- Q: Where can I find updated info about solar panels for home?
- Of the practical technologies, crystalline silicon is still king. There have been improvements in manufacturing efficiency and price, but the fundamental technology is unchanged. For the past couple decades, there have been startups claiming that they will have a breakthrough available in 2 years, but so far, nothing has beat crystalline silicon for general applications. The appeal of thin-film was its cost, at the penalty of efficiency, but when the prices of crystalline plummeted, the cost argument went away. That wasn't the only problem Solyndra had, but it contributed to the company's demise. Organic solar cells show promise, and might ultimately be very cheap to manufacture, as they don't involve the high-temperature processing that semiconductors do. The main problem today is that they're not stable at the temperature of a hot roof. But then again, a few years ago, organic LEDs were the same way, and now they're commonplace in big TV's. Only time will tell. From a homeowner's standpoint, the install is routine, but still best done by professionals. It's like putting a new roof on a house, or wiring in central air conditioning. For most, it's better to call a pro.
- Q: The Physics club in our school is trying to convince the Board of Ed to install solar panels in our school, and i was just wondering if anyone with some experience or real expertise in solar energy. I need some points about their usefulness some real pros and cons on maintenance, etc. Anything will help. Personally i would be perfectly for the idea, but i heard that the overall cost of installing them is much higher than the cost of the energy saved and government subsidies, but ive only heard about this.

- Q: I need to find a way to clean solar panels that automated, at best;A way beside using a large 'squeegee'
- Hire Tinkerbell, Disney hasn't had much for her to do lately.
- Q: So lets say that Everyday I use ,280 kWh. How many 250 watt solar panels would I buy so that I don't need to buy electricity anymore. Sorry if this sounds stupid, I am doing research on why american homes should become more cost efficient.
- Everyday I use ,280 kWh 280 kW-hour / 24 hours = 470 kW WOW, that is a very high power level, most homes use an average of .2 kW. My guess is that you mean you use 280 kW-hour in a year, which comes to an average power of .3 kW, typical. Assuming you get, worse case, 6 hours of sun per day, for the first case, 470 kW, each solar panel generates the equivalent of 250 x6/24 = 60 watts, so you would need 470k/60 = 8000 panels For the second case, .3 kw or 300 watts, divided by 60 that is about 20 panels. Depending on where you live, you could need as much as twice that number. Plus you need charge controller, lots of expensive batteries, and an inverter. The big problem is periods of no sun. If you demand continuous power, and you have a period of, say, 24 hours with no sun because of storms, etc, then the number of batteries increases to the hundreds.
- Q: Can solar panels be used to power an air conditioning system?
- Yes, solar panels can be used to power an air conditioning system. Solar panels generate electricity from sunlight, which can be used to run various electrical appliances, including air conditioning units. By harnessing solar energy, it is possible to power an air conditioning system without relying on traditional power sources, leading to energy savings and reduced carbon emissions.
- Q: Can solar panels increase the value of commercial properties?
- Yes, solar panels can increase the value of commercial properties. Installing solar panels can lower operating costs by reducing electricity bills and often generate additional income through selling excess energy back to the grid. This can make the property more attractive to potential buyers or tenants and result in higher property values. Additionally, solar panels are seen as a sustainable and environmentally-friendly investment, which can further enhance the property's value in today's eco-conscious market.
- Q: How do solar panels affect roof maintenance?
- Solar panels can actually help extend the lifespan of a roof by providing an additional layer of protection from the elements. They act as a shield, preventing direct exposure of the roof to rain, snow, and hail. However, regular maintenance is still necessary to ensure the panels are clean and functioning optimally, as any debris buildup or damage to the panels could indirectly affect the roof.
- Q: Can solar panels be used to power a cruise ship?
- Yes, solar panels can be used to power a cruise ship, but it may not be the sole source of power due to the large energy demands of a cruise ship. However, solar panels can contribute to the overall energy supply of a cruise ship, reducing its reliance on fossil fuels and decreasing its environmental impact.
- Q: i am very much interested in making a solar panel, my problem is where i can acquire the main components in order to build it, i am staying here in abu dhabi UAE i'm always searching on the internet for shops that can provide me a DIY kit but i did not find one, i need somebody who knows where i can get these things, please let me know.

- Q: What sort of maintenance is required for solar panels....?
- All panels should be cleaned to function best. Brush or wash off dirt and leaves. They should be checked for structural integrity and lack of rust. Solar Thermal panels should be checked for signs of leaks and/or discharge from pressure relief valves. Solar Photovoltaic should be checked for electrical function and grounding.
