Q:Just wanted to know.: There are many many different kinds of plastic, all with different properties, and are all manufactured differently. Just compare a coffee cup with the case of your PC for two different examples. The reference lists 22 commonly used plastics, with details on each such as manufacturer and use. Many many pages. Polyethylene terephthalate is one of the handful of plastics used for drink containers. Polycarbonate is used for windows. .

Q:We live in an old, very poorly insulated house, and it's very drafty/cold during the winter. We've tried two-sided insulating tape that you put in the window sills, caulk strips that you put around the frame, etc. and none of it works. Is it worth the money to buy the plastic that you can put over the outside of your windows? The draft seems to be coming from where the window itself meets the sill, but also around the perimeter of the window (where the edging/molding is attached to the wall). I've read a few articles online about quot;how toquot; install plastic, but they all say that the plastic comes in kits and you need to attach it with the included double sided tape to your wooden window frame. our house is brick and there's not much of a frame outside. What little wood there is has been painted over many times, and I doubt tape would stick to it. Should I try to do it anyway? Is it worth the cost?: You can caulk around the windows first. That should have been done at instalation. If you need to, you can use 100% silicone to adhear the plastic to plastic and it is easily removed in the spring. Do a test section and let it cure for 48 hours and see how it holds and removes. I never did it but I do alot of caulking. If you dont seal the draft, no matter what you do, it will eventually blow off.

Q:Every fall we put plastic on the outside of our windows to provide added insulation during the winter. The plastice we use is said to be clear but isnt. It always ends up that we cant see out the windows all winter. It really sucks. Does anyone know of an insulating plastic that is trully clear and will allow us to actually see out the windows?: Use pure clear garbage bags and double sided tape on the inside of the windows, only cut out the center part of the bag or sheet, and tape the loose part down what it will look like is a picture frame, leaving you your window to look out but smaller. The part that leaks around a window is the frame and where the glass meets the frame,

Q:Can you get an electrick sock when you slum the door of your car and touching the rubber/plastic where the window holds on to? isn't plastic an islulator?: Yeah plastic is an insulator but In this case it store potential charge in to it, when a conductor comes in contact (you) then it releases the charge (as the charge flows from high potential to low). So it can give a shock. It is very obvious to ask where from this charge get into the Plastic?? Have you ever rubbed your plastic scale and then take it closer to paper bids? (it is weired, isn't it? ;) ) If not then do it right now. the plastic scale attracts the paper bids because it has got some potential due to RUBBING. Q:Will covering the windows with thick painters plastic drastically help the window A/C unit cool the house down?Also, should i insulate the floor?: You can buy solar reflective film of amazon to stick to your windows to reflect some sunlight however this can be quite difficult to apply. If its humid trying buying a dehumidifier- takes the moisture out of the air which helps to make conditions more comfortable. Insulating the floor wouldn't be that beneficial as most, you want to reduce insulation in your loft and upper rooms! Hot air rises, so don't trap it!

Q:Have very little budget to work with, paid Marshall Construction of Kalamazoo to do the roof, haven't seen him since (Even with the contract), windows are in really poor condition and need to be replaced but don't have the funds to do it (Lost job like everyone else in Michigan). I have almost a zero budget to do this thanks to people like Marshall construction. Any suggestions how to get this 900 sqft home to stay warm without the furnace always working?: Plastic on the windows will help a little, especially if you can keep at least a couple inches between the glass and the plastic. If you do not have carpeting, put down some rugs. Check your furnace filter, make sure it is clean. Also if the construction company left you hanging, take them to court, you may be limited to the amount you can recover in small claims, but it also might push them into doing the work.
