Q:i want to replace the radio in my 1996 saturn sl2. Do i really have to cut and splice wires? i heard that i can buy an adapter instead. And if so, where can i buy it? A website?
Saturns are very easy to upgrade. U can buy the adapter at walmart and radio shack. If u cut and slice every wire u will never finish putting in that stereo lol
Q:Can wiring harnesses for car stereos be re-used? If so, are they specific to the car, the stereo, or both? Right now I've got an older JVC stereo in my '01 Chevy Prizm (same as Toyota Corolla). I'd like to avoid having to buy a new harness, and one of the stereos I'm looking at is JVC. Thanks.
the wires can be reuse every thing unless they broken just add new ends or rewire ive never change mind wires come with the radio and speaker wire stay in car so really you dont have much to do but replace and rewire. shouldnt need to buy anything other than system
Q:I have a 1994 toyota pickup 2wd. Just recently it had a wire burn up on the wiring harness running to the alternator from the main harness. It burned the ground clean off the alternator the first time then I fixed the wiring and the second time it did it again but on the ground running to the fender but it was the same wire but on the other side of the plug in. When going down the road, the lights and radio would start skipping then the truck motor would start skipping also then just shut completely off. Thats where i found that wire burnt up. I can't fix it after two attempts. Please help
When a vehicle gets to around 15 to 20 years old is when wiring problems usually develop. The places that I would at look first are all the ground wires, ground to engine, engine to chassis, chassis to body, etc. As the ground wires on a vehicle get crusty with age you get bad connections (it's called resistance in the circuit), this will cause back feeds.and cause components to go haywire. This is what I would do, clean off the surface where the wire goes, make it shine and put a dab of never seize on it. Your ground connection at that point will last for many years. You will want to check the ground wires themselves, when they get old enough they can fall apart inside under the insulation. While your at it, also go over the positive side of the circuit like the battery cable to the starter solenoid where you have the positive feed connection for inside the cab. One more thing, pull the harness plug that goes into the firewall to see if your contact points are crusty and corroded. This is the best I can give you without looking at it, I think it will help you.
Q:for and aftermarket stereo in my car?my friend says he can install my stereo for me without one but it will take longer and is more difficult. also he says i wont be able to put my factory stereo back in again. is this true?
Very True. Your friend is right, and probably knows what he is doing. A wiring harness makes it a lot easier, especially when you sell your car and want to put your stock stereo back in. But unless you know what you are doing, always get a harness
Q:I installed new speakers and an amp and now my head unit does not work, I checked fuses and everything is still good. I disconnected some of the speaker wires from the wiring harness at the head unit and i'm wondering if that could be the reason it is not working.
Well make sure that you didn't accidentally disconnect the power cables to your head unit. I have done that and it took forever to figure out what happened. I cut the wrong wire on the harness and it didn't work. Check both your power connections and your grounding wires. When my head unit was installed they grounded the unit to a bad place and it cut out every once in a while. hope this helps.
Q:I was just getting ready to install my new stereo and found that I needed a wiring harness. I've installed stereos before but never one that required a harness. Anyway, I found that in some cases, there are some wires on the harness without a match on the stereo end. (ie. The orange/white wire is on the harness but not on the other end of the connection) My question is, does this matter? Can I just leave those un-wired?
Yup, some of those wires dont have matches for certain cars. ie. the dimmer or power antennae, ect.
Q:Hey there I was putting all the wires together and I ran into a couple of issues. The wires I have left from the Toyota harness end is Blue- Power AntennaBlack- Chassis Ground. (With this one I used a bypass system, and I was wondering if I need to connect this one to the body or can it just capped off? From the radios end I have a couple other wires sticking out. Violet/white- Of the two lead wires connected to the back lamp, connect the one in which the voltage changes when the gear shift is in reverse position. lt;--- I do not understand where to connect this. If someone could go into detail that would be great! even pictures :DYellow/black- If you use an equipment with mute function, wire this lead to the Audio Mute lead on that equipment. If not, keep the audio mute lead free of any connections. lt;--- do I just cap this one?The rest was easy thanks for the help!!!
The wiring harness is made by three company's and have three different numbers. It is made by metra and the number is 70-1761. It is made by American Internation and the number is TWH-950 or TWH-951. It is also made by scosche and the number is TA02B
Q:I have the alternator completely removed, with the exception of the wiring harness. The obvious way to remove it would be by pulling it out. The problem is that the wiring harness has no push in piece to release it from the alternator itself
Wire cutters!
Q:I have a 2006 subaru impreza. About a year ago, the headlight burnt out. I went to replace it and realized that it wasn't the headlight. It was the wiring harness/socket that had burnt up. So, I replaced it with a new harness. I used good waterproof connectors and all was well. This weekend, the light burnt out again. Once again, the bulb was fine. The harness was burnt up. Why is it doing this? Is there an easy way to fix it? I'm getting worried because I'm running our of slack wire to keep doing this.

Q:I tried to put a cd deck into my car but i got power and sound barely out of the passenger door speaker. My friend that helped me with it said just go get the wire harness and see how it works. could i do without the harness and just try to splice them together or not?
if you are a novice (it's okay to admit), then drop like 6 bucks on the harness and save yourself hours of research, trial and error. it is, of course, possible to not use the harness but if you choose to do so you are better off routing entirely new speaker wire to all your speakers and if you do that, you may as well get a four-channel amp and replace all of your stock speakers. it'll be about the same amount of work and sounds a million times better. trust me, though, just go get the harness.
