Q: In terms of efficiency and cost, what is the best solar panel. I am limited in the number of panels I can put up (probably 6-8) so they must be efficient, but cost is important also. What about these panels that can collect a wider range of light frequency?
You have to decide which is more important to you, cost or efficiency. The most efficient solar panels that are commercially available cost more than twice as much per square foot than the cheapest ones. Ultimately, I believe that the cost per watt was actually better on the cheaper, least efficient panels, but then you need a lot of square footage in order to generate any substantial power. So it comes down to what you have more of, space or money. The new panels that collect a wider range of light are not currently available commercially, and when they are I am sure that they will be expensive. I have read the research but have not heard of anyone mass producing them yet.
Q: My house uses 500 kw a month, air conditioning is the main consumer, is it possible to install solar panels in my roof to produce this amount, and aproximate cost, thanks .
There okorder / Why pay thousands of dollars for solar energy ($27,000 average cost) when you can build your own solar panel system for just a fraction of the retail cost. You can build a single solar panel or you can build an entire array of panels to power your whole house. Some people are saving 50% on their power bill, some people are reducing their bill to nothing. But what’s most impressive is that just by following these instructions some are even making the power company pay them!
Q: Can solar panels be used on agricultural land?
Yes, solar panels can be used on agricultural land. In fact, utilizing solar panels on agricultural land has become increasingly popular as it provides dual benefits of generating clean energy while not interfering with the farming activities. This practice, known as agrivoltaics or dual-use farming, allows farmers to continue cultivating crops or raising livestock under the shade of solar panels, maximizing land use efficiency and diversifying income sources.
Q: I recently bought a house with very old solar panels (about 25 years old) that don't appear to work properly. They are supposed to heat the hot water heater but they don't always work, and recently have staretd leaking. So, I have had them turned off and now we're just using electricity to heat the hot water. My question is, is there any tax credit money (stimulus or otherwise) available for people to (a) repair old solar panels or (b) replace them with new ones? How does the credit work?
If you buy NEW solar panels, there is a credit. see the 040 icon at www.okorder
Q: i would like to hook up a power outlet to a solar panelmy light system is 500watts will run for 8 hours/day between noon to 8PM.So what is the most effective system do I need?
How critical is the power, and is it only lighting? If it's only lighting what the other person suggested about a SunTunnel is the best solution. Not only is it less than /0 the cost, it will be 00x as efficient. If you think about it, it's kind of silly to turn the sun's light into electricity, throwing away 80%+ of the energy in the process, then turn that back into light again, throwing away 95% of that energy in the process. Much better to just use the light directly. Or cut some ordinary skylights or windows. If you are intent on solar electricity, it would be better to install a grid-tied system, and offset the electricity from your building in general, rather than try to build a dedicated outlet for the lights. Call a professional solar installer for a free quote.
Q: i need to make a mini-solar car which shouldn't cost much. it's for my science project. for now, i just found out how to make a solar panel using copper oxide, but it does not generate enough power to power up the engine of the toy car [ the small engine they used in the toys, like from TAMIA]
Have okorder . This will absolutely save yourself!
Q: Maximum size of solar panel i have to use is - 8 * 5 feet - this is the limitation given to us.
As in the reply to the other version of your question - you should be able to get that wattage much of the time during full daylight from the area you specify, but your location, weather, and ability to mount the panel(s) at the best angle to the sun at time you most need the energy (winter? summer?) Instead of going with guess work on the efficiency of the panels you are considering, the people who want to sell you panels (or their website) should be able to tell you from the angle of your mount (roof?) and location, etc., an estimate of the average and maximum power available and the kWH during various seasons. This has to be known for either buying the batteries for storage or knowing the economics of feeding back into the grid, depending on the method used.
Q: What is the impact of bird droppings on solar panels?
Bird droppings can have a negative impact on solar panels as they can reduce the efficiency of the panels by blocking sunlight. The droppings can create shadows and reduce the amount of sunlight that reaches the panels, leading to decreased energy production. Additionally, the acidic nature of bird droppings can damage the surface of the panels if not cleaned regularly, potentially reducing their lifespan. Therefore, it is important to regularly clean and maintain solar panels to ensure optimal performance and longevity.
Q: what is the average cost, for a single family home, to install solar panels? I live in CA.
Although its costs have been going down a little, solar power is still pretty expensive. To power a home you are looking at at between $8000 to $20,000 dollars (it will eventually pay for itself). There are systems that tie into the existing local power supply so that you have the city's power for back up (note: most power companies will buy electricty from you if you make more than you use). Then, of course, there are stand alone systems that operate without anyother power source (these are best for use in a place where electric lines aren't available or practical).
Q: Our school is in the process of being built, but they have no plans to include any environmental benefits. I was wondering how to get a grant for solar panels (at least) or who I can talk to in order to get a grant.
Excessively long payback schemes for solar panels are being quoted. It depends on where you live, where you situate your solar panels, what you buy and if you get a grant or install them yourself. Much of the cost of Solar panels is in the installation. Any competent DIY person can install a simple solar panel system. Ours cost less than ?000 to buy and self install. What are you calling payback time? Because each time I don't use fossil fuels and use solar energy instead, I don't get a 'fossil fuel' bill. Whilst we still use some electricity for running a fridge, lighting etc we have no other fuel bills, no gas, no oil, no electric heating no electrically heated hot water. We have woodburning stoves (which run on free wood) and solar. Remember you are not just paying for the electricity/gas/oil etc that you use, you are also paying standing charges, VAT etc. Include those in your 'payback time figures' and you will see a very different picture. How long would it take you to pay back ?,000 if you only had one tiny electric bill each quarter?
