Christian metal Christians who like metal, writing stuff which doesn't insult God. Dont know any bands. Death metal Slow groove metal. Deep growls and heavy basslines. My favourite band- Six Feet Under Doom metal Fast, hard metal, low and high sound pitches. - Job For a Cowboy Drone metal Never heard of this before. Extreme metal Hard fast metal, heavy drumlines. Can't think of any bands. Folk metal Bit old school rock 'n roll. Glam metal No Idea. Gothic metal Bit like black metal, slow and dark with lot of satanic worshipping, however not many grunts. - Epica Groove metal Bit like death metal. Slow, low grunts. - Six Feet Under. - The term nu-metal was, as someone else mentioned, a term conjured up by the media in order to help popularize the sales of metal albums. In reality, nu-metal is (or rather, was) properly known as aggro rock. It does have elements of metal, but that's mixed in with countless other influences, which can include genres like grunge, alternative, hip-hop, punk/hardcore, post-punk/post-hardcore, etc. It's pretty much a cesspool of genres, and metal only makes up a small portion of it. So yes, metal influences do exist within the genre; they are just not dominant.

- Here be my favorite death metal bands, although only one or two of them are melodic: Gorguts, Atheist, Death, Necrophagist, Immolation, Opeth, Bloodbath, Pestilence, Morbid Angel, Obituary, Vader, Suffocation, Nile, Quo Vadis, Cryptopsy, Dismember, and Incantation.

- No. Metal has a bunch of genres because there are many bands that sound very stylistically different from each other. Nu metal isn't metal either. Just because something happens to have metal influences does not make it metal. Crust punk and Grindcore are very close to metal, but are subgenres genres of punk. Same goes for a lot of metalcore and deathcore. Some are more influenced by metal than others. Austrian Death Machine sounds way different than BFMV. ADW has much more metal influences in it, hence making it metal. Does Power metal sound like Technical Death metal? Not at all. That's why there are subgenres. Subgenres also help you look for bands with similar styles.

- The NWOBHM was a movement, not a genre. Death metal and dark metal are unrelated. Dark metal, at least in my experience, usually refers to either a metal/dark ambient fusion, or metal with a very dark feel that isn't doom, death or black metal.
