UPVC/PVC is good performance for sound and heat insulation.

Q:I would like to completely remove it off of the car without removing the whole top? (The zipper broke): I removed mine with a razor knife, just be careful not to cut your fingers..

Q:does tapeing plastic over windows help very much in winter?: It does help somewhat. When you seal a window like that, you're creating an area of dead air (non-circulating) which does help slow down heat transfer. It's like the pockets of air in an insulated jacket or in fiberglass insulation. It also seals up any gaps and leaks in the window itself. I find that to really reduce the heat loss through a window, I use plastic on the inside and the outside and use a heavy material as a curtain. Between the three, I don't feel the chill from around the windows. @Boy Boy - That's what my Central Heating system is designed to do. It has an air-exchanger that trades the stale inside air with the outside air AND has a heat exchanger to take the heat from the air going out to pre-warm the heat coming in to the house. Even without that, homes leak enough air to not develop mold. We're not talking making a hermetic seal here. Every time the doors open you get a significant air exchange. And that's not even mentioning all the office and commercial buildings that do not have windows that open. They have sealed, double and sometimes triple pane windows filled with inert gases. They don't get mold. Mold in the winter develops on areas where condensation on the walls forms. And if you have condensation forming in the house on an exterior wall, then there is usually a lack or a failure of the insulation in that area that needs to be addressed. Before you call someone an idiot, make sure that they're actually doing something idiotic.

Q:I saw an online video that we can go to our local home depot etc and buy kits where we use a blow drying and put plastic on the inside of our windows. How much does this really help in saving on energy costs for those of you who know this kind of stuff. I am on a very limited budget, so I am looking at those,: Couldn't have afforded winter in MI with out them! We lived in a 100 year old farm house, on a budget. We used plastic on all the windows and heated the whole house with the wood stove. The wood was free,(we cut and chopped it ourselves) and we only spent about 30 bucks on the plastic. Now that we live in NC, we still cover the windows, but we have electric heat now. I miss the wood stove!

Q:i bought two white window blinds and then when i got home, i realized the color doesn't go with the color of my wall. black blinds would suit my wall better. so what kind of paint should i buy to color over the plastic surface of the blinds? thank you!: you would have to remove each slat to paint them, as painting them in place will cause the string that moves the blinds back and forth from open to closed to stick to the slats and make the whole thing stop working. I don't know what you paid, but the best course of action would be to return the white ones and buy black. If they don't stock black, you can order them. Way simpler and way more feasible than painting the slats. Even if you had the patience to remove them, paint them and replace them, the chance of keeping the complex string harness in place during that process is pretty unlikely

Q:Can a 1992 convertible Mazda Miata plastic window be replaced with a later model glass one?: If you want a glass window in a Miata, it can be done. The thing is that a new top that is fitted with one is only a few dollars more then a complete top and fitting one into a top with a plastic window will require work most of us can not do or requiring us to pay some one else to do it. It is possible to put a new top on yourself (I have done it a few times myself) with out the purchase of many tools. So just replace the complete top and maybe look for one with a defroster built in the rear window. The defroster will require some wiring to be done but it is a nice addition.

Q:how do u use hair dryer to put plastic on windows?: It is for taking the wrinkles out of the plastic so it is airtight. Just put it as hot as it can go and blow on the wrinkles in the plastic until you get all the wrinkles out. Good luck!

Q:I rent a townhouse that has very old windows.. LL will not replace them so im thinking of puttng plastic over the wndows.. we are not aloud to put plastic outside.,. Can anyone tell me..should it be thick plastic? should i staple it? or just tape? when i lay on my bed or couch i can feel the draft and the curtans move.. these wndows are terrible!! any help on the whole insulating thing would be great.. i hate having my heat on 78 just to be somewhat warm cause all the cold ar is still blowng in.. for some reason the heating vents are close to the wndows.. defeats the purpose if you ask me..: If you where one of my Dad's kids, this is exactly what he would tell you to do. Go To the Hardware Store ,get some Window Weatherproofing Clear Sheets. Those are made and supplied to the stores by Maclainberg Duncan,or MD company.You just put the clear sheets onto the glass and using a blow dryer,they shrink to make an exact fit. Very effective. Q:I have yucky shades on my windows dead bugs all around my windows. They are old windows so I bought an insulation kit to do the windows. It says I will need to blow dry.What if I don't want to touch the disgusting shades my landlord said be would replace when I moved in ? I am kind of stuck living here so until I can find a place a roommate, I want to seal the windows. shades completely. They have poor insulation a handful bugs come in every hour.Do you think the plastic will work without shrinking it with a blowdryer? There are slice webs around my window so I am disgusted.: I'm guessing your insulation kit is the type with double sided tape for the window facings. You don't have to use a blow dryer; that's only if you want the plastic real smooth and tight and looks good. The plastic should keep the pests out but you could bug spray first and then install the plastic.

Q:What exactly is this clear plastic window called and can I replace it? If so, where would I find the part? I can't seem to find it anywhere. Do I need to replace the entire cluster panel?: It is called the instrument cluster Bezel Lens. Get a bad instrument cluster out of a salvage yard with a good lens and figure out how to remove the lens without breaking the cluster. I did this for a rare BMW once, and I will tell you what I learned from the experience: After I unscrewed the back of the cluster, i had to go around the plastic housing sealed joint with a utility knife and carefully cut the two halves away from each other while running a screwdriver along to act as a wedge to apply a parting force. When I managed to to that, I found the lens was just sandwiched in between the two, so I was able to cut the new lens piece into the proper size and shape to match the old one. The new on came from another instrument cluster which had a larger lens, but the same thickness and same plexiglass material. I fitted it into place, and glued the two halves back together with super glue, and re-installed the back panel, and it was good to go.

Q:..The cardboard part is recyclable, the twist ties are reusable, wrapping paper and ribbon have reuse or recyclable value. I can't think of what to do with the plastic part.: In my own ways, I've recycled this before. It's not worth much, but I model railroad, and to be honest that acetate that we use for small windows is bloody expensive. So I use the plastic windows and then paint my sashes on them, add details, cut out what I need, and use them with my model work. You'd be shocked how much money that saves, and since my models won't get tossed out, it's not ending up in a landfill.
