Here is an example of how to realistically see if you can make money: If you sell 3 houses in 1 year that average $300,000.00 each with a 6% commission, you would make $13,500 before taxes (on those 3 total). You would receive 1/2 of 3%. This is because a real estate agency may take half of your commission (but not all do, so chose wisely). Also you have to pay yearly fees and MLS fees to hold your license. Try to remember that the market is tough right now and you may have to bust you *** a bit to sell a home. Take some rel estate classes. Complete and pass the tests, get some experience, maybe work for someone else for a while, so you can get some experience and possibly learn more of the pros and cons. We are in a recession in my city and real estate is the worse field for anyone. More and more ppl are having a lot of fore-closures on homes, and real estate the worse field right now. Hopefully the city where you live in is more in the demand for a broker. Talk to some of the people who are already successful in your field. Take the broker license exam and once you pass, your all set. I heard it only takes about 6 - 8 weeks less. check to see possibly on line which one in your state is the fastest, some of them even have on line classes just as good. Good Luck.
Q: My parents own a house in a small subdivision and behind the house is a large area of undeveloped land that hasn't been taken care of for decades. I assume it is owned by a local real estate company, but not entirely sure. My parents cleared out all the kudzu that was creeping into their yard and made a space that goes about five feet out along the length of the fence. They recently started planting some vegetables in this area since its not in use and it seems whoever owns it has no plans to do anything with it but I am concerned they could get into some legal trouble if company who owns it finds out they have this small garden back there. So the question is, can my parents get into serious trouble with this?
No, your parents I'm sure understand the risk. To find out who owns that parcel all you need to do is check with the Property tax appraisal office for that county, it's public information. In most states and counties you will find this information on line.

You don't go to college to become a real estate agent. Depending where you're from, each state is different, you'll most likely have to become licensed to be a real estate agent. In Indiana, I know you have to have a license to list or sell someone elses property. What is your college major? If it's real estate, then you're wasting your time. Maybe you should call an agency you're interested in joining to find out more about the profession before you decide to make it your career.

Q: My pal Sally is thinking of buying a home. There is a home she likes but she does not know if she can afford the house. Today she is meeting with a real estate broker where she will discuss financing and lending for loans for the house she wants to buy. I do no think she should take their word alone that she should also talk to to a lender as well and that it should be an independent lender not one that they suggest. The Broker claims that she has over 30 years of knowledge in helping people with loans and lending issues. My point to my friend was that just because she claims to have 30 years of knowledge does not me she actually knows what she is talking about when it come to leanding and loans issues. Also the broker she is meeting with and the house she likes are two diffrent comapanies .Am I being worried for nothing ?
You are correct to worry. Check out some local mortgage bankers (they loan their own money) and mortgage brokers (they loan someone else's money) to see who might be the best choice for Sally.
