- Q: What are the different grades available for plastic sheets?
- There are various grades available for plastic sheets, including general-purpose grades, high-impact grades, high-temperature grades, food-grade grades, and UV-resistant grades. - The best cover would be as the one described but with a black underside which would absorb the sunlight converting it to hat which would be transferred to the water. The air bubbles do 2 things, They make the cover float and they act as a heat insulating layer preventing the heat of the water escaping. Their efficacy as a lens is doubtful.
- Q: I have a 30 gallon plastic bucket that I cut a large square out of it and I have molded the acrylic sheet to the right shape, but is there anyway I can bond the acrylic to the plastic? - All the plastic buckets I've seen so far are from PA, PP or PE - plastics chosen for their chemical inertness, which in turn also means that they're d*mn near impossible to glue (pretreatment with hot concentrated nitric acid is among the more accessible methods....). As is acrylic, btw. You might be able to weld them (chemically or thermally), but I wouldn't trust this weld if I did it for the life of the fish. If the overlapping area is large enough and the acrylic sheet goes on the inside of the bucket (so that the water pressure actually compresses the seam), you might try fish tank silicone. It won't really glue the parts together, but might stick well enough (probably until someone tries to poke it :-( ). But I doubt that you'll get that stuff in oe of the big box stores - ordinary builder's silicone or bathroom silicone are no good - they'll leach acetic acid and, in case of bathroom silicone, fungicides.

- A 10' roll of black visqueen plastic sheeting from Home Depot is not very expensive. It would be cheaper than garbage bags and a lot less hassle to hang up. I would warn you, though -- a lot of plastic sheeting is flammable so DON'T drape it around your party if you expect to have any candles or if people will be smoking -- you could have a dangerous, even deadly, fire. One cheap item I've found makes an indoor room dancy is the goofy-looking UDO (unidentified disco object) light show ball from Spencer's gifts. It's only $20 and rotates a multi-colored light show all over the room. I bought one as a joke for a Woodstock 40th anniversary party last summer and it turned out to be a huge hit. People were really self-conscious about dancing, even though I burned a great tune line-up. But once I shut off the lights and cranked up the UDO everybody hit the dance floor and I couldn't get them to stop until I turned it off. Best 20 bucks I ever spent for a party.
- Q: I found the perfect thickness of plastic Delrin in my garage but it's already shaped in an exact circle. The Diameter is 4 inches which is fine because I need 3.89 inch diameter in the pieces I'm cutting. I have approx. 75.3 inches of length of the delrin. Each of the pieces is really thin that I'm creating a mear .03125 inches. I need 324 pieces and a couple to spare wouldn't hurt. Does anyone know how to calculate this or is there a calculator that does this?
- Confusing question, but I think I understand what you need. There are yield calculators out there on the internet, but I will do the math for you. You would get 327 pieces of 4 diameter discs that are .03125 thick. The reason it wouldn't be more is that the saw blade will eat up material in between each cut (about .2 per cut) Just so you know, this job will be VERY difficult to do, so make sure you have proper machinery or take it to a professional. Good luck!
- Q: We are using this for a slip and slide at a camp and need some plastic that is sturdy and will withstand many kids going down it. 6 mil is the minimum, but 8 to 10 mil is prefered and it needs to be about 40 ft x 100 ft. We'd prefer no black, as it will be super hot in the sun. I have already called a few local farm stores, Lowes, and Home Depot. Are there any places that I may have forgotten?
- Well I dont know where you live, but where I work, we get it from piedmont plastics. Go see some industrial distributors like Kinecor or Motion Canada. (go for Kinecor, thats where i work.)
