Q:I was given a 8ft 8 in x 12 ft 2 in persian rug that is in superb condition. It is authentic, but can not find out how much it is worth. I know that it cost 2,000 dollars 30 plus yrs ago, but am clueless on what it would go for these days. Could anyone give me some advice on how to find it's worth. I was given it a couple yrs ago by a family member who had passed away, it was left to me in their will. I dont like the color or style, Im into more modern stuff and I am looking to sell it. Someone please help, I am desperate and dont want to get ripped off, or name the wrong price and come to find out later that its far more pricier that I originally thought.
have it appraised by an antique dealer.
Q:I have installed carpet by myself in two different rooms with nothing more than a razor blade. However, the room I intend to carpet next is a little bit larger and I will have to seam the carpet. I've never had to do that before. What equipment is absolutely necessary? Is doing the seam easy?
I've fixed up a few houses for extra money and always used same carpet guys. It looks like they use carpet tape and an iron. But I have seen the difference between they guys with and without experience. You might want to have someone take this room on for ya.
Q:I AM REPLACING CARPET IN MY HOME. ITS JUST MY WIFE AND ME. WE WANT GOOD CARPET, BUT I AM ALSO INTERESTED IN GETTING A GOOD VALUE. A BALANCE BETWEEN QUALITY AND PRICE. CAN SOMEONE HELP WITH GUIDELINES OR SUGGESTIONS ON CHOSING CARPET? THANK YOU
Price will tell you the quality. But in general look how thick it is. Thin carpets are usually not the best quality.
Q:Okay, so I'm being cheap! However, I saw these really cute pink shag area rugs on sale at Target this week. I need it to be larger than the 5 x 8, so I was thinking of somehow binding the two so I would have a 10 x 16. Does anyone know if this is possible? I don't want to use anything too gooey to join them because the rug will be going over hardwood floors. Let's hear some creative practical solutions that will work please!
You could probably sew them together with rug yarn that you can get in a craft store. Depending on what the backing of the rugs are made of, this might be difficult OR, they have iron on tape that is made just for rugs. I've never seen it in the stores but I've never really looked for it either. I did see them use it on a show on HGTV. You lay the rugs face down with the joining edges against each other on the floor, place the tape evenly along the edges you want to connect, and press with a hot iron. When the joined rugs cool, turn the piece over and comb back and forth with your fingers to hide any of the new seam that night be showing.
Q:I don't have a stitch of carpet in my house, but my floors always seem dirty, even 20 minutes after sweeping. Carpets or flooring, and why?
Well, at the moment it's going to take a LOT of sweeping to get my floors back to their original grey colour- they are covered in silt from the recent floods! We've got bare concrete floors with area rugs. We'd been saving to put down linoleum floors because carpet is an absolute nightmare to clean when a flood comes through! We'd had carpet last lot of floods and just ripped it up because we couldn't get the mud out of it. At least hard floors you can just hose them down!
Q:I dropped small spots of bleach on my carpet. Does anyone know where I can purchase dye for carpet?
We have a large selection of carpet bleach spot repair dye pens and color dye chemicals.
Q:A pen broke open on the carpet and without my knowledge, my dad went and sprayed rubbed it with Windex which I'm pretty sure it made it worst. I looked online and tried using hairspray and vinegar water but it hardly helped. Should I try nail polish remover or baking soda? Please help!
Try nail polish remover, Warning it will look worst before it gets better!!! What I do is get nail polish and paper, towels cotton balls etc...and pour so nail polish remover then dab dab dab....throw cotton balls away when they are used up and get a new one...it will take a while but it should work...
Q:I spilled some dark nail polish on a beige carpet. The polish has hardened making it almost impossible to come out. I've tried nail polish remover, carpet cleaner, bleach and even bathroom cleaners and I don't know what else to try or maybe a different brand?
that is handy, nail polish remover. get the style with out lanolin, if u can, however any style will paintings. pour a few remover on an historic rag, paintings in circles from the external inward. maintain operating w/ contemporary remover until u get all of it, then use a bit diluted dishwashing liquid in sizzling water and a scrub brush. consider the cleaning soap u r leaving within the carpet from the dishwashing liquid is similar to carpet shampoo, and can depart a place for you to draw in a bit grime, if u do not get so much of it out. inform the carpet purifier subsequent time u have it wiped clean, so he can extract that spot good, with blank water, or do it urself with a condo unit, like from wally international. consider, carpet is close to indestructable, so do not fear an excessive amount of
Q:have stains on my living room carpet wanted to now ways to clean stains that happen on a carpet that are hard to remove and get the stains cleaned and how to clean lots of other carpet stains if were to happen carpets are hard to clean and would like to now in ands out of cleaning carpet stains in the futer stain I may need to clean
Well...are they pet stains? Old or new? If they are old pet stains, it might be difficult to remove. For any type of carpet cleaning, it's best to purchase cleaner designed for your type of stain. For instance, there are cleaners created to treat and clean cat urine stains. These would be found in your stores pet/cat section and the household cleaning section. Once you get the proper cleaners, keep them on hand for the future accidents! When cleaning fresh accidents, remember to use paper towels to blot/soak up as much liquid as possible. Use the carpet cleaners according to their directions. If you have a Wet/Dry Vacuum, use that to extract the cleaner from the carpet. If worse came to worst, you might want to have the carpets professionally cleaned. For cats...please make sure you have a good litter pan that is large enough for your cat and use good litter...my cat responds well to the Tidy Cat brand. Good luck!
Q:I am painting my room a pale orange, and it has bright yellow accents. What color rug would look really good? I can't do white because it would look too dirty. Thanks!
Hi Claire, In choosing a Rug which lasts approx 10 years or more I would suggest that in this case you choose a neutral color. I realize many may think that Tan, Taupe or Light Gray. are a safe choice and so basic. But with that said Carpeting can expensive. Changing the Wall Paint is far more cost effective. In the future, you may decide to use another wall color paint in the room. Tan, Taupe or Light Grey would be my thoughts for you ! * All of the above mentioned colors come in a variety of many shades. I also suggest taking a Paint chip with you to the store for comparisons if you are concerned. Tan/Taupe will provide an earthy color to the room, while Gray colors are visually cool color. Happy Decorating !
