Q:My girlfriend and I recently moved into a house that we recently purchased. The bathroom sink is extremely clogged...to the point that a decent strength snake cannot begin to break through. The clogging is probably a long standing build up of hair, etc. Is there a liquid that can eat through it perhaps or maybe something better than a metal snake that will clear it? We can't really afford to have a plumber come in right now, and so I want to get this cleared myself. Thanks in advance!
Just use Toilet Ninja
Q:Is there any easy trick to prevent a cat from peeing in a bathroom sink? I have 2 cats and I don't know which one does it and I don't want to have to punish both. Thanks.
Most cats do not like the smell of citrus. The oil from the peel is particularily annoying. Take lemon, lime or orange peel, and make some zest and rub it vigorously into a cloth or towel and leave it in the sink everyday for about two weeks. This should imprint on the offending cat, and hopefully he/she will no longer want to use your sink as a litter box. Try to remember to keep the door closed. Lots of luck.
Q:My wife lost a necklace down the bathroom sink. I took off the trap (which was quite a pain) and got out the necklace. Now as I am trying to replace the parts I realize I can not replace them because all the parts are rusty and corroded. Is it easy to go get some plastic PVC pipe and replace the trap or should I get a plumber to redo the whole thing from the wall to the sink. I know virtually nothing about plumbing so I don't want to screw up and have water running in the walls and fill my wals with mold, etc.
I really hate to disagree with a 40 year plumber, but I've changed dozens of these things and far and away, the majority of them were a snap. It's rare that the tailpiece, (the pipe that's actually connected to the bottom of the sink), goes bad, so odds are you're going to need at least the trap portion of the drain line. If you're working inside a vanity, then you really don't have much room, but should be able to remove the pipe that either goes into the wall or straight down into the floor, along with the trap itself. If it goes into the wall, you need a P trap, if it goes to the floor it's called an S trap. Most bath sinks use 1 1/4 pipes for drains, however, sometimes they go into 1 1/2 pipes before they get to the wall or floor. In that case the nut that tightens to the drain line usually has a larger tapered washer included in the set, which you would use at that point. Get PVC, don't use brass. It's much less expensive and will last forever. You can see what happens to brass when exposed to lime and calcium, crud and corrosion. If you're not real sure about your project, take a picture and take it along with you to the hardware store. Show it to one of the employees and they should be able to help you find what you want and even show you how to put it together.
Q:My bathroom sink fills up very quickly and takes a long time to drain, plus there is a foul, sewerage smell when it overflows. i have also noticed a 3 diameter pipe in my backyard that is uncovered. Should it be covered? Is that why im getting the foul smell inside? And how do i fix my sink so that it doesn't overflow? Any help is kindly appreciated!
bathroom sinks usually plug up with hair. take a wire hanger, and form a small hook on the end, and fish out the hair balls/soap scum. once you have removed the debris, you can plunge the drain. be sure to cover the little vent hole in basin near the top on the sink when you use a plunger. I have no idea what the pipe in the back yard, has to do with your sink troubles.
Q:Ive poured pounds of food particles down my kitchen sink, and I dont even have a in-sink grinder, and the sink never clogs. But one well-timed dump can clog the toilet like that. Why is that?
its true, hair etc, are the main culprits of stoppages in the bathroom, but remember, the difference between the kit & bath are open drains in the kitchen and a waterdrain stopper in the sinks in the bathrooms. the stoppers hang down into the trap area and usually catch hair etc and tend to clog it more often than the kitchen and open drains. note: just remove the stopper from the drain and clean the hair off the stopper every other month or sooner if necessary. clean the trap too. as for your toilet, they do not have traps in the lines...they are in the toilets themselves. lnote: if you are getting stoppage in the 3-4 lines for your sewer b4 it hits your kitchen sink area, its because you either have roots growing in the lines and the line may have cracked and therefore allowing the roots to penetrate the lines and when the waste is furthered with the toilet paper it grabs on to the roots and clogs the lines.. upled with the hair etc going down the bath sink; its a traffic jam. remedy: you need to roto-root the lines between the kitchen and the bathroom area. !!! if you notice a wet spot or lots of green grass growing outside the home in a particular spot, that may be the spot where the line is broken and you need to dig it up and repair the line.
Q:I have tried metal hanger wire but nothing comes out and I have tried drano.
There's a liquid unclogger sold in supermarkets. In the Philippines, we call it liquid sosa. It's very effective. Before you put the chemical make sure that your sink has been drained thoroughly. Put around 250ml of the chemical and wait for 15 minutes. It usually dissolves hair, grime and grease.
Q:There is no width of 30 cm wash basin cabinet
Of course not, wash basin is generally 55 width. Pots are generally the smallest 35
Q:What is the main wall of the bathroom?
The main wall of the bathroom is not necessarily put basin, which according to your own decoration layout, if your home basin is embedded, then there is a base, the base you can pick their own position, but to look at the base of the long, width. If your pot is not embedded, but fixed on the wall, then the single wall fastness is enough, do not have to be the main wall.
Q:What should I pay attention to when buying pots?
You have to look at the location of the installation of the faucet is convenient, this is very important, sometimes not very good, there will be leakage of the situation, my home is the German treasure brand, they are in this design is not bad, very human The
Q:Am at wits end. Probably have to call a professional. The rubber seal on this Delta faucet is almost non-existent and somewhat leaking but not profusely Someone had suggested unscrewing the 2 faucets, did that, but then what next? The faucet itself is intact to the sink. Why did someone think it would lift out? It does not.The only way to get to it is from underneath and it is very tight space, the vanity is very small. The sink is in the way so I can't even see the underneath of the faucet itself from inside the cabinet, it is way back and like I said, the space is very very small. Looks like the sink probably has to be removed first? Such a pain for such a small job.Thank you.
The faucet is held on by 2 flat plastic nuts on the underside of the sink. The area is tight but they are changed every day.I would just buy a new faucet instead of trying to repair the old one as it is not easy to rebuild one and it may still leak after you try to repair it.
