- Q: Can solar panels be used in combination with other renewable energy sources?
- Yes, solar panels can indeed be used in combination with other renewable energy sources. Many renewable energy systems today incorporate a mix of solar panels, wind turbines, hydropower, and geothermal energy to maximize efficiency and ensure a reliable and sustainable power supply. This combination of different renewable sources allows for a more balanced and consistent energy generation, reducing reliance on a single source and increasing overall system resilience.
- Q: Well I was thinking about the idea of renovating either a smaller school bus or building a tiny house and I was wondering if i can get some information on the size and watts panel should I use or more like how to get that whole solar energy in motion. Any infor and links would help
- I think that typical solar panels are 2'x4' and produce something like 800-000 wh per day. (That's 0.8 - kwh per day.) More in the summer, less in the winter, if they're aimed sort of at the sun. There are newer, more expensive panels that produce more. There are also thin film panels that are less expensive, and probably more sturdy. You then have a couple choices. In a house, you'd have an expensive inverter to connect to the utility power, so you can have power at night when your panels aren't generating anything. In a trailer, you want 2-4-6 deep cycle car batteries to store the power. Then you could have an inverter to convert that power to 20v AC, so you could use normal appliances. Or, you could buy appliances that run on 2 volts DC. Maybe a combination of both. You'll need to figure out how much power you're going to use, so you know how many panels and batteries you're going to need. The calculation is easy. Figuring out how much power you need is hard. You need deep cycle batteries because you can repeatedly charge them way up and run them way down. Ordinary batteries die fairly quickly when you do that.
- Q: Are solar panels easy to maintain?
- Yes, solar panels are generally easy to maintain. They have no moving parts and require minimal upkeep. Occasional cleaning to remove dust and debris is recommended, and regular inspections to ensure proper functioning are necessary. However, overall, the maintenance requirements for solar panels are quite low compared to other energy systems.
- Q: Are there any fire risks associated with solar panels?
- Yes, there are some fire risks associated with solar panels, although they are relatively rare. The main causes of fire incidents include faulty installation, poor maintenance, electrical malfunctions, and extreme weather conditions. However, the risk can be significantly minimized through proper installation, regular inspections, adherence to safety codes, and using high-quality components. Additionally, advancements in technology and industry regulations continue to enhance the safety of solar panel systems.
- Q: How do solar panels affect the electrical grid?
- Solar panels affect the electrical grid by supplying clean and renewable energy. When solar panels generate excess electricity, it can be fed back into the grid, reducing the overall demand for fossil fuel-based power generation. This helps to stabilize the grid and reduce carbon emissions. However, the intermittent nature of solar power can create challenges for grid operators in managing variations in supply and demand.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on a parking lot or carport?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on a parking lot or carport. In fact, these locations are ideal for solar panel installations as they provide ample space and can generate clean energy while also providing shade and protection for vehicles. This dual-purpose approach helps maximize the benefits of solar energy and optimizes land usage.
- Q: Am using 800watts sukam inverter and have 55watts panel. What controller can i use to connect my solar system to have a max power . Already i have 200 Amp/hr battery

- Q: I am interested in solar energy, but am not sure how eficiant it would be in the northwest? Any comments would be apriciated.
- Are solar panels a good thing to do for the environment? - Yes. Can you recoup the cost your investment in the solar cells/panels in any reasonable amount of time in Seattle? - most likely - not. I know it's been a miserable spring in Seattle, but, I think we got 3 sunny days last month. With the number of cloudy/rainy days here, solar will only really benefit you in June, July, August and September. There are two kinds of solar panels - electric or water based. The electrics - photovoltaics - are costly to purchase and it's difficult to store the electricity once you make it. A water heater type solar panel initially cost less and can provide some benefit even on partly cloudy days. I have even seen instructions on how to build your own (if you are frugal and handy) I just do not think it's worthwhile in Seattle - if it was Denver or Phoenix we were talking about - then it would be a different story.
- Q: Can solar panels be installed on a theme park or amusement park?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on a theme park or amusement park. In fact, many theme parks around the world have already installed solar panels to generate clean and renewable energy. This not only helps to reduce their carbon footprint and dependence on fossil fuels but also saves them money on electricity bills in the long run. Additionally, solar panels can be integrated into the design of the park, complementing its aesthetic appeal and showcasing the park's commitment to sustainability.
- Q: For example, If I were powering my house with solar panels, would it be more efficient or effective, (or I guess would I get more energy) out of a day that measured 90 degrees Fahrenheit as opposed to a day that is 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
- If you are talking about solar PV (photovoltaic), panels, (these are the solar panels that generate electricity), temperature DOES effect the power output. But it works opposite of your example. They actually work better in cooler temperatures. In other words, you will get more electricity on a cold, sunny day than you will on a warm, sunny day. The difference is not huge. It is a percentage point or two for every ten degrees cooler it is. But it is significant enough that solar system designers like myself need to know the temperature fluctuations in the area we are designing for. I know of a few improperly designed systems that were damaged on sunny winter days. Solar thermal panels (the ones that heat water) do not work this way. A warmer sunny day is usually better, but again, the difference is not huge.
