- Q: What is the payback period for solar panels?
- The payback period for solar panels refers to the time it takes for the savings from reduced energy bills to equal the initial investment in installing the solar panels. The payback period can vary depending on factors such as the cost of the panels, the amount of sunlight in the location, and the local electricity rates. On average, the payback period for solar panels is around 5 to 10 years, but it can be shorter or longer depending on these factors.
- Q: Where can I find updated info about solar panels for home?
- It depends on what type of solar panels you are looking for. PV panels for electricity or heating panels for hot water. For more info about hot water heating panels, check out my source.
- Q: The Physics club in our school is trying to convince the Board of Ed to install solar panels in our school, and i was just wondering if anyone with some experience or real expertise in solar energy. I need some points about their usefulness some real pros and cons on maintenance, etc. Anything will help. Personally i would be perfectly for the idea, but i heard that the overall cost of installing them is much higher than the cost of the energy saved and government subsidies, but ive only heard about this.
- Cuts Costs over time
- Q: I have noticed how solar panels cause a glare. Since I am not around solar panels all the time I relate it to when the sun reflects off another car and right into my eyes. So I always wonder if solar panels effect birds and/or animals due to the glare. If I am wrong and solar panels aren't this bad please tell me.
- No, they don't solar panels are harm less to the enviroment. They take in light energy, nothing else. So you don't have to worry about injury!
- Q: I need to reduce the average monthly home electricity bill by powering some of the household appliances using solar panels. Can I use a 250 watt solar panel to power a medium sized upright fridge?
- Well you might reduce your bills, but you wont get your capital back for many years. Do you have LED lighting, I have, every-time one of my compact flourescent bulbs blew I would replace it with an LED, after two years most of my lighting is LED, a good investment I think. What devices do you have, heating and cooking is better with gas (much cheaper) Think about better insulation for wintertime.
- Q: Any feedback on solar panels?
- I have been totally solar for 4 years with the occasional use of a generator on rainy days which was only 6 hours last year. Understand that I live full time in an RV and power usage is much less than a conventional home. I do not have the need for air condition because I move with the climate. I have a propane refrigerator, stove, furnace and water heater. My solar system consist of 2 Kyocera Panels that produce 7.5 amps 7.5 volts DC and 35 Watts each a Blue Sky Energy 2000E Booster controller/charger with 4 Interstate 2200 6 Volt Golf Cart Batteries with a total of 450 amp hour storage and a 500 Watt Inverter. Kyocera gives the most bang for the buck. Total Cost: 2,00.00 Professionally Installed. This system provides more than an ample supply of AC and DC power and has paid for itself three fold.
- Q: I live in Los Angeles area, I see the ads that, they will install solar panel for $0. I would like to know what is the catch ?Thanks You.
- The catch is you pay a monthly electric bill to the company that installed it. There are a couple ways to pay for solar power. One way is to pay the full cost of installing it then get all the power it makes at no cost. The other way is they install it for free and they become like a second power company. You pay them for the solar power and still pay your electric utility for any power from their generator that you use. The idea (usually a promise) is that the monthly rate will be lower than the power company charges. I would prefer to pay the full cost of the installation and own the power it makes from then on. But you need to have enough cash, or the ability to borrow enough, to pay that way.
- Q: I am looking at a need of roughly 30w/hour need per 24 hour period. I have spent several hours now looking for information online and have found plenty of info regarding the panels themselves, but information regarding the batteries backups have been slim. I understand that there is a 5-7 hour peak time to collect the energy. I am looking for information regarding the batteries themselves. How do the batteries work, what size batteries should I look for, and what is the life expectency for the batteries? Any website links would also be appreciated!
- Solar panels have their own characteristics and generate current depending on the intensity of sunlight falling on them and not on the temperature. Direction of the panel also makes lots of difference. Nowadays very thin panels are available at very high cost. The more area a panel occupies it generates more current. The current generated by a panel cannot be readily used since the current and voltage varies with the load connected to it. So normally a regulator is used to have constant voltage and constant current to come from the panel. This charges the battery. You have to calculate the total/normal current from the charger and then find the AH of the battery. When you have calculated the AH of the panel/charger then you can divide the AH of the battery by the AH of the charger/panel and find out the time taken to fully charge the battery. You also have to remember that there is a de-rating factor to be taken into consideration in the battery.
- Q: Are solar Panels worth it, Do they really quot;save moneyon electricity?
- Yes! They will save you money for a lifetime. Imagine not paying for electricity bills every month.
- Q: Can anyone give me some info on how to figure how many panels needed for a 0 volt 2 amp pool motor. Thanks/ Run 5 hours a day
- I don't think heating a 70,000 gallon pool with solar panels is practical. My husband has designed and built our solar hot water system. It works quite well. We live in Arizona. There's no way we could heat that much water using sun energy. You have to heat the water and compete with the outside air.
