Q: I read on CNN's website last year some company was creating a very cheap type of solar panel, that needs minimal maintenance and and has minimal glare from the sun. And the creator of the project said he one day wanted to cover every rooftop in the US with these solar panels. Seems like a good idea to me but I havent heared anything of it for a long time and I don't know what they are called... any help?
The most cost-effective solution, which the vast majority of new installs use today, is solar alongside the regular power company. That way, you need no batteries, and if the solar array isn't producing enough at any given time, you draw from the electric company. When the array is producing more than you need, instead of just throwing that power away, the power company buys it (usually). In short, yes, you will still have an electric bill, but a smaller one. On our house, the electric bill was a little less than $5 a month, with an end-of-year settlement of an additional $2. How much does it cost? Unfortunately, that's like asking how much personal transportation costs. Some people need a van to transport the kids to soccer, some may get by with a motorcycle, others may need only a bicycle. The best thing is to contact a professional installer to get a quote based on your location and electrical usage. Solar electric does not make financial sense in all areas. Our array cost $2,000 but don't use that as a guide. Yours might be 0 times that, or half that, depending on your area and needs.
Q: Can solar panels be used in remote areas?
Yes, solar panels can be used in remote areas. Solar panels can harness energy from the sun to generate electricity, making them a suitable and sustainable option in areas where access to grid electricity is limited or nonexistent. Their ability to operate independently of traditional power sources makes solar panels a practical choice in remote locations, providing clean and reliable energy for various applications.
Q: I have the wattage of solar panel but i dont know about the voltage amp; current rating of it. Plz explain me about the voltage rating of solar panel.
The voltage rating and current rating are part of the specifications for the panel. You will have them listed on the spec sheet. The voltage number is usually the open circuit voltage of the panel, the voltage with no load. The current number is the short circuit current of the panel. In use, you need special electronics, called a Maximum Power Tracker (MPT) controller, which adjust the load to get the most power from the panel, and adjust the voltage output via a DC-DC converter to the optimal conditions to charge the attached battery. how to take batteries as per solar wattage ? sorry, don't understand this.
Q: Im fourteen and looking for a career I already know solar panels capture the sun and turn it into energy but i would like to know more.
light from the sun hits the atoms and excites the electrons. This knocks the electrons out of the atom and then the electrons travel in a certain direction. This is the basics of electricity... flowing electrons. And so there's your direct current. I'm sure you could find out more by googling how do solar panels work
Q: Any opinion on harbor freight solar panels ?
Yes -- don't buy them. They are low quality solar panels, and the e-z kit they sell produces barely enough power for a lightbulb. The kit they commonly sell is a good child's science fair experiment/project, but do not expect to get your money's worth in solar power. If you are attempting to self-teach yourself on solar panels, this might be a good starting point, if not also a little expensive. But again, do not purchase Harbor Freight solar panels, or their e-z kit. If you are serious about getting into solar panels, there are distributors who will gladly talk to you about what kind of solar panels you will need for a regular house (hint: it is actually a pretty big set of solar panels for even a low power usage home).
Q: I would like a list of the solar companies expanding or doing hiring or a good list in general. I know some are expanding. Best answer gets all the points

Q: Hello everybody, the area we are living has energy crises with no electricity available most of the time. What I am thinking is to buy a solar panel with other required accessories. Please note we have normally long sunny days most of the time during a year. Please advice installing solar energy system would supply energy 24/7? I have a television, a dvd player, a fan, 4 energy saver lights (2 watt each) and a laptop. Please also advice the specifications for the system to be installed and the points I need to ensure at the time of purchase. I think of buying a solid battery (not acidic battery)The forum is open for your kind suggestions. Thanks!
Unfortunately solar panels aren't very cheap, and to power as much as you would like, you'll need quite a few. Aside from that, they aren't the most dependable, and maintenance is pretty expensive. If there is a relatively continuous breeze in your area, you may want to look into residential wind turbines. They will provide electricity 24/7, and the small ones don't require very much maintenance. You won't need as many turbines as you would solar panels either because they provide a pretty decent amount of power. Hope this helps!!
Q: Need solar panel info with dimensions and also the total cost of the whole equipment for setting up of the required solar panels for a 2-story home
There are many, upon many variations of equipment needed for a complete solar home. I would call several contractors in your area that deals with it and get estimates. You have to look at what your wattage diet is at your home. How many watts are you using for your AC and heat. Which can vary by age, efficiency, insulation of home, etc. Look at your electric bill for a normal summer month and a normal winter month, then estimate your heating and cooling (Sometimes can be as much as 70% of the bill). You will see on your bill your toal kilowatt hours. ( Kilowat = 000 Watts) Solar systems can start as low as $2.00/watt, but can rapidly approach $20.00/watt depending on the difficulty of application etc.... Here is the great thing, in many areas of the country there may be rebates from the county or state. And what you don't use can be fed back into the grid, and you get paid for it. But as always - Call a quailified contractor and get the right system for your home.
Q: Why is it nessicary, with today's economy in the postion it's currently in, to use renewable energy sources; like solar panels?

Anatomy of a Solar Cell 5. Energy Loss in a Solar Cell 6. Solar-powering a House 7. Solving Solar-power Issues 8. Solar-power Pros and Cons 9. Lots More Information 0. See all Physical Science articles You've probably seen calculators that have solar cells -- calculators that never need batteries, and in some cases don't even have an off button. As long as you have enough light, they seem to work forever. You may have seen larger solar panels -- on emergency road signs or call boxes, on buoys, even in parking lots to power lights. Although these larger panels aren't as common as solar powered calculators, they're out there, and not that hard to spot if you know where to look. There are solar cell arrays on satellites, where they are used to power the electrical systems. You have probably also been hearing about the solar revolution for the last 20 years -- the idea that one day we will all use free electricity from the sun. This is a seductive promise: On a bright, sunny day, the sun shines approximately ,000 watts of energy per square meter of the planet's surface, and if we could collect all of that energy we could easily power our homes and offices for free.
Q: I am doing a big project for school, and I have decided to do it on solar panels. I am new to the subject but have done some research on it; I would like to buy a single panel, a charge controller, an inverter and a battery, to charge a simple lamp. My question is if the items in the links will work together and if the panel will produce electricity?
Sounds like fun. A -watt panel doesn't need a charge controller, though. In fact, it may take more than watt to power the charge controller. With a low-wattage panel, you can just connect the panel directly to the battery. A 7 amp-hour gel cell (the kind used in burglar alarms) would be good for this purpose. The panel is too small to charge a car battery. The gel cell should power that inverter, but only for a few minutes. If you want to be more impressive, look for a low power, 2-volt device. An iPod plus a 2-volt car adapter would be an example.
