- Q: My hubby and I are waiting to move in to our camper but have to figure out how many solar panels, batteries, etc. to get. I can't find the info per appliance for Watts and amps, but does anyone have a good, general idea of how many Watts it'd take to run the whole shabang? It's a 999, 25-foot Sportsmen tag-a-long, if that helps..It's got the following, and we'd like to run the propane things off of electric:*Refrigerator/freezer*Microwave*Oven/stove*AC/Heat*Will have a tv, phone chargers, laptop charger, but those will be unplugged when not in useThanks so much! It's such a headache.. You get SO MUCH different info from different places.. OI..
- With an RV, you can find lithium bromide water chiller based refrigerators and air conditioner that run mostly on propane with just a little bit of electricity for a pump and fans. The oven, stove and heat, you can also run off propane. A Microwave is probably 750 watts but only operates for a few minutes at a time. You'll just have to go through everything item by item and figure out how many watts each one will draw and how long each will run per day to size your solar panel. Don't forget that the sun will only shine for a few hours each day. In general, for a camper, the target isn't to produce all the power you need but to slow down the drain on the battery bank to last till you get back onto the road where the engine can recharge the batteries. Keep in mind that the lithium bromide chiller systems only operate when stationary and level so some people opt for conventional electric systems just for convenience which sounds like what you're trying to do. Best way to figure out how much power each is drawing is by measuring it while in use. It may be worth it to put a meter on the battery bank and go camping one weekend with a generator or put a meter on the main circuit breaker panel and camp where power is provided, just to see what your typical use is. You're far better off running as much as possible from propane.
- Q: I have 2 solar panels one is 5 watts 2 volts .2 amps or -The other is 50 watts 2 volts 2.6 amps or-Can I ...and what is the best way to hook them togeather to increase my amps being put back to my battery ?? I would be hooking them up to a 7 amp 00 watt charge controllerThe panels are rated 2 volt but the specs say they will produce more whennot connected to charge controllerPlease advise and should I even bother with the smaller panel ?
- The answer is that the two panels should be put in parallel. The voltage out will drop to the voltage of the lower panel, but you should get most of the power, if the panels aren't too badly mismatched. I would try to get a multimeter and try to measure the actual current coming out of the panels in full sun. Sometimes the specifications on these smaller panels are very optimistic. If the whole setup is putting out less than 2 amps, I'd say wire the whole thing straight to the battery - little chance of boiling the electrolyte at those currents.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on schools or educational campuses?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on schools or educational campuses. In fact, many educational institutions are increasingly adopting solar energy as a sustainable and cost-effective solution to meet their power needs. Installing solar panels on schools not only reduces electricity costs but also serves as an educational tool, allowing students to learn about renewable energy and environmental sustainability firsthand.
- Q: How do solar panels affect the property's energy management system?
- Solar panels can significantly impact a property's energy management system by generating clean and renewable electricity. They reduce the reliance on traditional power sources, thereby lowering energy costs. Solar panels also allow for greater control over energy production and consumption, enabling property owners to better manage their energy usage and potentially even sell excess electricity back to the grid.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on schools or universities?
- Yes, solar panels can definitely be installed on schools or universities. In fact, many educational institutions are taking advantage of solar energy to reduce their carbon footprint and save on energy costs. Solar panels can be easily installed on rooftops or open spaces within the campus, providing clean and renewable energy for various electrical needs of the school or university.
- Q: I want to use this solar panel to hook up AC adapters. IM not sure what to do and how to use the solar panel. I want to be able to use a batter charger, a radio, and charge a GPS if needed. - Thanks, Zoo
- Research using solar panels on stock tank water pumps. Same concept - you use a solar panel to power a remote something or other, only you would have to use a battery charged by day to run the camera at night. It does not look like you would need too powerful of a solar panel, the camera server says it needs less than 5w, no idea on the cameras, so check that out, but the whole system looks rather low power. You could easily get the necessary panels, maybe the battery too, for... I would say $200 (not in one package, you would have to get separate things). Connection of everything would be simple, no electrician needed (but keep that to yourself, depending upon state rules and regs).
- Q: What do these mean? I'm interested in doing a solar panel project. The problem is I know nothing about electricity, wiring, or panels so I've bought a small panel to experiment with first.I don't know what amps, watts, or volts are; what I should be reading on the batteries I will be charging? Or on the small appliances I will be running? The panel I bought has four settings:. 3V ---- 200mA2. 6V ---- 00 mA3. 9V ---- 50mA4. 2V ---- 50 mA(What is mA?)Also, will you give examples of what I can run with this? Make up any scenarios with whatever amps/volts/watts.
- mA means milliamps, i.e. 200 mA is the same thing as .2 amps. Amps refers to current and is the unit of measure for electrical current... Anyway, my point is, you are NOT going to be running ANY small appliance with a single solar cell. You might be able to run a small device that would normally run with a battery, but that is about all.
- Q: Okay, I think I understand what I'm doing, but I want to set up some solar panels on the roof of my garage, the building that gets the most sun, and I want to make sure all my math is correct in determining number of megawatts per year. However, my knowledge of electrical terms in quite n00bish, to say the least. Here is what I think I should be doing. The solar cells come at .75 Watts average power.I will install 4 panels of 64 cells each, with a total of 256 cells.
- For comparison, 36 of these make a normal 2V x 50W panel. Note they are not tabbed. This means you have to find a way to connect them yourself. The tabs are probably spot welded on by the suppliers. A supplier below has kits of these with tabs, as needed to connect them together. These are not suitable for grid connect, because the higher voltage needed makes do it yourself panels a dangerous and litigious thing to have on your roof. Maybe you could buy a smaller pack from the link below to compare tabbed and untabbed and work out what to do. Your power calculation is a bit incorrect because the sun is only present some of the time. The 36 cell module would produce 50W when square on to the full sun. The sun may be out for around 2h a day in some places and times of the year. However it is the equivalent of 5h full sun, because of the changing angle throughout the day. Look this up on the internet for your region. Temperate zones may be a lot less. One pack in your link is 36x3 = 08 cells. Thus 50W per pack x 5h a day gives 750Wh per day and 274KWh/y. In reality it will always be less because of regions, weather, clouds, dust, inefficiencies, aging of cells.
- Q: Dont/Cant work alone?when you buya asolar panel you mUST GET bATTERIES, voltage regulators and many else stuff?cant they just work directly? or can i use normal batteres like Car batteries? The one who Really knows 0 pts. thanks
- You do not need batteries unless you want power at night, you don't need a regulator unless you'll be using your panels to power anything other then what the voltage of the panels is (ie 2v panel = 2v llight bulb) 3.You can use them directly or you can use car batteries (though deep cycle batteries are better).
- Q: I am heading to Nepal and do not want to lose power on my cameras but they can only be charged via quot;plugging inquot;. A USB connection does not work. Looking for a solar panel to clip to my bag or carry that I can plug in the charger as if plugging in to wall outlet. Thanks.
- Solar panels require a charge converter before it can be used by an AC source. There is no direct solar panel with built in charge converters that I know of because, when purchasing panels, you must purchase the wattage requirements of the job (this can be several panels linked), and a charge converter that will handle the <? panels required. A chain of stores up here in Canada have a portable battery pack that has a solar panel to increase its charge capacity or duration, but its not something you would want to lug around for long periods of time, because is weights in about 3 lbs.
