- Q: what's the difference between incandescent and flourescent lights?
- incandescent lights are the ones the tungstun filiment inside inside. IF your wanting to know the differences of one vs the other in the tank. incandescent bulbs are really no longer used in practicle fish keeping. They use more energy in the form of heat than light. Flourescents run much cooler, have a far more efficient light, both in energy to light conversion and the ability to maintain healthy live plants.
- Q: For a black light dance, I know that we need to keep the background black, But what does a black light mean....is that a neon light?and what colour? A
- A black light is actually a dark dark purple light that is a fluorescent I believe. Using magical spectrum garbage it cancels out dark things and pulls the light out of bright things, so skin looks darker orange but teeth glow a bright yellow/green. Be sure to wear something that wont show your dandruff or lint because it looks really mad obvious and ur self conscious all night.
- Q: How exaclty does a black light work
- I assume you are asking about how a black light source generates ultraviolet light. The principal is the same as for all flourescent lights. Ionized gas inside the bulb is excited by the current passing through it and it emits photons. Phosphorescent material inside the surface of the flourescent bulb is excited by the high energy photons striking from the inside. The photons push the electrons in the phosphor into higher orbits temporarily. These electrons subsequently emit photons at specific frequencies as they fall back into the orbits from which they came. The phosphor material is selected for the frequencies it produces. Hence the different colors or warmth of flourescent bulbs and in the case of black lights primarily ultraviolet and violet colors are produced. If you were asking about how the black light makes things glow, it is exactly the same principal of phosphorescence, but the other way around. The high energy photons from the ultraviolet lamp strike phosphors that are added to laundry detergent hat never quite rinses from your clothes. Those phosphors then glow in the blue-white range. The effect of the detergents is intentional and makes the clothes look brighter in the sun (which has ultraviolet in its spectrum) or under other bright lights.

- Incandescant lights are 5% efficient. Therefore 95% of the energy used is turned into heat. Flouresant lights are about 20% efficient. Therefore 80% of the energy used is turned into heat. LEDs can be as much as 40% efficient. So 60% of the energy is turned to heat. Moon lights are supposed to create light, simulating the light of the Moon. They're not terribly bright lights, so the total power used is low. The products i was able to find use LED lights. Chances are, the heat produced is minimal.
- Q: What kind of light is actually measured? Visible light is only one part of the family of light.
- Light is a form of electromagnetic radiation. Other forms include radio waves, x-rays, infra-red, ultra-violet, etc. All electromagnetic radiation travels at the speed of light (i.e., they all travel at the same speed) which in free space (i.e., vacuum) is usually denoted by the letter 'c' and has a value of roughly 3x10^8 meters per second. - Lights are nothing but moving photons,they are created due to de-excitation of electrons(or atoms) in a matter. Laser (Light Amplication by Stimulated Emission of Radiation) is emitted by Spontaneous Emission and Stimulated Emission in a lasing material.Therefore Laser is nothing but amplified light. - A filter doesnt actually filter out a specific color but filters out all other colors so if you pass it thru a green filter last you actually would have a green light.
