- Q: I am confused. I am planning to build a simple 2Watt solar system to power some lights in my house. . I wonder if it is possible to power up a 2Watt bulb using 2Watt solar power?2. Normally, when we are reading the power rating of a bulb, we will read the wattage, so what about the voltage and current rating?3. If the current is insufficient, will the bulb light up?I am having a solar panel that can output 2W power but I am not sure about the output voltage, how can I find out about the current? - Unlikely - at least not a full brightness. You have to match voltages. If your panel is 2v at amp, it won't run a 20v bulb that runs at /0 amp. You're also going to lose power in the wiring and other components that means the 2w panel won't really deliver its full rating. And I'm also guessing that the 2w of the panel is only under full, bright sunlight, so any lessening of the light; clouds, haze, fog, dust, will lessen the power available.

- yes they are very recyclable, and you would actually be suprised at how much you get back from them just as materials, as there are still very valuable materials in them.... Often solar shops will accept them back for at a fraction of what you paid, as they can send them back to the manufacturer who then do all the material stripping in them and recycle all the materials there. Mainly depends what type of solar panels you have.... Most probably poly-chystalline or mono-chystalline. If they are that cool blue or black psychadelic looking panel also the manufacturing make that effect is also costly so they would probably look to buying that as well.. I would ask a solar shop where it can be done as the silicon in them are still a very prescious substance..... I would definatly not throw them out or pull them apart just yet

- There are two basic types of solar panels. ) Thermal absorbers 2) Photovoltaics Thermal absorbers are black in order to convert sunlight to thermal (heat) energy. The whole idea is to capture all of the light with a dark surface, convert it to thermal energy and transfer the energy into your home for water heating or space heating. If you make the surface white or reflective, then the surface will absorb only a small fraction of the available light, hence the efficiency will be very low. In other words, the panel will not produce any heat. Photovoltaic panels produce electricity instead of heat energy. Photovoltaic panels are made from thin slices (“waffers”) of silicon with special coatings on the front and back surface. One of these coatings on the front is an antireflection coating to capture the light and channel it toward the silicon. Underneath the antireflection coating the silicon waffer is coated with other chemicals that convert the sunlight to electricity. The combination of these coatings gives the panel a dark color, usually blue or black. Here's the bottom line. If you want thermal heat or electricity from solar panels, the panels have to capture the light. When that light is captured, the surface appears dark because no light (or very little) light is reflected back to our eyes. It is not possible for a surface to be an efficient absorber, capturing all available light, and at the same time appear white or bright color or reflective to our eyes.

- PV Solar panels all work the same. There aren't any climate specific ones. There is enough sun in San Francisco to produce energy using solar panels however, the the same panels located in a sunnier area will produce more energy. Depending on the size of your system, you will probably need a few more panels than an area that receives more sun to produce the same amount of energy. But they will still produce energy, even on overcast days. The solar installers will make all the calculations to determine what size system you will need to produce as much energy as you want. In California, you don't want to produce more than you consume in a 2 month period because currently, you are not able to sell your excess credits back to PGE after your 2 month cycle. Your system will cost more to produce the same amount of power than my system because I have less overcast days than you do. You will have to make the decision if the cost is worth your while. I expect my system to be totally paid for in around 8-9 years, working in the cost of inflation for electricity. After that, I will be paying nothing for electricty for as long as I stay in my house.
