Q: My son threw a rock at our front door and it made a hole through the exterior metal. (The hole doesnt go through the door, just to the inside material.) I need to fill the hole and then paint the door. What is the best material to fill/patch the hole with and then how should I treat the door and paint it?: I would buy a can of the foam that expands and fill the hole. If it expands out, let it dry thoroughly and cut it off. Then you can sand it, prime it and paint it. Word of warning - the remainder of foam in the can will not be used once the foam coagulates in the tube so fix as much stuff as you can once you start. On the bright side, this stuff isn't that expensive anymore so you won't be out much. Good luck.

Q: I have metal framed doors on 3 of my bedroom doors and 2 closet doors and I want to remove them and install a wooden framed door. How difficult would you rate this project for a newbie or someone who has only done minor construction work around the house??? There are 2 types of metal frames one is called a Knock down frame and is in 3 pieces. These are easy but if you don't see adjustment screws on the jamb face or seams in the corners you most likely have the solid frames. These are not easy. A reciprocating saw would come in handy! Cut the top plate loose from the sides and remove. There may be tabs on the bottom of each leg that screw into the sides of the studs. I'm hoping you have sheetrock walls or this is going to get ugly. Good luck Chris
