Underground irrigation could also be used to try to encourage deeper roots. Don't water the top part of the plant, only the soil/roots. Water an inch past the furthest root/branch, not just by the stem/trunk. Use rain water for irrigation. Don't let sticks/leaves in rain barrel. Consider plastic tube drip irrigation with automatic timer and rain sensor solar powered. keeping soil covered with mulch, chopped dead/fallen leaves, untreated organic non-toxic non-moldy wood chips(not walnut wood because its toxic to some plants), hay, dead grass, moss, or low-growing ground cover/cover crop(ex:herniaria glabra green carpet rupturewort) helps keep moisture in soil, and help prevent weeds. dont put mulch against the trunk, it damages the plant. - If you are fighting it yourself always disconnect power first, then use a water fog/spray to put the fire out. Once the power is disconnected all that is burning is the plastic which leaves an ash so it is a class A fire after the power is off. If the power is still on it is a class C or electrical fire. Water is a last resort for electrical fires though, use proper extinguishers or smothering devices first, regular blankets are a bad idea you may well set them on fire then spread the fire further, if you have one use a fire blanket but most people don't have them as they are not common here in the states. Technically in todays age call 911 then do the above steps.

Even the plants, the filters, and the tropical fish will be glad to see them go. Typical filtration for a tropical fish tank will have been maxed out by that time. The plants will at first appreciate the generous fertilizers the goldfish provide, but then there will be a backlog of it. Too much of a good thing does not sound quite right when we are talking about goldfish poop, but if you look at it from the plant's perspective, it does fit. and it may be subjective, but it seems like the angelfish, the kribensis, the red lizard catfish and others seem to be getting impatient with the tourists hanging around past the season. The goldfish definitely need to go back to their own kind of tank, food, and temperatures. Fish foods low or without fish meal,and perhaps high in wheat germ will help keep their digestive systems on track. They will also appreciate the absence of gravel, and the feedings of duckweed, Najas, hair algae, and live daphnia that you raise for them. You probably wouldn't want to add the first three to your tropical tank, and if you add daphnia the tropicals would likely be first in line and deprive the goldfish of more than a sample.
