- you can't physically insert Dell battery inside Compaq laptop.Period. If you're talking about AC-adapter(charger) then you MIGHT be able to do it but ONLY if the voltages are the same. Compare both AC adapters and see if the have the same input-output voltages AND amps.If no then do not even try it cz you might fry the whole laptop.

But the trade off is a bulky machine, with few Graphic's card options. For example The Alienware mx15-17, Has a more current card upgrade option Nvidia GTX 700m. But don't expect anything greater later. Awhile back there was a move to standardize Laptop Graphics cards. But with the trend to Ultrabooks, this stalled, as ultrabooks need to have integrated graphics to cut down on size. None of the nice Small Ultrabook type gaming laptops (i.e: Razer Blade) are upgradable.

- Toshiba easy. They last a lot longer and can take more of a beating. The back lights on HP tend to burn out faster like Acer. Also there are issues with the internal wireless on HP laptops. I would go with a Toshiba over even a Sony Vaio and that is saying something! Oh and stay away from Dells they are junk these days.
