Q:I'd like to compete with Comcast. Anyone know where I can get some info on starting a cable company?
Most cable areas are held through contractual agreement with a local governing body. This allows them to use public right of way for access. Many cable companies utilize telephone poles for delivering their signal. This requires a contractual agreement with the telephone companies. Cable companies need to offer programming which involves negotiating with various media outlets. Comcast has a variety of services. To see what is involved on a small scale, go to Yahoo Finance and look up Charter Cable. You will find how many mega millions it would take to gain control over even a puny little company. If you are made at Comcast - and I think most of us would fall into that catagory periodically, write to the local governing authorities and explain your concerns. Be sure to cc: Comcast.
Q:I need to find out the advantages and disadvantages of overhead and underground cables please? The comparisons? Help would be appreciated
Underground cables are expensive. It is expensive to dig, and if you ever have to repair them, you have to dig up the whole section to find the break, etc. There is concern that living too near overhead power cables (don't know about telephone or cable TV), can cause health problems. Now-a-days, you often have to do underground cables in city neighborhoods, but your higher power lines (like 345 KiloVolt lines) tend to be overhead cables strung across areas that aren't too near to houses. The buried local neighborhood lines aren't typically buried because the power company wants to; they are buried because the city mandates it. In the country - isolated farm houses here and there, underground lines just aren't pratical. In cities, sometimes you can put the power lines through say some underground tunnels (like sewers - though not necessarily the sewers themselves). If the tunnels already exist, it may be only slightly more costly to put the power lines there, and really shouldn't cost more to maintain than overhead lines (as the lines are accessible to the crews - no digging in most cases).
Q:I mean seriously why does this faction of the government still exist, there still about 10 years behind the times and when ever a good movie come on cable it gets completely ruined. If you ask me the FCC should be disbanded and we create a new much much smaller entity that only governs electrical devices.
Why does the FCC kill movies on cable? Control Cant WE ban together and dismantle the FCC? No that's part of this government now its 100% untouchable
Q:I like to use DSR-DTR flow cotrol in one device and CTS-RTS flow control in another device and like to connect both. The important thing is that one system is DTE and another is DCE ie., straight cable is required. Thanks in advance.
this is a standard serial cable like you have in the back or your ps. pins 2/3/7 are the active pins but you need more if you use hardware flow control. it is easier, simple and better if you just use software flow control, assuming that is an option. What are you using this for and how fast do you need it to go? You can use a phone cord for simple pin 2/3/7 setup.
Q:Does any body know if there is a universal remote control that has the ability to turn a television on at a preset time? My Samsung in my bedroom of course is one of the few that doesn't have a built-in feature to turn itself on at a certain time.I figure that hey, there are (or were, at least) universal controllers that could be set to record programs on a VCR from a certain time, and to stop at another time, so why can't a remote turn on a TV?
that function has to built into the tv for it to work on a universal remote. Did you check the sleep function?sometimes its there or a function called timer.
Q:I recently purchase a curtis surround sound system. It has a subwoofer, and 5 speakers. However, for some reason, there is no volume control anywhere on the subwoofer, only the choice to switch between 2.1 and 5.1 surround sound. And the audio wires go in the back of the subwoofer. It came with a remote, but the remote only control's the dvd player volume. So basically, only things that have built in volume control, (Time warner cable box has its own remote so it works) can work, cause i can lower their volume with a remote, xbox 360's do not have volume remotes, lol, so they are too loud to use on the speaker system. Does anyone know of a way, to get around this problem? A way to either somehow control my subwoofer volume with a remote that i didn't know about, or a way to control the volume of everything plugged in wit some kinda gadget. thanks. If theres a non expensive way, let me know. lol
Funny thing i just bought the same unit @ 6th ave electronics 2 days ago on black friday for $48. and i have the same problem i also bought a hi-def apex and i can control the volume unless i'm using the dvd player for dvds only, i have direct tv box i tried hooking it up to the direct tv box but my remote does not control the volume the speakers are very loud, i don't think we have to buy an amplifier to my problem i think we need to bring the sound from the dvd player to the tv and from the tv to the curtis reciever this way the sound can be control from the tv whether the sound comes from the dvd player or the directv box. my problem with my apex tv i can figure out which is the sound in jacks and the sound out all i see is controller ypbpr and i have not yet set up one these. i'l keep you posted as soon as i get something going here feel free to email me for mutual help loukwon1@yahoo
Q:I figured out how to control the volume on the cable box using the cable remote; the volume will not go from low to high, however. Only on or off. Any help out there? Thanks!!
Try controling the volume from the TV base, just to make sure that it is not a problem with the tv itself. If it works, then you need a new remote. If it doesn't, it means that your cable box or tv set is defective. It is far more common to have a defective remote. If you manually installed your cable box, then order a new remote online. If you had a cable company (FIOS or CABLEVISON or something) then they should have tested the remote before they left. Just call them and you will get a new one for free, or for a minimal price.
Q:I forgot the code for my remote control that i have for my digital cable. How do i get the code without calling anyone to come and fix it? Is there a way to reset it or somethin?
1. What brand cable box do you have? (ex: motorola?) 2. What brand t.v. do you have. Ok then, I am assuming you are needing the cable box remote to control your t.v. (power, volume, etc.) correct? If so, try one of these codes for a Toshiba T.V. : 0154, 0156, 0060.
Q:Even when I don't have the heater turned on or when I have the air conditioning on, as soon as I turn the control to heat, it makes a thumping sound behind the controller. The air conditioning works, but the heater just blows out cold air. Does anyone know what the problem is?
starting with the heater control sound there are various boxes that are vacuum driven and when switching the positions etc the vacuum closes them and opens them. these use gates or doors. now on to heater non operation there is a valve in the engine compartment that has heater lines going to it. this valve also has a cable and often a vacuum line. the purpose of this valve is to regulate how much hot coolant passes into the heater system. the cable works like your kitchen faucet slowly opening a passage either fast or slowly. this part is called the heater control valve. it likely has frozen inside and not allowing water to flow. ps you might wish to go to an autoparts store and see what it looks like for your car so you can locate it. it is on the passenger side of the engine area.
Q:I purchased one that came with lifetime traffic updates. Well the cable went out first time we used it so I sent just the cable in under warranty. Delivery company lost it and Garmin wants to charge me 120 for a new cable. If I buy a cable on OKorder with a traffic reciever will it still get the lifetime traffic updates or is it cable specific?
Sad to say, the traffic subscription is tied to the traffic receiver, not to the GPS unit. You need to go after the shipping company to track down your shipment.
