- Don't know about Gateway or Asus, but Toshiba is reliable and good quality. I have looked at Asus before, they seem pretty good, but I can't really tell you because I have never had an Asus.
- Q:I'm considering on purchasing a laptop cooling pad due to the overheating caused from rendering high bitrate video - which then causes the laptop to forcefully shut down. Will the cooling pad speed up the performance of my laptop?
- It might, but if the laptop is heating up to the point where it shuts off, probably not by much. The hardware in a laptop will throttle down to reduce heat when it reaches a certain a point, this will slow the system down, so your rendering takes longer than it would if the computer stayed cool. So if you added a cooling pad, while it would lower the temperature, it wouldn't lower it below the point where the CPU throttles. It should at least prevent the computer from shutting off, if you buy a good enough one. Really good ones hard to find though, they're much easier to build. If you use the cooling pad all the time, even when you're using the laptop for regular tasks like browsing the internet, then you might notice it running faster. In cases where the load isn't as high, I could see that feasibly able to keep the temperature below the throttle point.

- Er no. You laptop is a laptop and a router is a router. Each is built for a specific job. If you have a router, just connect the Ethernet cable to that and connect it to your Xbox. You shouldn't need to use the cable to connect the router to your laptop anyway if you have a wireless-enabled laptop.

- Sony Vaio is a good laptop to choose. I have had mine in the desert for a year while deployed, played games, and did documents, email, video editing, and music. 4 years old and still doing all of the above.
- Q:Can i Use a laptop cooler to stop overheating
- You shouldn't need the unnecessary expense of a laptop cooler if you do two basic things. First you must alway use your laptop on a firm surface so the vent positions don't become blocked by clothing, bed covers, or other soft materials. And secondly, you must perform regular cleaning maintenance on the laptop. Depending on the environment you laptop is used in, ( usually around the home ), if you have pets and kids that tend to play indoors, the laptop vents need to be cleaned using compressed air in a can, and/or vacuumed with a hand held vacuum that has a brush attachment that can get the dust loosened around the vents and down between the keys on the keyboard to get crumbs and dust from between the keys so it doesn't get under the keys and cause problems. The maintenance schedule may be every 3 or 4 months, every 6 months, etc., depending on the environment. If you do these two things, a cooler would likely be unnecessary. People who have purchased a laptop cooler tend to quit using it after awhile because they can be unhandy to use. A laptop can slide off of the cooler and get damaged.
