotate the shaft with hand), they may run. If you are in that border area, give a turn to the motor and see.
Q: How long does it take to recoup the investment in solar panels?
The time it takes to recoup the investment in solar panels varies depending on several factors, such as the cost of the panels, the amount of energy they generate, the electricity rates, and any available incentives or tax credits. On average, it can take anywhere from 5 to 15 years to recover the initial investment. However, with decreasing panel costs and increasing energy savings, the payback period is becoming shorter, making solar panels a more attractive and financially viable option for many homeowners and businesses.
Q: Can solar panels be installed on a government building?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on a government building. In fact, many governments around the world are actively promoting the use of renewable energy sources, including solar power, and are implementing solar panel installations on their buildings as part of their sustainability efforts. Installing solar panels on government buildings not only helps reduce carbon emissions and dependence on fossil fuels but also serves as a visible demonstration of their commitment to clean energy and environmental stewardship.
Q: Can solar panels be used to power an air conditioning system?
Yes, solar panels can be used to power an air conditioning system. The electricity generated by the solar panels can be used to run the air conditioning unit directly, reducing reliance on the grid and saving on electricity bills. However, the feasibility and effectiveness of using solar panels for this purpose may depend on factors such as the size of the solar panel system, the energy efficiency of the air conditioning system, and the availability of sunlight in the area.
Q: Ok so i have to solar panels to charge a battery however the panels hooked up in series does charge the battery very slowly because series connections only multiplies the voltage but leaves the current the same. Is there a way i can also hook both of them up in parallel at the same time to multiply the current for faster charge? I know i can do this with 4 panels but i dont want to spend extra. So is there a way to hook up 2 solar panels in series and parallel at the same time? Thanks in advace
No. You can only hook them up as one or the other. Attempting to do both would simply short circuit the panels and you'd get no output at all. Your panels should produce an open circuit voltage in full sun that is almost twice the voltage of the battery you want to charge (it's because solar panels produce the most power at their maximum power point, which is usually about 60% of the open circuit voltage). If a parallel connection does that, then use it, otherwise you'll need to use series. You didn't say what the capacity and voltage of the panels or the size of the battery was. It's quite possible you don't have enough panel - you need panels that will put 5% (at least) of the ampere hours capacity of the battery in as current. For example, if you have a 00 amp-hour battery, you'll need enough panel to put 5 amps in at the voltage of the battery. DK
Q: What would these solar panels power? For instance, my energy bill shows 2035kWh for last month. How much would this remove from that if it outputted full power? Thanks!
60 Watt Solar Kit 60 watts not much. Max. Power*: 60 Watts Voltage at Maximum Power (Vpm): 6.7 V Current at Maximum Power (Ipm): 3.30 A 0 or 20 of them plus inverter plus battery's not real viable I think how much energy was used in the manufacture of the cells, unfortunately a long way to go
Q: I need to know how solar photovoltaic panels work. Anyone have a good explanation?
Hey E Girl, photovoltiac panels are pretty simple. They start with a solid block of silicone, and shave thin layers off of them, called wafers. Once you have about 72 of them, you take half of them and dope them with boron, then the other half are doped with phosphorous. Once that's done, they take one each phosphorous and boron wafer, and glue them together with a special conductive epoxy glue, and attach a wire to each wafer. When the two glued wafers are exposed to the sun, a reaction occurs that forces free electrons from the silicone particles from one wafer onto the other, and a voltage is generated between them, about /2 volt to be exact. Once all 36 pairs are glued together, they are wired in series, connecting the phosphourous wafer from one to the boron wafer on the next, and so on. If you start with 72 wafers, you'll have 36 pairs glued together when you are done. At /2 volt each, that makes a 8 volt panel, which is used to charge a 2 volt battery. The charging source always has to have a few more volts than the battery. These 36 pairs of cells are then arranged on some kind of back board, glued down, covered with acrylic glass and mounted in a frame. There are some great websites you can go to for more info, I will list some below. Did you know that there are over 00,000 homes and businesses in the US alone that use some level of solar power to operate their electrical systems? That's good news. We actually live in one of those homes, it is powered by both the wind and sun and heated with solar and wood. I hope this answers your question, good luck, and take care, Rudydoo
Q: I have had this 2v portable Solar Panel for my apartment for awhile. Only problem is that I have no balcony and I can barely get enough sun to use it with my Cobra 450 400-800 watt outlet converter. Can someone advise me a better method to use these? Like do I have to get more 2v solar panels? I have a small apartment and use it on one window. Also is it possible for me to buy a portable storage tank to store the energy gathered from the sun by the solar panel?
portable storage tank would be lead acid batteries. Use only marine sealed type for safety, about $300 each. You will need a charge controller to control the charging of the batteries. If you don't get enough sunlight, then the only alternative (aside from using the roof) is to get more panels. .
Q: I have two solar panels and I have measured that they produce V by themselves. I am trying to generate .5V, but whenever I hook them up in parallel I get something like .02V. What it happening?
You are probably wiring them incorrectly: with the positive on panel A connected to negative on panel B; and the negative on panel A connected to the positive on panel B. If you want then connected in parallel, connect the positive on panel A to the positive on panel B and the negative on panel A connected to the negative on panel B. But you will only get vdc. You can't get .5 volts from two volt sources. You can get 2 volts by connecting the panels in series.
Q: Can solar panels be used to power a satellite?
Yes, solar panels can be used to power a satellite. Solar panels convert sunlight into electricity, which can then be used to power various systems and instruments on board a satellite. The panels are typically positioned in such a way that they can receive maximum sunlight and generate sufficient power to meet the satellite's energy requirements.
