Q: Then why does light travel at the speed of light?
Actually, the deal is that nothing with any mass can travel at the speed of light. There are lots of things that travel at the speed of light like radio waves, which are actually just a specific electromagnetic/magnetic (em) wave. In fact, as an interesting note, sound traveling through an object (not air) like a table travels at the speed of light, and through air it only travels at the speed of sound. So if you were to knock on a really really long piece of wood, and someone were at the other end, they would hear the knock twice, once as it vibrates through the table, and then they would hear it again as it traveled through the air. PS. The reason only things without mass can travel at the speed of light is that it would require an infinite amount of energy to accelerate anything else to that speed. (Or so modern physics thinks) PPS. It is clear that some of the people answering this question should take a modern physics class as E=mc^2 frankly is unrelated to the issue at hand. E is the energy that would be yielded if an object with mass m were to be destroyed i.e. if it were to be converted into pure energy. (You can use it in the reverse way too, E is the energy required to make something with mass m.) But c is in fact the speed of light.
Q: Solar garden lights home how the price of the product
Wind energy and other new energy power generation lighting production enterprises.
Q: So... for a while I thought I had it all figured out. I decided that UV was within the visible spectrum, because florescent things glowed under black lights. I figured that they were all the same. But... they aren't. So now I'm completely confused. What is florescence, how does ultra violet light differ from the light emitted by black lights? Do both Ultra violet and blacklights make florescent things glow? I have a pretty good understanding about light, photons, and colors... but this is a rough spot. Shed some quot;lightquot; on the subject please.
Hi, a black light is producing a range of EMF which contains UV emissions, but also some high violet which you can see. When the UV light makes something fluoresce, you are not seeing the UV light reflected, but a lower wavelength of light which is emitted from the object. When the light energy hits the object it excites an electron and pops it to a higher energy level. When the electron pops back to it's stable state, multiple photons at different energies are released. So, you're not seeing the original UV light, but a by product of it, that's why only certain materials are fluorescent and to specific wavelengths of light.
Q: Light photography such as light trails, light art, etc. Wideangle or telephoto?
This would depend on the intensity of the light you're trying to capture in trails, how close you can position yourself to the action and how you want to compose your shot. Assuming the source isn't too faint then almost any lens will work as long as you use a suitable aperture setting and long enough shutter speed. With each lens it will take some experimentation at different camera settings to find the ideal recipe for producing the best light trail images.
Q: Darkness is not a seperate entity as light is the entity that can be measured. Because darkness is the absence of light. then light being a + of (something) and darkness being 0 that means that a - of (something) is actually the opposite of light?any opinions on this?
Yes, light moving backwards in time. Because time stops when you reach the speed of light, time is meaningless for photons, they can quite easily travel backwards in time. A photon, however, remains the same whether it is travelling forwards or backwards in time, this makes a photon it's own antiparticle. Therefore: light is the opposite of light.
Q: I thought everything that had particles had matter? But this is confusing of course light doesn't have matter. But I thought their was a theory that said light particles had matter. I'd like to hear more on it. Thanks.
light particle are not matter. they are made of photons, which are actually energy. this energy is what causes light, kinda like a light bulb.
Q: Hey, I'm doing a science demo in front of a bunch of sixth graders (I'm in 8th grade) and I am taking a mirror and then two tubes angled into the mirror- with a flash light shining into one. The reflection of the tube with the flash light is lined up exactly with the other tube. The light then shines out of the reflection and in and out of the second tube. It sounds really confusing but it's actually cool. So, my teacher says I need to explain how light travels in straight lines and light energy and stuff. So I need help! Thanks
light travels straight that`s the property of electromagnetic wave about the light energy it needs energy to travel
Q: Both fireworks and light bulbs give off light. But, why do fireworks and light bulbs give off different color light?
Because fireworks contains various chemicals that give off different colors of light when ignited. Because tungsten is heated in a vacuum using direct electricity, and doesn't involve an oxidation reaction (most if not all fireworks involve oxidation) it gives off white light.
Q: Why do the lights look like the twinkle at night?
I love this question. The stars are very bright but are so far away that they appear as infinitesimal points. This allows the movement of the air to refract the light causing the light of the star to move back and forth, this is the twinkle. Planets don't twinkle because they are near enough that they don't appear as small points. The light is spread out over a larger area (though still small due to their distance) so the light kinda averages out so small movements of air won't afffect the image hitting your too much. =)
Q: Its a 2004 Toyota Corolla. The maintenance required light is on...not the check engine light. Just wondering if it would pass emissions testing. thanks!!!
take your car to mechanic for tune-up and change oil, then reset the maintenance light.
