There are a lot of variable to this question. First, labor rates are very dependent on where you live (city/state). Is it a pedestal sink or one with a vanity cabinet? If it is a vanity, is it a drop in or under mount sink? There is also the question of size. There really is no standard, as sinks are made different sizes to fit in different spaces. A pedestal sink will generally cost a little more in both labor and for the sink itself. I would love to give you an idea of cost, but with so little information, I'd hate to give you bad information. Your best bet would be to call around to a couple local plumbing shops and have them come out and give you an estimate. A lot will do this at no cost to you, and should be able to bring out some catalogs of different sink and faucet styles for you to look and and decide what you'd like. This will also give them a chance to look and see if there are any additional obstacles that would change the cost of the job (shut off valves that don't work, and other piping issues). FYI, the shop I work for has a rate of $160/hr for labor. In your local area this may be different, and will affect the cost. Plumbing rates across the country fluctuate A LOT. Call around for rates.

Q:My bathroom sink seems to smell regardless of what you dump down it. The bath drain is fine along with all the rest of the drains in the house besides the bathroom sink drain... Install the stopper in the sink. Add one cup of bleach to the sink. Run water, slowly to prevent splashing, and allow the water to run into the overflow hole of the sink. Keep running the water until the bleach smell is gone. Before doing this, make sure your sink has an overflow hole, as some of the newer sinks do not. Many times, the smell is caused by mold or other bacteria in between the sink body. This is where the bleach water will go, and then through the drain piping. It will take care of either odor problem.

Q:I just found the cabinet underneath my bathroom sink to be completely soaked and this is the second time its happened, first time was a couple months ago. After first time, I shut off both valves and checked all the fittings and nothing seemed to be leaking. I turned the water back on and everything was fine. However, today I came to find the same thing happen. I've shut the water off again at this point, but I'm guessing none of the fittings have a normal. Could there be some sort of back up in the pipes?? I'm in Ohio so it is fairly cold right now and was also a couple months ago. Possible that something is freezing slightly and backing up the system?
