Aluminium foil acts as a total barrier to light and oxygen (which cause fats to oxidise or become rancid), odours and flavours, moistness, and germs, it is used broadly in food and pharmaceutical packaging. The purpose of aluminium is to make long-life packs (aseptic processing|aseptic packaging) for drinks and dairy goods, which allows storing without refrigeration. Aluminium foil containers and trays are used to bake pies and to pack takeaway meals, ready snacks and long life pet foods.

Aluminium foil is widely sold into the consumer market, often in rolls of 500 mm (20 in) width and several metres in length. It is used for wrapping food in order to preserve it, for example, when storing leftover food in a refrigerator (where it serves the additional purpose of preventing odour exchange), when taking sandwiches on a journey, or when selling some kinds of take-away or fast food. Tex-Mex restaurants in the United States, for example, typically provide take-away burritos wrapped in aluminium foil.

Aluminium foils thicker than 25 μm (1 mil) are impermeable to oxygen and water. Foils thinner than this become slightly permeable due to minute pinholes caused by the production process.

Aluminium foil has a shiny side and a matte side. The shiny side is produced when the aluminium is rolled during the final pass. It is difficult to produce rollers with a gap fine enough to cope with the foil gauge, therefore, for the final pass, two sheets are rolled at the same time, doubling the thickness of the gauge at entry to the rollers. When the sheets are later separated, the inside surface is dull, and the outside surface is shiny. This difference in the finish has led to the perception that favouring a side has an effect when cooking. While many believe that the different properties keep heat out when wrapped with the shiny finish facing out, and keep heat in with the shiny finish facing inwards, the actual difference is imperceptible without instrumentation. The reflectivity of bright aluminium foil is 88% while dull embossed foil is about 80%.

We provide a full range of precision aluminum strip for almost any application. We produce aluminum strip in a wide variety of alloys, including clad composites. Our aluminum strip can be produced in standard dimensions or custom made to your special requirements. We produce both imperial and metric units. We manufacture in compliance with the main international specifications, and tighter tolerances or custom tempers are available upon request. We offer various surface conditions, custom finishes (painting, anodizing, embossing), special processing, and multiple packaging options to meet our customer's unique requirements. The following is a summary of our capabilities.

Manufactured in compliance with the main international specifications and standards, including: Aluminum Association, ASTM, EN, and DIN.
We can also manufacture in compliance with other international standards including:ASME, SAE, AMS, AWS, FED, MIL, QQ, ISO, BS, AFNOR, JIS and GOST.

Aluminium (or aluminum; see spelling differences) is a chemical element in the boron group with symbol Al and atomic number 13. It is a silvery white, soft, ductile metal. Aluminium is the third most abundant element (after oxygen and silicon), and the most abundant metal in the Earth's crust. It makes up about 8% by weight of the Earth's solid surface. Aluminium metal is so chemically reactive that native specimens are rare and limited to extreme reducing environments. Instead, it is found combined in over 270 different minerals. The chief ore of aluminium is bauxite.

Aluminium is remarkable for the metal's low density and for its ability to resist corrosion due to the phenomenon of passivation. Structural components made from aluminium and its alloys are vital to the aerospace industry and are important in other areas of transportation and structural materials. The most useful compounds of aluminium, at least on a weight basis, are the oxides and sulfates.

Despite its prevalence in the environment, no known form of life uses aluminium salts metabolically. In keeping with its pervasiveness, aluminium is well tolerated by plants and animals. Owing to their prevalence, potential beneficial (or otherwise) biological roles of aluminium compounds are of continuing interest.

Q: After you mix the recipe, you pour it into little 1-2 oz paper cups and insert a pic/spoonYou can then take this hardened mixture and place it in a cup of hot water and it will dissolve and you hve a great cup of hot chocolateI had this at Christmas and it was wonderfulDoes anyone know of the recipe for something like this.
If the teacher is willing to let you use some hydrochloric acid, you can show the metal-acid reaction that produces hydrogen gas.

Q: Is there any health advantage to using recycled aluminum foil in cooking?

There are no significant health benefits from using recycled aluminum foil for cooking. In fact, it is generally recommended to avoid using recycled aluminum foil due to potential contamination and the risk of introducing harmful substances into your food. Aluminum foil, whether recycled or not, is not designed for multiple uses as it can tear, contaminate food, and potentially leach aluminum into the food when heated. For health and safety reasons, it's best to use new, high-quality aluminum foil for cooking and food storage.

Q: Is it okay to use stainless, zinc coated steel, and/or brass compression fittings with aluminum tubing?
You may find the answer could vary depending upon the desired use for the tube and possibly its size and wall thickness.

Camping on your 21st? Why aren't you going to the bar?! I love hunting/camping/fishing/backpacking but hell, a 21st birthday.you'd have to be a communist not to go to the bar with your friends.
Q: It needs to be kind of easy?

On a lightly floured work surface, roll half of the dough into a 11 to 12-inch circle about 1/8 inch thickLine the pan with the dough and crimp the edgesChill the pie shell for about 30 minutes Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F Line the pie shell with aluminum foil and fill with dried beansBake the shell until golden brown, about 45 minutesRemove the foil and beans Meanwhile, make the Filling: Lower the oven to 325 degrees FIn a medium saucepan, mix together the pumpkin and sugarCook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until reduced and thick, about 15 to 20 minutesRemove from the heat and whisk in the cream, milks, vanilla, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, clove, salt, eggs, and yolkPour the filling into the pie shell and bake until set, about 45 to 55 minutesCool and serve
Q: for a 92 civic cx
To be completely honest with you, all short ram intakes are created equalThey're both similarly bent pieces of aluminum tubingOne may have a CARB approval (which if you're not in CA, it doesn't; matter)However they are the same, and to be honest not one is better than the otherOf the two you mentioned though, i'd go with whichever you can find cheapergood luck! hope this helps.
Q: I've got an aluminium case for some glass equipment and want to cut out spaces in the foam lining to keep the items secure? Can anyone please tell me how to do it to make it look tidy and proffessional? And make it function?Any links to instructions or clips would be very much appreiatedThanks.
If the pieces you want in the foam lining are rounded and you want round depressions, I am not sure how you would do thatIf you manage to pull the lining, or have additional foam to add, you can use a craft knife, scalpal looking thing, or a utility knifeUse the pieces as templates and draw around themIf there are two pieces of foam, and you have rounded stuff to put in, I would try to work out the flat stuff and hope the rounded edges of your stuff will compress the foam enough to give it a memory and hold it in placeOther than that, there are sewing electric scissors that could help.

Q: I did a little experiment where paper shapes could hold kilograms of weight, But then I looked next to me and saw a thing that holds a beaker above a Bunsen Burner and that could definitely hold much more weightThen I thought, what would be a metal equivalent of paper, of course foil came to mind.So of course paper could be stronger for a while but at what point would foil be stronger than paper.People use foil to wrap up their food because (one reason) it because it stays crumbled and is designed to crumblePaper unfolds itself so paper is stronger. What point?
By most definitions, I think aluminium is always stronger than paper.
