Q:I have started a wood splitting/hauling business and so far business is great. Problem is it would be even better if I could find where to get an electronic brake control module for my truck. My trailer is equipped with electronic brakes but my truck does not have the module or wiring harness. Where can I find this and roughly how much will it cost me? I have 2, possibly 3, cords going out tomorrow and would like to have this hooked up before delivery. Thank you.(I live in Waldo, OH so if you would like wood delivered to you in a surrounding area please get in touch with me. Thank you, Brandon)
A trailer dealership will have such things. I know because I work at one. I recommend a Tekonsha Prodigy brake controller. They work great and have a lifetime warranty. That will run you anywhere between $90-$150. Now, for the rest of it there are a few things you need to look for. The first thing to do is see if the truck came with a towing package. If it did, then there should be a factory wiring harness installed on the truck. The harness will run from the front to back and may or may not have a 7-way receptacle under the bumper. If there is a 7-way and it has the vehicles brand name on it, then you have a harness and all you need is the controller and maybe the controller harness that fits your truck (if you don't have the factory supplied harness in the glove box). Otherwise you might have to crawl under there and look for the harness. If there is a harness but no 7-way then you will need that also. If there is no factory harness under there, then you will have to run 2 wires from the front of your truck to the back and splice in the rest of the wires, both on the controller and at the back. I would not recommend doing this yourself. It's not too complicated but it takes a few hours and can be very frustrating. The best thing to do is find a trailer dealership with a repair shop. They will have everything you need and can do the work too. Yes it will cost alot more but they will know what needs to be done and can do it in probably 2.5 hours (complete wiring), 30 min (if you just need a controller), 1 hour (controller and receptacle only). A truck equipment shop may also be able to do this. Sorry if this was confusing, but that's why most people just have the work done. There are so many variables. Best of luck with your business!
Q:I have a 2008 VW jetta I'm about to rip out the stock stereo and plug in my after market DVD/CD player it's a single din yadda yadda yadda, but I cannot find the wire harness to fit it anyone know where to order one or which one to use?
CHECK ADVANCED AUTO PARTS OR PEPBOYS
Q:does it or does it only need to be specific to the stereo please explain
You never need to spend that much for wire. If the unit came with wires, they will be adequate. I believe what you are witnessing is marketing psychology from companies that tout such ridiculous features as oxygen-free copper and low inter-lead capacitance, none of which produce any audible difference - PERIOD. I even saw one of these shysters advertising that their wire was burned in by running current through it for some period of time. I work in the electronics industry and while there are plenty of reasons to burn in an electronic device (i.e. solid-state circuitry w/other active/passive components), there is absolutely no value to burning in wire.
Q:I have a Chevrolet silverado z71 it's a 2006 I have a problem with a fuse burning out everytime I change it . It controls the power heated seats the passenger windows . I know what fuse it is I just need some pointers on ways i can try to fix this problem
Does the fuse blow as soon as you replace it or as soon as you turn on the ignition switch? If it's as soon as you replace it, I think I would be looking at the power seat circuit. Check the wiring harness near where the power seat controls are. See if you can disconnect the harness going to the controls, then try replacing the fuse again. If the fuse blows when the switch is turned on look at the power window, particularly in the area of the door hinge. The maybe a connector under the dash near the door. Hope this helps a little.
Q:i have a 1992 honda prelude with a swapped engine and i need to redo the wiring harnes is it easy to put one in by myself or how should i go about doing this please help.
Each car has its own wire harness created for it on a custom-made basis. The harness essentially connects two types of essential things between electronics and the car itself. If you can not find the correct replacement part and you are technically knowledgeable, you may be able to recreate one yourself or purchase one that can me made to fit your specific year and model of car. If not, a trusted mechanic can handle it plus you will be confident that the wiring portion of your vehicle is correct. If your engine is not wired correctly you may have continual problems that will drive up the costs of car ownership quickly.
Q:Hello, I am fixing up alot of my old cars electrical systems. So far I got everything taken apart just fine. I have a 1987 Chevy Celebrity with its stock stereo. I am trying to prepare it to get a new system in there. I am however not too knowlegable when it comes to the harness' that connect the stereo system all together. The connections it has are the regular power connection. in the corner 3 small connectors one on top of the other, and on the other side of it another small connector by itself. Is there any guides or anything I use to figure out how to convert thiss orr?thanks, any help will be greatly appreciated.
The small white connector has the constant power wire (orange) and an illumination wire (dark brown). The black connector has the key-switched power (yellow), ground wire (black), and another illumination wire (gray). It may also have a power antenna wire (pink). The white 4-pin connector has the front speaker wires. Left positive (tan), left negative (gray), right positive (light green) and right negative (dark green). The blue connector has the rear speaker wires. Left positive (brown), left negative (yellow), right positive (dark blue) and right negative (light blue). The thick black wire is an AM/FM antenna plug. You can purchase a wire harness adapter that fits all the power/speaker plugs. The Metra part number is 70-1677.
Q:I am wanting to buy this d16y8 vtec motor and tranny from this guy for 350 dollars but he said he doesnt have the wiring harness. what is that and will it cost a lot?
A wiring harness is a bunch of wires that run out of a piece of equipment such as stereos, transmissions. steering columns etc. It typically has a plug on the end that plugs into another plug and makes the part work. Without it you have to splice wires from the transmission to the various places it needs to go. Such as but not limited to sensors and the computer.
Q:if a car stereo rca ports but my car doesnt have rca wires will it work off just the wire harness?I got a 94 camaro no stereo antenna wires modded idk about harness no ine has helped me on here so id apperciate some advice!! Thanks!!!
I don't understand your question. Most after-market car stereos have speaker outputs (in the wire harness) and RCA outputs. If you're connecting your car speakers directly to the new stereo, you use the speaker outputs. If you're using a separate amplifier to drive the speakers, you use the RCA outputs for the connection between the head unit and the amp. You can use both outputs if you want; ie, drive four speakers with the head unit's outputs and a subwoofer with a separate amp. However, if you aren't using any other amplifier, you don't normally have to connect anything to the RCA outputs.
Q:I have a 95' Silverado K1500 (4x4) with a 4L60-E transmission and 5.7L engine that is in need of a wiring harness. I have quite a bit of blood, sweat, and tears tied into it (along with money) and I'm not going to give up on it. Besides, it's my only hope for getting back and forth to school. I'm thinking about getting a C1500 for a parts truck. The problem is that it has the 4.3L V6. If I use the E.C.M. from my truck, will the harness work?
No, it won't work at all. Why do you need a new wiring harness though?
