- The answer is indeed yes, the type you refer to is actually ancient technology. The key lock you refer to was around before and a precursor to the dead bolt lock if you look at it from a side view you will see the locking peg, the part that goes into the frame of the door, is cut on an angle just like the one on the door knob so that when the door closes it slips the mechanism back and then a spring engages it forcing into place and thereby locking it. - If you are trying to fix a leak in copper water pipes, (say they froze and split, or leaking at bad solder joint, etc) the best thing to do cut out the bad part and re-solder new pipe/fittings as necessary. If it is just one tiny pin-hole and it is in a place where it would be really hard to re-solder, they do have these metal clamp-like cuff things that mash a piece of rubber sheeting over the hole.

- No, under pressurization will not hurt the tubing at all. Overpressuration and water hammer ( the rattling you hear when you close the valve too fast ) will harm it, the tubing comes in several wall thicknesses, but the tubing that is used as a standard will sustain a pressure of over 600 PSI, the weakness is in how well the joints were assembled by the plumber that did the piping, and the age of the material, everything that will rust or oxidize will weaken over time. Not to worry the copper will outlast the building.
